I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues. Favourite quotes of the moment:
The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.
We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!
As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.
May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.
I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!
I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.
I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!
I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.
If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.
I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

if i move to england from the u.s. at say age 20, would i still be able to get an accent?
You would be able to pick up most of the accent but there would probably still be little signs that you're not a native to the country.
Americans, Australians etc who have come here to live, still have enough of their original accent for us to be able to hear where they are from. It also depends on how good you are at adapting, as some people who have been here for years still don't have a British accent. Then again, there is no actual British accent, we have different dialects from all around the country, as do you in the US.
But don't worry about it, we love to hear different accents and it's a great place to live.
I'm really interested in finding out...what's a rule that you've set for yourself that you plan to abide your whole life long? Just list any form of wisdom you could pass on. I love being inspired. Thank you!
I really like this one and it's something that I try to do each day. I don't know where it comes from, but it speaks to me.
Better.
The opportunity to make it better is everywhere if we choose to act.
Better is seeing a void and filling it.
Hearing a call and answering it.
Taking a wrong and making it right.
It’s as small as making boots, matches, or bread or as big as changing the world.
Better is giving employees paid time to serve.
Building a house, painting a school.
Empowering our youth.
Feeding the hungry.
Revitalising a community.
Better is a call to action, a rallying cry.
Fearless.
Determined.
Passionate.
And connected.
It is searching within – reaching out.
Heading into the eye of the storm.
Adventuring out into the middle of nowhere.
And doing so with a purpose.
So when the sun sets and we think about what tomorrow will bring, we understand that better is not what we do, it’s who we are.
i have tons of misquito bites on my legs for being outside a few nights ago. they itch like crazy! how can i get them to stop?
In the UK it is possible to buy a bite clicker, I don't know if you can get this where you are? It sends a small electrical charge through the bite and stops it from itching, very effective.
I have also found a website with other remedies for you to try.

sometimes I get this weird feeling where my vision gets all blurry then all i see is black and for about 5-10 seconds I can't see anything and my whole body gets like that prickly feeling that you get when a body part falls asleep, and sometimes my muscles like tremble (it's NOT an orgasm i assure you)
i have no clue why i'm like this.
it rarely happens, but when it does it's really weird
so just tell me what you think this is.
I doubt you will get an accurate diagnosis without seeing a doctor for a proper examination, you will only get guesses.
I suggest you make an appointment as soon as you can. It may be nothing serious, it may be something that needs attention. Do you really want to take that risk?
Okay, so we were asked in class to look up for interesting words with interesting etymologies(word origins). We have to find 30 and I've only managed to find 12.
What are some interesting, unfamiliar words and are there sites that I can visit?
Thanks in advance!
A word I love is discombobulated. It's very effective for describing feeling out of sorts for no particular reason. Very English.
I've attached a website with the origins and meanings of this word.

I work at a resort, as a housekeeper and dishwasher. I do dishwashing two days a week.
For some reason, I get severe back pain whenever I'm doing dishwashing. I've done some research, but a lot of the ideas they give don't really help me; I can't change my work surroundings, and I don't have the option of standing with one foot on a step stool, because I have to walk a lot.
Any ideas as to why my back is hurting so badly? And any tips (from someone with similar experience, preferably. I don't need research, since I already did that!) as to what to do to fix this? I'm in so much pain by the end of my 8 hour shift that I have trouble breathing!
You could try seeing a chiropractor or an osteopath to see if there is anything they can do to help. I've known many people with back problems, and after seeing one of these, things have improved greatly. Just ensure that if you do this, that they are fully qualified, and preferably find one on a recommendation from someone you know.
Do you wear flatish shoes for this job as this can affect posture causing pain? You could also try wearing a back support on the days you need to wash dishes. You could find these at an orthopedic specialist shop, or on line.
I've included a website with a picture so that you get the idea of what they look like. The prices vary.

