i want to get a puppy who gets along well with people and other dogs because i have an older dog, too. i want it to maybe be a small dog and one that won't be outragously expensive because i am 14 and i would probably have to pay myself. any ideas on a type i could look into buying? thanks!

I have an older dog too. For X-mas my dad bought us a little Jack Ruessel. Breeders (where we got our Jack Ruessel) aren't usually that expensive. BUT going to your local spca our shelter could save a dogs life. (dogs they cant sell are put to sleep :()and pet store dogs arent all theat healthy. A couple small dog types are: Jack Russel Terriers (also known as Pardon Russels) chiwawas (i dont know how to spell it) welsh corgi pemproke, bulldogs (range from small to med. smallish. They are all pretty easy to take care of and are good tempered (welsh corgis need to be introduced to people and other animals that they will see daily alot while they are a puppy or they will get snippy. If you cant find any cheap enough puppy then why not an older dog?? Most older dogs cant find a home due to the reason they are older (which i dont really think matters) But i hope you pick the right one.

p.s. getting a dog at the shelter is cheaper, and it saves a dogs life, so i would try the shelter ;) [ yoliv's advice column | Ask yoliv A Question ]

My brother adopted what was supposed to be small and it turned out huge. If you want a small dog and can afford around $100 try a lhasa apso. They are small and good natured. honu22 answered Friday July 7 2006, 6:40 pm: Please look into your local pound/humane society for another dog. They have puppies there regularly, and adoption isn't too expensive.
Also, why not get an older dog? They have already grown into their size and personality (so what you see is what you get). With a puppy, you have a bit more of a restless little animal who needs attention all the time.
Anyway, do a dog a favor and give it a good home by adoption! [ honu22's advice column | Ask honu22 A Question ]

Nallie answered Wednesday July 5 2006, 1:52 am: I am almost through my dog training classes, and breed selection is one of the topics I am studying. Any kind of terrier probably wouldn't be the greatest choice, because some of them tend to be territorial and hyper with other dogs. A dog that might do well, and is usually lovable is a Shi Tzu. They are unexpensive around here anyway, and the best part is they hardly shed and usually have a relaxed temperment.

Malteses are adorable dogs though that stay tiny, and are just soo sweet. If you want a cheap dog, you should get one at a pound or shelter. You'd be helping an animal who needs a home, and it wouldn't cost much. Try looking it up on google, like type in "puppies for sale in" and type in your state. Good luck with your new puppy!
