ok well during school i see some of my friends fingers and they have very thin, elegant fingers
on the otherhand.... my fingers are a somewhat wider than normal. If it helps, i'm a tall, skinny person and I play volleyball. could this be the reason?
what are some tips or advice on how to make my fingers look skinnier?
thx
You can't.
I have wide fingers too, so trust me, I wish there was a way. Unfortunately, aside from losing weight if one is overweight (which you don't seem to be), you're stuck with what you have.

I was wondering why you're not aloud to just take your medicine and that you always need to eat food before you take your medicine? Like if it's really serious, you don't have time to eat food, you gotta eat your medicine as soon as possible and hope it's working!
Generally, there is one of two reasons you're supposed to take it with food--to protect your liver, and to protect your stomach.
For medicine like Tylenol, having a little food in your stomach helps protect your liver from the direct effects of the medication. If you OD on Tylenol, for instance, it can eventually put you in liver failure--but that's not something to worry about provided you follow the directions.
Some medications also upset your stomach; food helps with that. On an empty stomach, you're more likely to notice a bit of nausea.
If it's once in awhile, it probably doesn't matter that much--for most medications. There are a few that can be very sensitive to change (I believe Effexor is one, but I could be wrong) and need to be taken very strictly, the same time and same way every day, but your doctor would know more about that than I would.
Basically, you should be fine with the majority of medications, assuming you don't make a habit of it.

can cutting yourself become an addiction?
Yes. Physically and mentally. You can get addicted to the endorphins your brain releases, and you can get emotionally addicted to the feeling of release that it gives you.
Very, very bad thing to get involved in.

I am lately itchy down there and it is really annoying. why am i itchy and what is wrong with me? Thanks in advance.
*Christie*
Well it depends--is it surface itchiness, or inside your vagina? If it's on your skin, it could be from shaving (if you shave), or using a new product (soap, shaving cream, body wash, etc.). If it's inside, it's probably an infection of some sort, which you should get checked out by a doctor.
[view]
ok, first of all, why the heck would anyone want to shave "downstairs"?!? are you suppost to? do guy's like it that way or something?
i'm just unsure, you see a lot of questions on here about shaving down there! any advice would be apreaciated,
p.s. i'm 15/f
thanks
I don't care what guys think. I care what I think. And I find that being shaved makes my period a bit . . . neater, for lack of a better word. Besides, I like the way it looks.
But what I, or anyone else, decides, doesn't, and shouldn't, affect you. To each her own.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of music do all of you here on Advicenators listen to.Also, why do you enjoy listening to it?
My reason for asking is because it seems like music is steadily going down the drain, and people have lost a sense of what good music actually is.
Huge variety of stuff for me. I listen to the almost totally unknowns, such as Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Voltaire, Faith & Disease, and so on. I listen to semi-known: Jakalope and Stars (both Canadian and both amazing). I listen to some pop music--Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos. I listen to some of the classics, like Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones. I love 80s hits (cheesy, I know). So yeah, bits of anything and everything.

i was shopping for dresses and they had reccomendations for certain body types. i realized that i have no idea what shape i am, because the descriptions are somewhat vague. I think there was an apple, hourglass, pear, and petite. I have a fuller top, a thinner waist, and somewhat larger, round hips and average sized legs.
thank you =))
Yup, I agree that you're probably an hourglass.
Apples are round, and they carry most of their weight around their middle. Hourglass are, well, they shape of an hour glass--small in the middle, and curving out on the top and bottom. Pears carry most of their weight on the bottom with a fairly small upper body. And petites are small all over.

hey guys.. i have a problem. My really close friend since 2 years has been cutting herslef and i only found out in September this year. I ALWAYS tell her to stop because its not good for her but she wont! I ask her why and she would never give me a straight answer or she would just change the subject. I recalled her saying that one of the reason she does it is because shes muslim and ever since 9/11 some people have been very racsit about it, saying that ALL musilm people are like that. She never tells me when something is bugging her and i really care for her but im not sure how i can help her. No, im not going to an older person about it because i know she doesnt want anyone to know abotu it. Her legs are really scarred from it. Can anyone give me any ideas of how i can convince her to stop? (BTW she doesnt listen to anyone when they tell her)
Thanks alot for listening and any advice is greatly appreciated.
-Krazy
Just because she doesn't want anyone to know, doesn't mean you shouldn't tell.
No matter how good a friend you are, this is something out of your control. She needs the help of a trained professional. It's possible she's also suffering from depression, which medicine could greatly help. You can't offer her therapy or medication, and that's the problem.
I really, really hope you tell someone.
In the meantime, maybe you can tell her some techniques people use to stop, like snapping an elastic band on their wrist, or even making herself slowly dwindle down to nothing: for instance, one cut per day, then one per two days, then two per week, and so on. There are many other websites with suggestions on how people can try and stop, and you might be able to tell her about some of those ideas.
Please, though, consider getting someone else involved. She's probably scared and even though she doesn't want anyone knowing, someone else can really be helpful. You can't solve this alone, and chances are, neither can she.

