Okay so I plan to transfer out of state for college. My mom makes about 26,000 a year and she supports a family of 6. I feel out of place to ask her if she could drive me to whatever school I plan to go to, for financial reasons. I graduated HS about 2 yrs ago and I went to a university in state and I hated it. I made alot of friends but, I just wasn't happy there. Now I am at a community college and I want to enter the fall 2012 which will be my junior year, happily. I am very unhappy of my whereabouts and I want to be content with the decision I make. I always envisioned myself going out of MA for school.I've looked into transferring somewhere in the Mid- Atlantic region or the south. I would love to see the opportunities that are available elsewhere for me. My parents are very traditional and they discourage my idea of wanting to leave the state. They like to "play it safe" and settle for what's in front of them. This is not a bad thing, but I feel like I am settling for their decisions. When in reality, I need to make decisions for myself. I'm 19, and it's time I start acting like it. YES, I know it is more affordable if I stay in state for school. But that is not my main concern. PLEASE DO NOT tell me about the benefits of staying in- state for school. I already all of them.
My question is: what do you think of this? how can I send my belongings to my school of choice? Should I just settle for a school in state? (link)

Hi there,
As for the actual transferring schools part of this, the only thing you will need to do is decide on a school that you would like to attend, then contact them to see if they will accept your transfer. If so, they will talk with your current school and help you get all your transfer paperwork ready.
Two things I have learned through hard experience:
No matter how crazy you feel like your family drives you, there will come a time when you will wish you never left. Might be a month, might be a decade, but I would bet money that you will find yourself longing for things you never thought you would miss.
The second thing is that, with VERY few exceptions, moving to get away from your problems doesn't work. Why? We bring our problems with us. Usually turns out that what we thought the problem was... well, it wasn't.
I don't presume to know your life, your parents or anything else, but these are things that are so common to so many people's life experiences that they are accepted as nearly universal truths. :-)
Now, on the other hand, I would also like to say that very few things help a person get a new perspective on life like travel.
I know you think 19 is old, and you should be "living your life" by now. Been there, done that. If it were at all possible for you to hear me, I would save you the pain that is coming if you relocate to a new place at 19. I will try:
None of us are quite as bright as we think we are at that age. It has nothing to do with I.Q. and everything to do with wisdom. You don't have much yet. Don't be offended... none of us do at 19. Nobody.
Quick example from my own life: My dad... at 18 I was sure he was wrong about everything, and so I went off moved away and did some spectacularly stupid things. Just a few years later, I would have known better.
No way I am even going to pretend to understand how it all works, exactly, but there is a certain wisdom that comes from age alone. Some people never develop it, but for most of us, it comes along over time.
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that our brains haven't begun to finish developing at 19. Some say 23, some say 25 years old is when the brain is fully formed. Looking back at my experience, I made an exceptionally unwise decision at 26, that I wouldn't have made at 30, so for me I don't think that real wisdom took hold until then.
Perhaps when I am 70 someday, I will look back on myself now and marvel at what a knucklehead I was... but I can give you my word that there is a dramatic upswing in wisdom just around the corner.
Please, don't do anything you will spend the rest of your life regretting. What seems like the smartest thing EVER when you are 19, is usually something you will hate yourself for at 23. You can take my word, if you like, and I hope you do, but if you don't... write me back when you are 23 and tell me how it all worked out, would you? :-)
As for shipping your stuff, that is no big deal. Box it all up and ship it UPS or FedEx. If you have a lot of stuff to send, you can ask FedEx about sending a pallet with your stuff. Pretty much anything you can stick on a pallet, up to six feet tall can be shipped that way.
I like to travel... a lot. So keep that in mind when I say this: You will end up someplace. Make sure it is someplace you want to be. I can also vouch for the fact that no matter how much you dislike where you are right now... you will wish you could go back. It happens to everyone, and there is no shame in it.
Good luck, be smart and I hope to hear from you in the future. :-)

is there like an official orginization that handles the official findings on egypt or like the release of artifacts for museums, etc. Kind of like how there is the USDA or NASA. Thank you. (link)

