about
I am 48 years old (yes that's old compared to some of you).
I have worked in nursing and/or healthcare management positions for 24 years. Primarily OB, Neonatal, Mental Health, Occupational Health and Geriatrics. In Jan 2008 I started my own business to board horses and do equine/human education. I am also a certified dog trainer.
I've been around the block so to speak and seem to be always helping others. I've been told that the reason people seek me out for advice is that I am approachable and caring. But on the same token even though I consider the person's feelings. I tell it like I see it. I've dealt with people in trouble with the law, dysfunctional families such as those with abuse & marriage problems. Not to mention problems with employees and employers.
I don't ever claim to know it all, and always keep an open mind.

Yesterday me and my boyfriend were lying in bed and he started to rub his penis on my clitoris. He did that for a while and then he came. I didnt think that was a problem because he wasnt inside me but then he started fingering me. Is there a chance that his sperm went inside me? Could I be pregnant? Pls help!
Since there are millions of sperm in one drop of semen, it's quite possible that one sperm made it's way to fertilze an egg. This would depend on if you were in a fertile stage or not. So the answer to both questions are yes, it's possible.
is it safe to give my dog frosted flakes or cheerios?
Well, I use plain regular cheerios for training treats and the vet didn't object. Bascially the grains in cheerios are similar to what is in dog food. Frosted flakes contain too much sugar, but a few cheerios a day probably won't hurt.
Im just checking if anything is wrong with me or anything. lol. Im not sure what it could be or if its nothing really. Well, lately i have been getting dizzy a lot. Sometimes when i first get up from sleeping. When Im watching T.V. ill get up and then ill get really dizzy when i get into my kitchen to the point when i know its coming now. I also get really dizzy when its hot outside. Its not hard for me to get dizzy, and i can feel it coming. When i do get dizzy it lasts a while and sometimes i loose my balance, well, most of the time i do. Im not sure what it is, or if i have to worry about it at all.. If anyone knows or has any ideas of what it could be or if you have any suggestions please let me know. Sorry its so long.
Sometimes slight dehydration can cause the symptoms you have described, you might try increasing your fluids especially water. The best thing to do though is check with your Dr because there are many causes. It most likely is nothing serious, but it's not worth taking the chance.
Okay, this may not seem like a problem, but I started babysitting for this one family this summer. They have a pretty big house and good jobs, so it's not like they are poor. I think they overpay me though. I know I shouldn't complain, but they paid me $40 for watching a 4-year-old and a nine-year-old from 6-11pm....and they pay me $100 a week to watch the 9-year-old while they are at work during the summer....watching the nine-year-old basically consists of watching tv or watching him play nintendo or watching him fish. it's not a hard job, and I enjoy it...should I say something about the high pay, or just take it as them appreciating me and being nice? I don't want to get more than I deserve....
If they were taking the kids to day care the cost would probably be more, not including the gas to transport the kids. They have probably figured that all out and pay you accordingly. Don't say anything about the pay, if they thought it was too much they'd pay you less. Just send them a little thank you card telling them how great it is to work for them..and that you appreciate the opportunity.
how long do they usually live for? in human years, please&thanks;]]
I adopted a stray Shih Tzu while still living at home with my parents in 1979. The vet guessed he was about two years old. He died in 1994 at 17 years old. The amazing thing is...now-a-days we are told to feed dogs the expensive food. He ate regular purina dog chow! He didn't suffer with arthritis, blindness or deafness and lived an active life right up until the day he died.
I'm a bit worried. I found a small lump which I think is the color black under the skin of my vagina. It has been there for a while but I have just recently become concerned with it and I thought I should get an opinion before consulting with my mother or doctor. Could you please tell me if this is something I should be concerned about?
It could be a mole, yes people even have these on their peri area. If you observe any changes, you should report it promptly to your Dr. Otherwise most likely it is not harmful, but worth bringing it to the Dr's attention during a check up.
i was looking on google for websites about getting a flat stomach and i found this: http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/butt6541/mycustompage0011.htm look down on number 13 and where it says stuff like "If you are not thin you are ugly" and "being thin is way more important then being healthy"(along with all the other facts that are there) im not fat or anything but is this true? it sounds really stupid but i was wondering if this is true.
Read the bottom of the page. Obviously it was either written or endorsed by someone with anorexia. Not good info...obviously they are obsessed with their weight, and probably look like a walking skeleton with sunken eyes and pale skin.
