about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

I've had my cat for 10 years and I love him, but he suddenly started growing this tumor. And the poor thing probably won't live more than a few weeks but we don't want him to be in pain so we're putting him to sleep when he starts showing pain. I don't know if I want to be there when he is. My mom said I could go, but I don't know if I would want to see him then, but I don't know if I'll regret not going? Help?

It's good that you don't want to let him live in pain. Not everyone can make that most difficult decision.
I have been in this position many times as I used to take in old cats that no one else wanted. I will be facing it again soon I think, as I have a darling cat that is nearing the end of her days.
I always stay with them so that there is someone holding them that they know and love and that loves them, as they slip gently away. It's one of the hardest things you ever have to do but it's the last thing you can do for them.
There is no right answer to this. It has to be your decision as it's you that will have to live with it. Will you be able to cope without feeling guilty if you don't go? If you do go, will you be left with a memory you can't deal with? Try to think about both of these outcomes and see if one rests easier with you than the other.
I'm so sorry you have this in front of you and wish you all the best with whatever choice you make.

I have this assignment for my English class (related to Cyrano, if you've ever read it) where I have to somehow obtain 9 insults.

I've come up with one:

If Vogue ever does an ugly issue, you'd be on the front cover.

I am having a really hard time with these. If anyone can help, please do!

Oh, and no "your mom" jokes, and no fat jokes.

Please help; I've actually put in hours of sitting in front of a blank page.

Thank you!

I found this web site if it's of any help. It's a list of nose jokes from Roxanne.

eg. "Laugh and the world laughs with you; sneeze and it's goodbye Seattle."

"Ooh, what happened, did your parents lose a bet with God?"

"Say, does that thing there influence the tides?"

my only child is 2.5years old.i am from india and a housewife.she has recently begun to exhibit her temper tantrums by shrieking if she is told to do smthing against her wish and not listen even if we make her lovingly understand.she does not like to talk to any outsider and even with her dad.her only attachment is with me and always clings to me on every outing.she makes a lot of fuss in everyhing from brushing to sleeping at night.if scolded she hides herself.otherwise she is quite sensitive and curious.she has no good child of her age to play with and the neighbour's son of 3 yrs bullies her. what is the problem here?

Don't worry, you're both going through the 'terrible two's'. She has suddenly become aware of the world and it's a pretty scary place. You represent security and stability in her world as you are there all the time, and if her dad works, she won't usually have that same attachment for him.
As she has limited language, the most effective way she has of expressing herself and trying to get what she wants is in a tantrum. She has learned that she gets attention in this way. At that age any attention is good, even if it's a telling off. You could try ensuring she is safe and then let her get on with it. Don't let her know you are keeping an eye on her, if she thinks she does not have an audience she should stop. She is also going to learn from the way that you deal with her demands, so you will need to stay calm and explain to her what is happening, and try to remain consistant.
Shyness is quite natural as well, especially if she doesn't mix often with others of her age. See if there are any playgroups near you so that she learns to interact with others. The earlier this is done the better she will be able to cope with the world when she is older.
She sounds an intelligent child so she will want to find answers to everything. This can be encouraged in learning games. Energetic games have the advantage of tiring her so that less energy is put into the tantrums. Outings can be made into games as well, so if she is having fun, eg. in a safe area, by racing you to the next tree, lamp post, bench etc, this should distract her enough to forget about clinging to you. Try not to be worried about this behaviour, children are amazingly good at picking up on parental anxieties.
As for the boy next door, if he isn't helping her to develop and is actually holding her back, stop them being together. If possible, have a word with his mother, she may not be aware that there is a problem. As he is a little older than her, and a boy, he is probably just trying to exert some authority over her, but due to inexperience, it comes across as bullying.
I hope that is of some help, if you need any more, let me know, and good luck.

I want to be a film director and need to know whether you need to take drama as an option to do it. I thought maybe you could just take media and then go on to study specifically tv and film media, but you might need to take drama.

So, do you know?

I would think that drama gives you a good background knowledge of the subject. However, your drama teacher at school should know the answer to this one, or at least be able to guide you.
The other option would be to go to the websites of several universities to see which ones offer the course you are interested in, and what qualifications they expect. You may need to order a prospectus but it should give you an idea.

How do you properly remove ingrown toenails?

If you have ingrown toenails it would be better to let a chiropidist treat them. If you try it yourself you could cause an infection resulting in the loss of the nail.

i straighten my hair, so it tends to be kind of flat a lot. how can i add volume to my hair without using hair products? and if theres no way without hair products, what are some inexpensive products that really work?

thanks!

If you dry your hair whilst hanging your head upside down, that will add volume to it. If you also add some volumising mousse to just the roots that will help too.