I have a really good friend that I've been friends with for a good 4/5 years. I feel like I always want to be around her because she's just so amazing and i love her with all my heart. I'm not a lesbian or anything, she's just always there for me and I love her so much, she's amazing to me. The bad thing about this is when I look at our photos from the past and everything we use to do we did it together, like we were always together and everyone was like "nobody could break them up". Now we're still really good friends and we see each other a lot during the summer cause we're on the same soccer team. But when soccer's over were not going to see each other for like the whole school year because we don't have any classes together ..because let's just say I'm not as academically eligable as she is so I'm not in the advanced classes that she's in. What happened when we both went to high school was we were in NO classes together so we didn't see each other a lot so we started to drift apart. During the summer we're really close cause we're on the same soccer team but then when school starts I rarely see her and I'm afraid we're going to drift apart like we did in the beginning of freshman year (we're going into our sophomore year). I just don't know what to do, and please don't say "IF SHES A GOOD FRIEND THEN SHE WON'T DRIFT AWAY" because i really don't think she means to do it, i just wanna stay close to her because she's one of the best friends i've ever had, and i don't wanna lose her. I'm also afraid that this year she's going to find a new best friend that's smarter and more fun to be around. I know I should be happy for her but I'm afraid she'll forget about me :[
Thanks for reading this I really appreciate it.
People do change and adapt to new circumstances as they get older, but this does not mean that you will not be friends any more.
The fact that you still connect during the summer means that you still care for and about each other. That is something that is unlikely to be lost now after all this time.
However, due to these changes, even if you are not so close while you are still at school, it doesn't mean that you cannot rekindle your close bond at a later stage. You have history and lots of memories together, and that's something that will come to be increasingly precious as you get older.
She may find other friends, as may you, but there will always be that connection to bind you together. In years to come, you will both find that to be a wonderful support to help you through life's ups and downs. Also, keep in mind that spending some time apart will give you more experiences to talk about when you do see each other.
I suggest you talk to her during the summer about this, and share your concerns. You never know, she may be feeling the same. This should help you both to fully understand and appreciate the relationship you have with each other. It should also act as an incentive to keep the talk going at other times of the year. Make sure you both understand that you will both always be there for each other.
Don't worry about her finding someone smarter and more fun to be with. Intelligence is not a sign of being a good friend and if you weren't fun, I doubt your friendship would have lasted this long. Give her a chance to understand your worries, and take it from there.
Crystals? Crystallized stones?
Would they cost much?
I'd like to get some for someone. They collect them.
Depending on where you are, there may be a crystal shop near you. You can also buy them from ebay.
Prices vary from pennies to hundreds of pounds (cents to dollers), for the more rare specimens. Stones like Rose Quartz and Amethyst are very pretty, quite common and so quite cheap.
They also come as rough stones or tumbled. The tumbled ones are the shiny, smooth ones that show their colours more.
If it's for a collector, it's probably best to find out what they don't have and then try ebay, as this should be the cheaper option. The chances are that they will already have the more common stones, but you can never have too many. :)
im confused. princess diana was the princess of wales.. are there 2 princes/princesses/queens/kings that are in wales AND england? and who are they? so.. prince william is the prince of wales and queen elizabeth is still the queen of england? -confused-
Wales is a principality of Great Britain, (a principality is a small sovereign state), the title Prince of Wales was first given to Edward II in 1301. He was born in Wales and was supposedly given this title in an effort to unify the two countries in turbulent times. Since then, it has been the practice to name the future male heir to the British throne, Prince of Wales. It is not an heriditary title, it has to be conferred on the son in a ceremony called an Investiture. For the current Prince of Wales, this was carried out in 1969, by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in Caernarfon Castle, Wales, the birth place of Edward II.
The title Princess of Wales is an honourory name given to the wife of the Prince of Wales. Prince Charles and Princess Diana had two children, Prince William and Prince Harry. When Prince Charles becomes king, it is expected that he will make Prince William the new Prince of Wales.
This makes no difference to the fact that Queen Elizabeth remains Queen of Great Britain and all it's Dominions, of which Wales is just one.
As for how people originally became queens and kings, it goes back many centuries to the times when there were small tribes and chieftans all over the country. Over the years, the stronger chieftans built up tribes with greater numbers and followers. They then went to war with neighbours, if they won, they kept the territory and 'disposed' of the former chieftan. With the passing of centuries the main 'tribes' settled into three groups, Wessex, Mercia and Northumbria. There were other, smaller areas, but these were the biggest. By this time, the leaders were no longer called chieftans, they had raised themselves to the grand title of king.
Some more time passed and these kingships became united under one ruler. Then Wales was brought into the fold, followed by Scotland and Northern Ireland, then much later the Dominions.
So, people became kings initially because they were better fighters, had more followers and weapons than their enemies. This then lead to the thought that they ruled by the Divine Right of Kings, which meant they had been especially chosen by God, and were better than anyone else. However, this way of thinking was challenged at the start of the English Civil War, and by the end of it, the re-instated monarchy had no divination, with less power than before, and what they were left with has been gradually eroded over the years, until these days they are little more than figure heads.
I bought a plant called Astilbe Rhythm and it's the second plant I have bought that had started to discolour and die! The soil is moist and it's gets some sun light, but I feel I have killed it! Do I cut the leaves that have died? Or is it dead and it can't be fixed? Should I plant it in the ground? I'm very upset.
This website tells what you what to do with Astilbe's and when to do it. The main point seems to be, they need moist conditions, but there's lots of other tips as well. Hope you can save your plant.