There are many people that are quite a few pounds overweight that are healthy and beautiful...so obviously they have the anorexics beat in that department.
Bad info....not true.
The reason my mom let me see him untill he died was becouse I had supervision while I was with him my granny was there while I was around him.
Oh, okay, I understand now..she must have felt that you were safe. I hope you find some resolution to your situation, best of luck.
Hey iam a 17 year old girl and the other night I asked my mom why she divorced my dad when I was 3 becouse she never told me,but when I asked she said the reason I divorced your dad when you were 3 was becouse he molested you when you were 3 I was like really shocked becouse me and my dad were always so close before he died when I was 12 I don't know what to belive anymore iam so confused if I can't trust my dad who can I trust anymore?how can I find out if this is true since my dad died when I was 12?I've tried asking my granny my dad's mom becouse I figured she would tell me the truth, but she didn't want to talk about, she just said now rachel you know that's not something polite to talk about.I didn't mean to be rude, but I was just so desperate I felt like I had to find out.what should I do?please help me iam so confused.I don't even know if this is something I should be trying to find out or if I have the right to be confused and scared.what should I do?
Of course you have the right to be confused or scared. I gather by your granny's answer, it may be true. She was probably raised in a time when people didn't talk about those things, but even so I would think if it were not true she would say "No" of course not!
What is unsettling for me as a reader is if it were true, and your Mom knew about it when you were three, why did she let you continue to have contact with your Dad until he passed away? Most bonafide pedofiles don't stop, so that part doesn't make sense. Also if you were older than three, you'd probably remember something.
I must wonder if your Mom saw or heard something that she construed as sexual abuse when that's not what it was at all. Some mothers, because they were abused themselves are so scared and traumatized that they might think it's abuse if Dad walked around in his underwear, or wiped a little girls bottom. Also some are so angry at their husbands they make this stuff up. There's even a syndrome called S.A.I.D...because this has happened so frequently.
Therapists are now questioning repressed memory syndrome (are the memories really true?) or did the Therapist (put the ideas there?)
Aside from this, I think it would be best if you see a counselor and discuss your fears with him/her. You need to get on with your life, and at 17 you have a lot of living left to do.
It's okay that you loved your daddy, you didn't know any better, and even if it is true, it's not your fault.
this is a strange question but when i have sex my leg twitches uncontrolably. i dont know if its from nerves although im not nervous because im married and wouldn't mind another child or if its just from the pleasure. does this or anything like this happen to anyone else? by the way im a 28/f
It could be from "nerves" but not being nervous. I am assuming it is from the pressure that is placed upon your leg, or the position you are in. This will decrease the blood flow to that body part and therefore the electricity in the nerves will fire differently--causing the muscles to shake or twitch. Have you ever carried something heavy with your arms for a long period of time, or squished your toes in high heel shoes? This causes the same reaction in some people.
Can you get an STD from sharing underwear with someone else who has an STD, even if the underwear is washed?
If the underwear is washed in hot water and/or dried in a hot dryer, STD's will not survive under those conditions. If the water and or dryer were cool--it's possible, but very remote.
OKay I woke up one day to see little tiny bumps on my face... i thought i was breaking out well now its on my arms and starting to move down my neck. its not noticable to others but when i feel my face and look in the mirror i cna see them. i have been doing my daily rountine as usual using the cleaner, the toner, and then the mosturizer. but its not going away and i don't know what to do. its very itchy. does anyone have any ideas or any experiences that are similar?
You may have an illness that causes a rash, or an allergic reaction to something. It would be best not to use anything on your face but plain water and if it doesn't go away or gets worse see the Dr right away.
i know green poop isnt normal.
yesterday i started to get stomach pains when i moved and stretched and sucked my stomach in and what not.
then occured getting green poop.
didnt eat anything different then the normal stuff i eat. and its pretty healthy.
yes my mother knows.
im probably going to the doctor tomorrow.
but before i go..is there anything that can be causing this?
thanks in advance.
Things that can cause this are iron pills or even vitamins with iron, or pepto bismol. I imagine that certain food colorings or dye can cause this too. If you didn't consume anything on this order, yes it's best to see the Dr.
My friend just got diagnosed with a fractured spine. She is very scared at this stage - i am aswell.