Hi,
I am reading Anthem by Ayn Rand and anyone whos read this please help.
I have a paper that I have to do and one question is
Why does the Council of Vocations assign Equality 7-2521 the job of Street Sweeper? Is it due to error, incompetence, or a more sinister motivation? Explain.
Thank you so much for your help!!
It's been years since I read this book, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.
I believe he was assigned that job because they were, basically, frightened of his intelligence. Squelching that intelligence will therefore stop him from developing methods, inventions, etc. that would put their supposed Utopian society at risk. Everyone in this era [in the book] is expected to be equal, hence the collective "We". Allowing one person to deviate from an assigned position, or interfere with the way the society currently exists, puts that very society in danger.
In other words, they didn't want him to rock the boat.

how do you get nail varnish to stay on longer?? bcoz i just put it on, but by this time tomorrow most of it would have come of!!
it's getting really annoying now!!
xxx
Base coats and top coats are your best friends.
They don't solve all your problems, but they definitely help. Use a base coat (specifically intended for that purpose--it should be labeled as such) first, then put on a thin layer of your polish. If it's too thin, put a second thin layer over it--staying in thin layers will help as well. Finish it off with a top coat, and make sure it dries completely.
Try to be careful not to bang them around too much. Every day (even twice, if you want), put a fresh layer of top coat on. You can also fill in any chips at this point.
It won't make it stay on perfectly forever, but it's definitely prolonged the life of my painted nails!

I am not a very bright person! Whenever I try to bring up a conversation, people always tell me that what I say either isn't right, or very "professional" but I try hard to make it sound that way. I am usually trying to sound that way at my job when I want to join in on a conversation my co-workers are having. And every time I do, they look at me really retarded and I am thinking to myself they must not think I am very smart. I don't think they have ever seen the "smart" side of me since I am always doing clutzy things at work, and trying to relate to what they are talking about. I hope that makes sense, so I am asking if anyone has any tips on how I can sound more professional without looking like a total idiot? Thanks.
[And if it helps] I am a very talkative person and the only way they talk to ME is if I start to mingle with them first.
I would like to start off by saying that you seem a lot brighter than many people I come across--you use proper grammar and punctuation, correct capitalisation, and you express yourself well. So when it comes to writing, you don't have a problem.
But I know from experience that writing doesn't always translate into speaking (I'm very shy in person, for instance, and I sometimes have trouble expressing myself). However, I doubt you seem remotely stupid.
It sounds like your co-workers are, to put it nicely, lacking manners. This is a reflection on them, not you; unfortunately that also means you can't fix them. You don't need to use big words or be a perfect speaker in order to be smart. You simply know what you're talking about and have confidence in yourself.
I wish there was a simple answer. But it sounds like these people are simply stuck-up jerks.
Don't put yourself down. Manners and intelligence (which I really, truly think you possess) are more important than a false sense of superiority.
I just wish there was something else I could do to help--I know reassurances probably weren't what you were looking for.

Ok so does anyone know if they have a movie about the columbine shootings??? or if they are making any or even any movies about school shooting if someone could help that would be great thanks a bunch
Elephant is also a movie about a school shooting, although it's not about the Columbine shootings. Degrassi: The Next Generation also has a two-part episode about a school shooting. I know it's not a movie, but I thought I'd at least mention it.

ok deos anyone know any good diet pills that work that you can buy at like walgreens or walmart or a drugstore?????
Diet pills don't work. So, no.
Several companies just had hefty fines levied against them BECAUSE their diet pills don't work. Don't fall for the tricks. You'll just be wasting your money.
Exercise. Eat right. You'll lose weight--the healthy way.

okay so this is weird...I think
A couple days ago I noticed one side of my vagina was a bit swollen ...and then I noticed there is this lump maybe a bit bigger than a pea on my inner labia(between my magor labia and minor labia)it didn't really hurt unless I touched it, and I thought it might be some odd grown in hair or something so I ignored it because I figured it would go away on its own.
Well today, I noticed it looked discolored...on one side there is like...faded black under the skin, and on the other side it looked like(gross, sorry) a pimple. Well this weirded me out MAGORLY and in the end I...I don't know...popped it I guess? Alot of(again, gross and sorry) puss came out and now its alot smaller, and it bleed a some. It still doesn't really hurt. Should I be worried about this? I would really REALLY rather not tell my mother. 15, not sexually active. Pleaaaseee help I'm worried!
Sounds like it probably WAS just an ingrown hair or pimple. I've had 'em before and they've never been anything to worry about. If I were you, I'd just keep a close eye on it. If it gets worse, get it checked out, or if it's really bothering you. Otherwise, wait and see.