As far as a US agency, the state department would handle most things related to other countries. Here is the state department's Egypt page:

... as far as Egypts artifacts, they would be handled by their own country's agency:

I found a delivery slip on my door when I came home today saying that I had a certified letter I needed to pick up from the post office. The handwriting is really bad, but I think it says the letter is from the DMV.
I know the easiest answer is to just wait until tomorrow morning when I go pick up the letter, but why would the DMV send me certified mail? I only have a learners, but I haven't driven in over a year, so I know it can't be about points on my driver's record. I don't have a car registered under my name. The only thing I can think of is maybe I filled out my Voter's Registration wrong, but I just filled it out yesterday, so it doesn't make sense for it to have anything to do with that.
I've been told receiving certified mail is normally a 90% chance of it being bad, and I'm just kind of freaking out here. (link)

Hi there,
The only thing I could think of off hand was they were notifying you that your permit was expiring, and it was time to either renew, or get your act together and get your license before a certain date.
You have me curious... what did it turn out to be?
|
please give me answer (link)

You have been answered. It is normal.

I Discharge Before Sex (link)

It is normal for a woman to become "wet" before sex. That is kind of the point.
If the discharge has a strange odor or color, then see your doctor.
|
What did the docter say about the cut in your hand, because the same thing has happened to me, thanks (link)

Hi there,
Each case is different. You will have to go talk to the doctor yourself to see if you have ink poisoning.

I just bought a used Dell Optiplex 320 (about a 5year old unit) with SATA architecture inside. The hard drive is 80 gig and i want to use it only for the OS and program installs, and I wanna add a second SATA 500GB drive for my files only. My questions are: 1. Is there an XP limit to maximum hard drive size and if so whats the size and is in cumulative or per drive? and 2: what are the three most reliable hard drive brands to buy?
(link)
|
Hi there,
Make sure you are using at least Windows XP SP1 when you do the installation, and all should be well for your 500GB drive.
There is a Windows drive size limit, but it isn't really per drive... it is per volume, or more easily understood as per drive letter.
2TB (2,000GB) is the largest drive size that the 32-bit Windows XP OS supports without resorting to any kind of trickery.
There are ways around it, if you have a 3TB drive you want to use, but you are far better off to split the drive into two logical volumes, say drives E: and F: than you use a trick that will slow down access to your data, just so you can have all that space on one drive letter... UNLESS you have a real need to have all that space on a single volume.
Given that we are talking about a 500GB drive, you shouldn't have any problems at all. :-)
As for which brand is best... well, you certainly have asked the impossible of me here. You see, things have gotten so bad lately that there isn't a straight answer to that question anymore.
Seagate makes some very reliable drives... and then they have some specific models that are completely doomed. How does a drive get all the way to market when the people reviewing them are reporting 50% failure rates in the first week or so? How does a hard drive manufacturer let that happen?
Western Digital left such a bad taste in my mouth that it has taken me a decade to even entertain the thought of giving them another try, but I am there now.
Samsung made some hard drives that are legendarily reliable... but they were bought by Seagate last year, and now your mileage may vary as the two companies integrate. :-(
Hitachi made some of the most reliable drives I have every owned and worked with in a server environment... But Western Digital just acquired Hitachi's storage business.
Basically, corporations merge the way most people who cheat on their spouse do things: The worse company buys the better one and ruins it completely. K-Mart buying Sears... is that enough of an example?
So, is it all hopeless? No, I just needed to demonstrate that there is no simple answer as to which brand is best.
You will need to look through drives that are at the capacity you want, then judge them by their reviews on a per item, not per brand, basis.
Perhaps it would also help to draw another comparison: You will have to READ the reviews, not just go by the number of stars.
Just like some people when asked if Ford or Chevy is better will defend to the death whatever they own at the moment... even though the one they own has just burst into flames in their driveway... so too are people with hard drive brands.
My dad, a man who hates computers with an incredible passion, gave some of the most helpful advice in this situation, purely by accident, and I would like to share that with you now:
I once asked my dad who he was rooting for in an upcoming Superbowl, and he gave the most mature and well reasoned answer I think has ever been given to such a question: "I have decided to root for whoever plays best on the day."
That is the attitude we should probably take in everything, but I can vouch for the fact that if you don't take that approach to buying a hard drive these days, you will regret it.
So, what now?
Rules I have for myself:
Look for the hard drive with the best reviews from actual users
Look for the drive with the longest warranty
Look for the drive with the largest cache on-board
Look for the drive with the best reliability, even if it isn't the fastest. (If I wanted fast, I would buy SSD.)
Look at all those factors, and the drive(s) that match the largest percentage of those rules are the ones I pick between.
I suggest newegg.com as a source for both purchasing and reading user reviews.
Further thoughts: Do NOT buy refurbished hard drives.
If you can wait, I would... HD prices are through the roof since last year's flooding of the region the produces most hard drives. Even if everything is back to normal at the factories, they are going to milk this as long as possible.
The same 500GB Seagate I bought for $50~ before the flooding is now $140~ so you can see why they are going to milk this as long as they can.
You know, you asked which are the three most reliable drive makers, and after all this it occurs to me that there really aren't three makers any more.
Of the common brands of rotational drives, as opposed to solid state (SSD)... after the mergers are settled, there will only be:
Seagate (and brands they own)
Western Digital (and brands they own)
Your mileage may vary with either one of these. There is no clear winner anymore. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant of what is going on in the market.
If I were to buy a 500GB drive, today, for myself it would probably be this one:

While I won't be doing your homework for you, I can tell you that if you want a good start on understanding the cycle of financial boom and bust, then set aside some time and watch: "The Money Masters"
This is, in my opinion, the best place to start. There are 100s of other documentaries out there that are worth watching, but many of them will be more easily understood if you already have this one under your belt.
If you watch this, and you pay attention, it will change your life.

Okay, so I've been hearing about this new messaging app that is becoming popular for blackberries and androids etc.
I have a blackberry yes, but due to parental complications, I no longer have social add-ons. I understand that social add-ons did use "data", but now that I don't have them, I turn my data usage OFF. I aslo don't have an actual data plan the provides you with web usage.
So my question is, "Can I use Hookt on Wifi? Or do I need to be able to have some sort of data?"
Help is greatly appreciated :) (link)
|
Yes, you need to have a data plan if your phone is not connected to a wifi hotspot at the moment.
From the hookt FAQ:
"Hookt Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you would use for email and web. As such, if you would normally pay cellular data roaming charges ... for web and email usage, Hookt would be no different. However, Hookt would be free to use over a Wi-Fi connection. To confirm that your data roaming is disabled, go into your iPhone Settings, and select the “General” option, then “Network”. Here there will be a “Data Roaming” option that you want to make sure it is set to “Off”."
More info on using Hookt with and without data plans:

I saw this add for Justice League Starcrossed "Unmasked" in this old batman movie. I look up Just league starcrossed in my library search. Not thinking to put the Unmasked part in there. I thought it would just show up. But what did show up is Justice League just plain Starcossed. Is Justice League Starcoss number one and Justice League starcrossed "unmasked" is number two(like Toy store number one and Toy store number two. Something like that.) (link)

It is kind of weird in that it is one thing in three parts.

