Your dog

Question Posted Tuesday January 2 2007, 7:57 am

I remember a few months ago that you got a dog and you said that it had this one disease and it passed away because of it. I was just wondering what the disease was and the symptoms. I am about to adopt a dog and I want to know about this disease, If it is rare or not etc. Thank you and I am sorry about your dog =(

I am so sorry it took me so long to write you back, I went a while without a computer. Well, I'm sure you already got a dog but just for the heck of it, I'll still fill ya' in on what is was that happened to my dog.

Parvo Virus:

Parvo virus is a viral disease of dogs. It affect's puppies much more frequently than adult dogs. The virus likes to grow in rapidly dividing cells. The intestinal lining has the biggest concentration of rapidly diving cell's in a puppy's body. The virus attacks and kills these cells, causing diarrhea (often bloody), depression and supression of white blood cells -- which come from another group of rapidly dividing cells. In very young puppies it can affect the heart muscle and lead to "sudden" death.
