Oh boy, do I ever feel your pain.

Is there any place you can lie down when they're doing it? It might make you more comfortable during the process, although if you don't have any problems with light-headedness, it's probably not a big concern.

Definitely don't look at the needle. I did that once by accident--never, ever again.

You can get topical patches/creams that will numb the basic area, although probably not the skin underneath. I know someone who's had a lot of success with them. She uses Emla:

Find a way to distract yourself while they do it. If there are cracks in the wall, count them. Sing the national anthem to yourself. Chat with the nurse. Anything that won't leave your concentration fully on the needle.

For the rest of the day, try and keep yourself busy. Find things you can concentrate on, whether it's word problems, math, or just a good movie.

It does get easier. That much I can promise you. I used to throw up after I got my blood taken. Now I can generally sit up through it and feel fine afterwards (last time was an exception, but that's because I was tired and had to fast).

Good luck.

Don't concentrate or think about the needle. If you just think about something happy, you end up not even feeling the needle. :]

i have the same problem with needles like when i had to get one done i pretty much ran out of the hospital but the best think to do is dont look at the needle and look the other way until there done if you look at it it will just hurt more but if you just look the other way you should just feel a little pinch and a little tingling

well the best you can do is just try your best to relax. maybe even listen to some music on an ipod if the doctor will let you. taking some sort of pill to help you relax may interfere with the blood test results so i wouldn't recommend that, unless you want to be forced into having another test done.

you should ask your parents to buy you some pills that help you relax. I hate planes, so i take some of these pillls (don't know what there calledd) and your deffenently not as fearful as things. But there basically pills sthat help you relaxx (not like sleeping pills) This is only a suggestion (i don't know whether you shouldn't take any sort of pills, but you should ask your parents/gaurdians,etc)

I hate needles too, i get shots and stuff a lot. The best thing you can do is not think about the needle before your appointment. if you keep thinking about it, itll keep controlling your mind. while you're in the waiting room keep yourself busy by getting caught up in a book or listening to your favorite songs on your iPod. Once you're getting it done take deep slow breaths, and dont panic or hesitate. do not at all look at the needle, ask the doctor whose giving the blood test to make sure he tells you when not to look when he takes the needle out, while its being done, don't get tense. just breathe. sing a song in your head. ask a family member to come in with you and talk to you. hope this helps