tomorrow, im getting a blood test. the thing is, i HATE needles, and i HATE looking at the thing and seeing my blood, which means basically, i hate blood. and afterwards, i am paranoid for the whole day looking at where the needle went in, and i feel like its hurting, but im actually causing myself to FEEL like its hurting. i have no idea what to do to make myself lmore comfortable. any suggestions?
Oh boy, do I ever feel your pain.
Is there any place you can lie down when they're doing it? It might make you more comfortable during the process, although if you don't have any problems with light-headedness, it's probably not a big concern.
Definitely don't look at the needle. I did that once by accident--never, ever again.
You can get topical patches/creams that will numb the basic area, although probably not the skin underneath. I know someone who's had a lot of success with them. She uses Emla:
http://www.emla-us.com/
Find a way to distract yourself while they do it. If there are cracks in the wall, count them. Sing the national anthem to yourself. Chat with the nurse. Anything that won't leave your concentration fully on the needle.
For the rest of the day, try and keep yourself busy. Find things you can concentrate on, whether it's word problems, math, or just a good movie.
It does get easier. That much I can promise you. I used to throw up after I got my blood taken. Now I can generally sit up through it and feel fine afterwards (last time was an exception, but that's because I was tired and had to fast).
Good luck.

Are piercings in or out right now? If so, what kinds? (Cartlidge, nose, lip, eyebrown, belly button, etc.)
You're probably not going to like this answer. But it doesn't matter if they're in or out. What matters is if you want one. A piercing requires a lot of care. It's with you for life (in many cases, it can leave scar tissue behind even if you take out the jewelry). It's not something you do on a whim--nothing that alters your body should be done based on fashion, but rather personal desire.
That said, I don't know that piercings ever really go in or out of style. They're very much a personal thing.

How do you tease hair?
You call it names. ;0) Sorry; I couldn't resist.
No, seriously, it's just like those two said--comb it back toward your head. It can do major damage to your hair, though, so make sure you don't do it too often, and that you give it a nice thorough conditioning now and then. Otherwise you'll get split ends and other damage.

My average day, foodwise, consists of this: 2 pieces of wheat toast, cheese cubes, and coffee (breakfast.). Half peanut butter sandwhich, sunchips, granola (lunch). Chips and salsa (snack), Lean Cuisine veggie frozen meal (dinner). I drink a bottle and a half of water a day and treadmill for 30 minutes.
Any tips for changes I can make to lose 10 pounds quick? Healthy.
Replace the sunchips and chips and salsa with something healthier. The rest of your meal plan looks good--you might try low-fat cheese if you're not already, but having the cheese in general is a good idea.
You should be having more milk. Contrary to popular belief, it can help you lose weight. A cup of skim milk is only 90 calories.
Try incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet. Apples, bananas, melons, etc. are all good if you're craving sweets. Carrot sticks, celery, cucumber sticks, anything crunchy is good if you want something to munch on. Even salad dressing is okay if it's low-fat; Kraft makes an Italian dressing with only 5 calories per tablespoon.
You might also try replacing the coffee with orange juice or apple juice. It's healthier for you, especially if you put a lot of cream and sugar in your coffee. Besides, fruit is supposed to wake you up just as well as coffee.
But these have to be lifestyle changes, or you'll just gain all the weight back. And unfortunately, you can't do things too quickly, or again, you'll just gain it all back.
You might enjoy varying your exercise routine, too. Thirty minutes on a treadmill every day can get very boring! Take a walk around the block, play a game of badminton with a friend, even lift some weights. Change it up, and you'll also change which muscles you're working.
I am very pleased to see that you want to do this the healthy way. That's absolutely essential. Good luck.

any glutne free tips??? i think i am alergic to it....but it may be ibs i get these exmtreme cramps it sucks
You should definitely see a doctor. It might be a gluten allergy, it might be IBS, it might be Crohn's, it might be lactose intolerance, or it might be something entirely different. No one here can diagnose you.
If you're really determined not to go to the doctor, there should be some gluten-free products at your local grocery/health food store. Make sure to check all your food labels if you're trying to cut it out, and see if it helps. Alternatively, cut out a lot of what you're eating and if it stops, gradually introduce foods back into your diet to see what's causing the problem.
But really, your doctor is your best bet. Even if he or she has you do the same test, at least it will be supervised by a medical professional who can make sure you're getting your proper nutrients.
Good luck.
