About Mara
Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

Ohk i have a serious question.
And sorry its going to be kinda of long but i would really appreciate if you guys took the time to read this.
i Just watched True life the one about obessive Compulsive disorder. Well alot of the Things those People were doing kinda reminded myself of me. Like not what they would do like count and retouch things because it didnt feel right but heres some things i do.
Thourgh Out the day i make sure all the doors are locked all of them- i dont know why it just bothers me
-Before i go to bed i make sure the doors are locked and the closet on the first floor. When i go in my bedroom i check my closet and make sure my window is locked. Like two days ago i had to make sure my door was locked because i heard something out in the kitchen.
Im afraid of someone coming into my house and taking me. I watch alot of law and order and Csi.
But i dont think that would have any thing to do with it.
-im terrified of needles. When i go to get blood drawn or shots. I start to cry.
-When i see needles on the tv i have to cover my eyes or look the other way. My mom is diabetic and she has to use insulin with the needles i looking at her while she does it.
When i was little i had this dream of me and my friend getting kidnapped by a doctor and he shoved needles in us and i died.
-i Cant throw-up if i do by getting sick or something i won't eat nothing for like the next three days.
-At school with my lockers ill lock them and then check 5-6 times to make sure theres no way anyone can open the locker - I have had my purse stolen from me and my locker broke into before like 3 years ago.
-At work I have to sign off the register everytime i walk away form it. I constantly walk to make sure im off.
I dont really know if this could be ocd. or its just being a strange person. Im 17/f
Hi honey, believe it or not, I totally know what you are going through and no, you don't have OCD. What you have are Obsessive Compulsive symptoms which is a lack of serotonin and a little miscommunication between two parts of your brain, but not serious enough for you to be diagnosed with OCD. These symptoms will probably go away after a while or be an on and off thing for the rest of your life.
My symptoms are the same as yours (checking alarm clocks and doors, repeating by closing and opening windows et cetera) except I keep washing my hands whenever I touch something dirty (which to me just seems like common sense because nowadays, who can touch a door at the mall with coming into indirect contact with someone's genitals?).
People with OCD generally spend -all- their time checking, repeating, washing and doing other Obsessive Compulsive tasks. You don't seem to be quite there yet and you can go see a doctor but chances are that he'll tell you that you'll ahev to live with them for the time being because they only prescribe meds to people diagnosed with the disorder and there isn't enough known about OCD to help you out with your symptoms.
Don't worry about it too much. There's a little OCD in everyone.

I just read something that someone else posted that made me wonder if i had an ocd as well.
When it comes to brushing my teeth they never feel clean, therefore i brush my teeth at least 5 times a day. Even if i hadnt eaten anything i brush them just because. Am i a freak or is this an ocd?
p.s even though im brushing them constantly they're still a little yellow its nasty. ive tried teeth whitening products but they dont seem to work. should i get the professionally whitened? if so how much do they cost?
sorry its long :[
But i rate 5's :]
No, you're not obsessive compulsive. About 99.9% of the population have -some- symptoms of OCD. Like other anxiety disorders, OCD is caused by a lack of serotonin in the brain. So basically, your level of the disorder will depend on how much you're missing. If your levels of serotonin are a little above or below needed, you might be a little Obsessive Compulsive but it will be barely enough to notice.
I have Obsessive Compulsive symptoms which are pretty problematic (i.e. obsessive hand washing, checking and rechecking locks et cetera) but they are not serious enough for me to be diagnosed having an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. A person diagnosed with OCD usually have let the disease take over their life. They might spend all their spare time in the washroom scrubbing their hands with soap until they are raw or circling their bed 18 times every night and 18 times when they wake up every day.
For more information about OCD, you can take a look at this website:
http://www.ocfoundation.org/ocf1010a.htm
As for getting your teeth professionally whitened, it is a pretty good option. The price range will depend on the area you live in and your dental insurance (if you have any).

How do you make a layout for your advice column?
Click on Column Settings and change it from there. You can customize your buttons, background, et cetera.
You can take a look at my column to have an idea of what your options are because I believe I customized pretty much everything possible.

From what I see, Blair is in the middle of the first one with Isabel and Kati flanking her.
THe second one is Serena. The third one is Serena and Blair. Sometimes they wear S's and B's on their pinky rings so you can tell. I'm not sure in -Because I'm Worth It- because the chick doesn't look like Serena but she's blonde so :s and Blair is supposed to have cut her hair but her hair is still long in the cover of -I Like It Like That-

Body language -does- say a lot. About 90% of what you say is body language and only 10% is actually the words you speak.
A quick summary of body language can be found here:

how do u tell if a louis vituonn purse is real or not..my cousin gave it to my sister and my sister handed it down to me...is there anyway you can tell
Ill rate 5 for helping
Honestly? There are a few counterfeits that are so professionally made that it is hard to distinguish the fake from the real ones. The counterfeit industry is -huge- and fakes are getting harder to find out.
I would recommend you check this website out. This woman has written three pages on Louis Vuitton fakes:

P.S I have already blogged about elections in Canada.

The charges against Google for retaining private information for numerous years.
Iran's wish to produce Nuclear fuel.
Mutated German Super Baby that has boosted muscle growth.