Have money- ready to buy..// Here's some history..
I'm an online student, currently with an iPhone and Verizon with hotspot. I can't afford it much longer, and would like to be prepared so I can get internet access someway. I have laptop with Vista (yuck) and intel adapters. My ability to see networks is not good. Can't even see iPhone when it's right beside it. I guess i want to have stronger wifi ability. about 1/2 mile, i have a friend that let's me use his signal. I have to walk there. I need to extend my range? I'm really just a few blocks down the road. If i had his signal at my house.....I have a D-Link DI-604, my intel wireless card 2200BG. I am ready right now to buy something online. so, what should i get?
--have a dell laptop that needs adapters, should i get bluetooth, internal card, usb device,???--
but for an extender, what would be the best option? THank you for helping. (link)

Hi there,
What you are asking for may be quite expensive. A half mile in the city is a very hard thing to achieve without directional antennae and a clear line of sight between the two antennae.
Before I could begin to answer this, I would need to know if you have:
1) a clear line of sight between both places
2) a friend who is willing to put up a highly directional antenna on the outside of his house, and change his router location to suit your needs
3) a minimum of $500
4) a qualified installer willing to aim and align these antenna placements.
You see, to go beyond the 150-300' range offered by an off the shelf reange extender, you need to chain them or get very serious about your hardware.
I don't know what basic internet costs where you are, but here I could pay for 18 months of internet for the cost of the hardware you are going to need.
Now, you can TRY a cheaper alternative, and see what you get. The iTurboTenna is about $100, and a good place to start if you want to throw a hail mary and see if you can get signal from where you are.
Here is an eBay search you may find helpful:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=wifi+long+range+yagi&_sacat=0&_odkw=wifi+range+long+yagi&_osacat=0
If you want to set up a wireless hotspot in your location as an extension of his wireless connection you are going to need something a little more specialized:
"Wifi repeater with Yagi antenna"
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=wifi+repeater+yagi&_sacat=0&_odkw=wifi+repeater+linksys&_osacat=0&_from=R40
Good luck, and before you do ANYTHING about this, make certain that this is legal, and not against the rules of your donor's ISP. You could get him permanently banned from his ISP for sharing his connection. That wouldn't be very nice.
Let me know, directly, if you need anything else.

Hi, I am thinking about transferring to Miami University in Oxford Ohio. If anyone knows a lot about this school or even better went there could you please clarify some of my concerns:
-Is the work amount and easiness really hard?
-There voted #3 for hottest girls, but i've heard the girls are EXTREMELY unfriendly, Is this true?
-How is the social environment?
-Are sororities easy to get into?
-Just overall whats your opinion on the college?
Thank you in advance so much! I really appreciate it:) (link)

One of the best forums for finding out more about a given college or university is CollegeConfidential.com. Here is their listing of information for Miami University in Oxford Ohio:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/miami-university-ohio/
Here is the College Prowler page:
http://collegeprowler.com/miami-university/
The Student Life section of the official website may be interesting:
http://www.miami.muohio.edu/student-life/
The students also have a paper that is worth reading:
http://www.miamistudent.net/
Since nobody here has attended the school recently, your best bet is to spend some time touring the campus, and talking to the houses you are interested in pledging to.
Good luck, and one piece of advice: Until you are 100% certain what you want to do for a living, do NOT go to college and start piling up debt chasing after a degree you won't use in the long run. Just had to get that out there, in case you are one of the people going to college just because you think that is what you are supposed to do right out of high school. You know, the people who end up with a bazillion dollars in student loans, and flipping burgers... because they went into debt before they had a clue about life. ;-)
Good luck!

Are there any books that have specific quotes and teachings/translations of Osiris'/Ra's teachings...Similar to how the Bagavad Gita has Krishna's or The Bible has Jesus'. Please do not recommend a book you have not read or at least looked in thoroughly. Thank you for the recommendations. (link)

I am no longer receiving all my emails via iPhone or pc. (hotmail) I do however get some! A few weeks ago I accidentally clicked on what turned out to be a virus. It was on my iPhone and nothing untoward seemed to have happened. Could this be linked? If so, or if you have any other ideas, I'd be grateful for advice please! (link)
|
Taking a wild guess that by virus, you mean something other than hotmail asked you for your login details? That is called "phishing" and is completely unrelated to virii. If you mean something else, please give more details about exactly what happened.
If, on the other hand you were phished, then it would explain.
You must change your password information immediately. I would also write hotmail support and inform them of what is going on... so that when your account is used to spam everyone in your contacts list, they will know it wasn't you doing it.
Good luck, and if you need more assistance with this, please write me directly with additional info.