What causes a fractured spine?
How is a fractured spine treated?
What implication will it have to her physically?
Will she still be able to play hockey, cycle and go to the gym?
Since you are asking about strenuous activities, I am assuming your friend is young. Many older people have what's called compression fractures of the spine and live fairly normal lives, with the exception of varying degrees of pain. This is usally precipitated by osteoporosis, and they don't have to suffer an injury first. Treatment consists of reversing and decreasing bone loss (or the mass) of the bone.
This can happen in younger people, but usually there is an underlying disease that causes the bones to become porous, such as osteopenia or a disorder that limits their movement (such as paralysis from spina bifida). The first line of treatment would be getting to the bottom of why the fracture happened--treatment will much depend on the underlying cause, and how severe the fracture is--even what position it is in.
If it were caused by trauma, and the bone and patient were otherwise healthy, surgical intervention or temporary immobilization may be a couple of options. If that's the case, then aside from any range of motion issues, the person will probably recover with little disability. Only the Dr will be able to make recommendations on what activities will be safe. For example cycling might be acceptable, but hockey might not be.
By my answer, you can already guess that there are so many variables that no one but your friends Dr can give you or her specifics. It all seems very frightening, I know, but hopefully her Dr will be able to offer a viable solution that will calm her fears.
Please tell me how I can help my son stop his itching from a sunburn.
Aveeno bath first, pat the skin dry and apply solarcain.
You might also ask the pharmacist about giving oral benedryl. This is very simple and sound advice. I don't understand the low rating, but oh well! No good deed goes unpunished!
i want to start talking to my mom about 'private issues' and i was wondering which would be more embarassing to talk to your mom about: bras or shaving legs? thanks!
I think Bras would be the more difficult topic, but don't worry..every female has had to discuss this with their Mother, or buy one themselves. Perhaps you could get a catalog and ask her opinion to help get the conversation started.
i want to get a puppy who gets along well with people and other dogs because i have an older dog, too. i want it to maybe be a small dog and one that won't be outragously expensive because i am 14 and i would probably have to pay myself. any ideas on a type i could look into buying? thanks!
I am almost through my dog training classes, and breed selection is one of the topics I am studying. Any kind of terrier probably wouldn't be the greatest choice, because some of them tend to be territorial and hyper with other dogs. A dog that might do well, and is usually lovable is a Shi Tzu. They are unexpensive around here anyway, and the best part is they hardly shed and usually have a relaxed temperment.
This is a good site that can help.

hey everyone. i asked a question awhile ago about my best friend who's dad had lung cancer. well his dad died. and im just wondering like what are appropriate things to say. not just "i'll be there for you" can someone actually help me with what to say? also me and my friends want to do something for him. big or small no matter what it is. does anyone anyone anyone have any suggestions? im begging you, because this kid is so devastated. thank you.
When my Dad died one thing that someone said to me was "If we knew when we'd were going to die, we'd never live" which is true.
If you can get a picture of his Dad, make a home made sympathy card. Not on the computer but by hand. You can buy supplies to do this at the craft store, such as ribbon, rubber stamps or scrapbooking supplies. Write a nice little poem inside the card and have all the friends sign it. Granted the card will evoke some sad feelings, but as time goes on, it will be much appreciated.
Another nice thing to do is put flowers on his Dad's grave, that way when the family goes to visit they will see that someone else cares.
sometimes, my armpits sweat for no apparent reason. I dont even have to run around..and they start to sweat...it leaves these horrible sweat marks underneath my armpits and i dont even want to raise my aroms up...does any one have any ideas on how to stop this??? Oh yeah, and they even sweat when it is cold out!!!
Someone else had this question at one time, so I found this link. Good info :-) Best of luck!

im 14 and i used to cut not that long ago. i have stopped but i have random urges to start cutting again. im not sure what is causing this. i think it may be because im gonna be going to high school and im nervous. please try to help me.
People say they cut because it releases emotional pain. Although of course you know that's not the answer. It's wrong for people to look down on you because you have the urge to cut, but honestly they don't know any better, and it will just make you more uncomfortable. Highschool is a difficult time yes, but as kids mature, it gets better. Certainly it's better and eaiser than Jr. High. My advise is to find something (a hobby or sport) that you are really good at and practice at it. This will help build your self esteem, and also be a release for your pain. Best of luck.