Hello, I'm a fifteen year old female. I'm tall and thin but my stomach lately has gotten quite big. I haven't had any diet/exercise changes and I am quite sure it's not related to my period. I'm not pregnant seeing I haven't had sex.

With those ruled out, could it just be a normal teenage body change? And will I grow out of this within the next few years?

People have actually asked if I was expecting, and that is something I would prefer to not have asked.

Thanks! =)

Do you have any pain or discomfort with it? At your age it's probably a little late to put it down as puppy fat, although still possible. So if it's just in the abdominal area it may be worth getting yourself checked out by a doctor. It could be anything from simple gas or constipation to IBS etc.
No one is going to know without a medical examination, and the sooner this is done, the sooner you can get it dealt with.

Are there any products that get rid of stretch marks?

Stretch marks do not go away, ever. They will fade with time and take on a slightly silvery appearance, but that's it.
Cocoa butter etc may help speed this up by keeping the skin moisturised, but no one else will notice them as much as you so try not to worry too much.

Ok, as you will all find out, I am like the biggest Harry Potter Fan ever. I have read the series like at least 6 times. Anyways, I am re-reading the latest book 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' and I am inquiring if anybody knows who the prince is. I've read and re-read the book several times for the answer but cannot conclude to an answer. Does anybody know?

Also, what it the seventh book called, i missed the annoncement because i was on vacation. I know it's comming out July 7th 2007 but what is it called! I'm so going crazy about this! Please help, thanks. =]

I finished reading this book yesterday and can confirm that the previous reply is correct, the Half Blood Prince is Professor Snape.
His father, Tobias Snape, was a muggle and his mother, Eileen Prince, was a witch. This made him a half blood, which is where he got the name.
As to the seventh book, it is going to be called The Deathly Hallows and I've included a website that will give you a little advance information about it.

Why is it that the US Government prohibits flights directly from the US to Cuba? I know you can go to another country from the US and from there fly to Cuba, by why is direct flights from the US to Cuba not allowed?

The US Government do not approve of the Cuban Regime and have placed embargos, sanctions and pressures on them ever since the cold war some years ago now.

I have included a couple of websites to give you more information.

Hi, I'm a virgin(and I'm pretty sure about that) and I've never even kissed anyone before, recently I got a cold sore and I don't know where from. I researched what it was and it told me I had some kind of herpes infection- how did i get it then? Also I recently found out that I had little bumps around the head of my penis, and it looks somewhat similar to a picture of someone who has genital herpes. This is really wierd for me, and I don't know if it is what it is and I'm really embarrased. Please help. Thank you.

Mallamun is quite right, cold sores are a form of Herpes, Herpes Simplex Virus to be precise. Anyone can get them and you don't have to be sexually active.

I have added a website to give you a little more information.

What animals are the smartest, easiest to train and are loyal? I'm talking about pets, but no animals that would be to dangerous to keep.

Cats or birds from the parakeet family can be pretty smart, trainable and loyal, but it really depends on how much space, time and money you have. If all these are limited you would need to go for a smaller animal, like rabbits, hamsters, gerbils etc. Rats are probably the closest you'll get to what you need in this size.
However, whilst smaller animals may still be fairly smart and can be trainable they may not give you a high level of loyalty as it's not in their nature.
Any animal can be dangerous to some degree if they are handled badly or generally treated incorrectly. Whatever you decide on, make sure you read up on them first so that you know what they need from you and then you should be fine.

any glutne free tips??? i think i am alergic to it....but it may be ibs i get these exmtreme cramps it sucks

You definitely need to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. If you really do have an allergy to gluten (Coeliacs Disease) it is a rather serious condition. Your symptoms could also be caused by many other different things.

If you want information on gluten free tips, I would suggest asking vikki27. Being a Coeliac herself, she knows more about it than most.

i would really like to become a veggitarien. but i really like chicken.lol. so i dont know how to start being a veggitarien. i dont know how to still get protien. i really dont know much about it at all. i could really use some step by step help. and if anyones a veggitarien themselves i'd really love to talk to you about it. thank you.

I've been vegetarian for nearly twenty years. I get my protein from eggs, nuts, pulses etc.

I have included a few websites with more information and some recipes.

As long as you keep a healthy diet you shouldn't come to any harm at all. Although I would add that if you really can't give up meat, don't worry, maybe you're not supposed to be a veggie. It's not for everyone. Good luck.

I started my period for the first time on December 3, and it ended December 11. Also, i was supposed to start again on December 30, because it was 4 weeks later. However, i haven`t started yet, and it`s been a week. is it normal for 5 weeks and a day to be between my periods?
Thanks.

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. Periods are always erratic for at least the first couple of years. You may not get another for six months, it may happen next week. They will settle down to a pattern, but give them time. Just make sure you always have sanitary protection at home for when it's needed and you'll be fine.