I have a HUGE microeconomics exam on tuesday.. it's the first one of the semester. This class definitely isn't my forte and I'm having a lot of trouble answering questions. we are covering basic concepts right now.. like the 7 core principles, the determinants, supply and demand, elasticity, comparative advantage, etc..
We also have to find slopes and be able to read graphs and know what they mean.. and what data they represent adn all that.
I'm not good with this stuff and I'm sort of panicking.
So my question is, are there any websites for microeconomics where they give a question and an answer so I am able to see the answer explained fully.. that way I can better understand it. I looked online and I haven't found anything yet but my book doesn't really give example problems with the answers.
Please help! I really need to pass this with a B at least. (link)
|
Hi there,
I know Tuesday is long gone, but the odds are you could still use a little help getting into the microeconomic groove here, right? :-)
First things first: Prepping for a test in this subject, like most others, is poison if you don't have a firm grasp of the basics. Once you understand the principles, you will not often need example questions to help you understand. Wouldn't that be nice for a change? ;-)
Now, what would you say if I told you there are college level courses of video lectures and tutorials available for free to you? No I am not kidding.
Please start here:
Free-ed's free economics tutorials:
http://free-ed.net/free-ed/Navigation/Level01/Level02/02_BusMarketEcon/Level_03/03_Busi_Econ.asp?iNum=1
Pay attention when it says things like: "Study Introduction to Economics before attempting to take this course." They don't do that unless they mean it.
Another resource they have that I found interesting:
http://free-ed.net/free-ed/Courses/Busi/Econ/PrincMicroeconomics.asp
... there are two PDF workbooks on this page. One is a collection of microeconomic exercises, examples if you will, which might really aid you in getting up to speed.
Before I go any further, I wanted to reassure you of something important: You aren't stupid. :-)
You are in a field of study that baffles everyone who enters it. The people you see who seem to have a grasp of it right away... well, those are the people who are the most clueless of all, as they THINK they know it all. Whoa unto them as this course progresses. Because they think they know everything, they aren't bothering to learn the things you are now, which is going to leave them baffled when they are too far into the course to fix it.
More tutorials that you may find helpful:
"University of South Carolina: Economics Interactive Tutorials"
http://hadm.sph.sc.edu/Courses/Econ/Tutorials.html
This REALLY is right up your alley:
"MSU's Problems in Microeconomics"
https://www.msu.edu/course/ec/201/brown/pim/
If you need more resources, please don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck!

For my english class I have to write an essay over
"My Papa Waltz" && "Those Winter Sundays" comparing and contrasting the two poems and the feelings the son has toward their fathers. I have to support my points and develop my essay with quotes from the two points;
I read both the poems, and I thought the Papa Waltz one was about a father who was an alcholic who abused his son with his belt; but I read some other peoples opinions, and they said it wasn't.
So could someone help?
(link)
|
Hi there,
While I have no intention of doing your homework for you, I would like to help you better understand the poem My Papa Waltz.
I mean no offense in asking this, and I only ask because the only way I can get what you got out of it is if I didn't know this one thing:
Are you aware that a waltz is a dance style?
If not, read it again with that in mind, and all should be cleared right up.
If so, I am curious how you got the whole abuse angle out of this. Would you mind sharing that in feedback?
My interpretation of the poem is as a very fond memory from childhood.
Dad comes home from drinking with the boys. Still reeling from the music heard while out, he bursts through the door... and as his son comes to greet him, he snatches him up and dances about the house so raucously that the dishes fall off the shelves.
Papa is a bit wobbly and isn't doing well with the 1-2-3-4 of the waltz, and so when he steps wrong, the boys head (at the same height as his father's buckle) is caught on said buckle.
Mother disapproves of the scene, and so the father waltzes his son off to the other room to put him to bed, still clinging to his father's shirt.
I hope that helps you to better understand your assignment, which should make it easier to compare it with the other poem.
Good luck with your assignment.