I know this is kind of early to be asking, but for prom should you wear short dress or a long dress? I want to wear a short dress, but i dont know if that would be weird
This all depends on your body shape and personal preference.
Take a look at this website, it will guide you through the process of figuring out what type of gown will look best on you:

How old Should a child be when they start dating?
I believe it's up to the parent.
In my opinion, I'm thinking about 14 or whenever they enter high school. Maybe a little earlier so they'll get a little practice and not totally be surprised with the dating scene.
You have to start somewhere.

A little girl was walking in the winter and saw a frozen snake by the side of the road. She took pity on it, and put it in her pocket to warm it up. After a while, the snake warmed up, and bit her in the leg. She said, "Hey, I took care of you, what did you bite me for?" And the snake said, "Well, you knew I was a snake when you picked me up, didn’t you?"
What is the moral of this story? I'm just curious.
It means that trust shouldn't be placed so easily. Someone that might be a sweetheart when they're in the dumps might be total dicks when they're back in a power position.

My mom keeps giving my dad crap about how he doesn't pay the child support, but she keeps going and spending the money on stupid crap.
The question i actually have is, when does a parent have to stop paying child support? Does he have to pay till the child is 18 and legally an adult, or does he have to keep paying until the child has graduated from high school? OR, is it determined differently for each divorce?
I'm 18 and in California. If anyone knows the actual details on this, i would GREATLY appreciate it. If your info is right, i'll give 5s
How long do I have to pay child support?
Child support generally continues until the minor child emancipates or until otherwise noted in the child support order. Under California law, a parent's obligation to pay support continues until the child becomes 18 years old. However, the current support obligation may continue until the child is 19, if the child is unmarried and attending high school full time. A court may order current child support to continue after the child emancipates because of special circumstances.

Alright I'm 15 and I'm a male. My girlfriends birthday is comming up really soon & she won't tell me what she wants for her birthday. I have no idea what I should get her. She's going to be 14. If anyone can give me some ideas it'd be greatly appreciated. I'll rate you on it too. I really need some help. Thanks
For a 14 year old girl? Oh there is so much stuff that you can give her. Pick a present keeping your budget and how long you have been going out in mind. Always ask a sales associate for help:
- A couple of jewelry and other items from a girly store (Earrings, necklaces, keychains covers et cetera.)
- One key jewelry item (Go to a mod-jewelry store and pick out a cute pendant. Silver chains come pretty cheap.)
- CDs and DVDs (A CD of a band or a singer she really likes. A movie she loves or has been wanting to see. Season 1 of the OC?)
- Makeup (Go to a department store and ask the beautician to pick out some lipsticks or nailpolishes for you.)
- Flowers (A huge boquet paired with a few balloons never goes wrong.)
- A cellphone or ipod/mp3 cover (You can find them everywhere. Pink is key unless she isn't into that look.)
- A Gift Certificate for her favourite store (All girls love shopping. At it doesn't seem like you didn't know what to get her because you know the stores she shops at. Offer to accompany her when she goes.)

This is definetely not the greatest of questions..Here I go, Im a guy, and for whatever reason Im always extremely horny, I could just have finished having sex, 10 minutes later i need some more, Im pretty sure this is normal, but just in case there is something wrong with me, i figured I would ask. Also ladies, is this something positive, negative, or does it even matter when looking for potential bf material?
No, there isn't anything wrong with you. It's pretty much a given that younger males are always wanting to have a go.
What do women think? It depends on what stage you're in with a her. If you're just starting a new relationship with her or are about to, it's not a very good idea to start pressuring her for sex or telling her about your needs. However, once you two are sexually active, she'll probably appreciate your drive unless you start wearing her out.
Just be sensitive of her feelings too. Understand that women aren't screwing machines, (I've had a lot of guys make that mistake) and she'll be happy to please you.

im not sure how do i tell im realy not sure im confused if i am well... it soo goes against my religin help will give 5s for good answers
Usually teenagers go through a stage of curiosity. If this phase extends till your mid-twenties then you should start thinking about it seriously. At this age, your body is growing and you might be 'confused', for a lack of a better word. Don't worry about it, I went through it myself.
Not being a religious person myself, I would say that as long as you don't act on these urges, you should be fine in the eyes of your religious entity, if you believe in one.

My 15-year-old niece is having a birthday soonish and I'd like to get her a present. She likes reading so I figured a book would be good. What's a book that is of literary quality that a 15-year-old would like, but does not contain any sex or swear words (her mom wouldn't let her read it then)? And don't say the Princess Diaries series, I think she has all those already.
If she likes reading, chances are that she reads at a higher level. It's hard what to recommend because we don't know what types of genres she likes.
However, classics like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice never fail to be a good reading experience.

One of my friends likes this guy, and while I was at her house I started talking to him on AIM; we had a good conversation, so when i got home I asked for his sn, because we got along pretty well. I've been talking for him for two or three weeks, now and I'm starting to get the feeling that I may like him. I really don't want to do anything to make my friend mad at me or him, and I don't want it to seem like I'm stealing him from her. I don't want to tell either of them that I do like him, because I'm not positive. I don't want to make something bad if it's just a phase or whatever. What should I do?
Stop talking to him. Remove yourself from this situation right now. Because if he ends up liking you too, it could get really messy.
On all counts, your friend has claimed this guy and if you start becoming romantically involved with this boy, you -are- stealing him from her.
Never put your friendship before any guy. Just forget about him before you start becoming too attached.