Ok ive read things and it say that the 7th book is the last one. Is that really true I mean like wat are the odds that she'll make more? I know this sounds a bit selfish but I just can't believe that it's the last book.
Give your opinion.
Katiee
J K Rowling has said that the seventh will be the last book. She has also said that she wants to ensure that no one else will be able to write any follow ups to this.
Due to this and the lead up from previous books, my guess is that she will kill off Harry at the end of the final book.
does anyone know when the new season of degrassi is coming on? thanx!so excited!lol
Living in the UK I didn't know what this Degrassi was that people kept asking about, so I googled it. I found this website that has a Degrassi quiz on it. So if you're that much of a fan, I thought you might like to do the quiz.

anyone know any goodlucks
if you get me :S
In the UK, we say 'see a pin and pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck', as well as the penny saying.
We consider a black cat crossing our pathes as good luck as well.
Buying a sprig of heather from a Romany gypsy.
Seeing two magpies together.
Tying 3 chinese coins (the ones with the holes in the middle) together in a triangle with red thread, and keeping it in your purse, is supposed to bring financial luck.
my dad has a white growth? ball on the white of his eyeball. what is it?

However, if he has not seen an eye specialist about this, he really should, eye problems need to be taken seriously. If he has already done this, why not ask him what the diagnosis was? He should be pleased you are concerned about him.
Does using lemon juice in your hair damage your hair.
It can have a slightly drying effect on it, so you should ensure it is well washed out and follow it with a good conditioner.

my mom makes me crazy!!! we used to be bestfriends and now we fight over everything! she screamed at me for about 45 min today cause i took a shower in her bathroom and she always tells me to get out of her face and stuff. and she loves my bf more than me. she sides with him on everything.
my dad is just a jerk. he works so much hes barely home but he always yells at me when he is. he tells me im stupid and worthless... im an only child so it doesnt help. concrete angel by martina mcbride is my theme song.
someone please help me... i hate this
It sounds as though they are both really stressed out at the moment, possibly about money as your dad is working all the time? People do tend to lose their tempers more when they are worried about something.
Was your mum expecting to use her bathroom and didn't know you were in there? Did you take longer than you were supposed to? Did you tidy up after yourself? All possibilities that could add further stress to a relationship.
It could be that hormones are causing problems here as well. They make tempers shorter and everything can appear to be a lot more difficult to deal with.
I'm sure she can't love your boyfriend more but he may be able to throw some light on what's happening if they're that close. Talk to him first and see what he has to say, then talk to your mum. Wait until she has some time, make notes if you have to so that you get out everything you need to say. Maybe sit her down with a tea or coffee and tell her you don't want to fight anymore and ask if there are any family problems you're not aware of. If there are, you'd like to help.
If they see that you are approaching this in a mature way, they may open up to you and discuss any issues they are having to deal with.
hey is this cite a rascist cite coz i think so????????????????? i hate this, its sickening
I have not seen any evidence of racism, and trust me, if I did I would file an abuse report. It is not the sort of behaviour that is encouraged on this site. However, there are many columnists here that have their own opinions and conditioning, and this could sometimes come across in the wrong way.
If you feel you have witnessed anything of this nature I can only suggest you file an abuse report. I have included the link for you to do this, should you feel the need. A L2 moderator will look at the answers you report and make a judgement on whether they agree or not, then act accordingly. It's a good system and they are very fair. :)

Hey, I kinda need alot of help here.
My friend Christie has recently been in a car accident.. on Saturday night. She isnt hurt, but her head is pounding and she has bruises where the seatbelt was and where the air bag burnt her.
Her father is in critical condition, He broke both of his legs and his nose and he is very burnt.
While the collision happened, she was going 40 mph and the guy trying to pass a car in front of him was going 65 mph. It was a head on collision while the person trying to pass was over the double yellow line.
Christie's head is pounding, and I don't know what to say when she says "my head hurts.. it's pounding!" And I told her to go back to the hospital [she went saturday night after the accident, and they said it was just a head ach.] I told her to try to ice it, and just not go in heavy activity and she does anyways. Should she go back to the hospital? And after the told them her head hurts, they told her she probaly is in shock and its just a headach.
Thankyou
If she's been in a car accident and she sustained a head injury which is causing headaches several days later, she must go back to the hospital. Now!
It may only be shock and just a headache, but does she really want to take that chance? Better to go and get it checked out than to suffer and run the risk of something more serious.
I hope she and her father recovers soon.
During test and before it i get really stresssed and sick. I'm not a very immuned or strong girl, meaning i get sick(flu) easily. What are some things i can do to build up my immunity and relax me during stress time?
Take echinacea tablets and eat garlic to boost your immune system, schedule in time to relax, even if it's just a soak in the bath. Go to bed at a reasonable time, eat sensibly and drink lots of fluids. Fish oils have been found to boost the brains abilities to function, so you could try that as well. Ensure you wash your hands before putting anything in your mouth to avoid contamination from germs. Plan your revising so that you know what you are doing and when. Being organised can relieve some of the tension.
Stress lowers the immune system making you more vulnerable to infection. By taking more care of yourself at these times can help to avoid a build up that affects your health.
Good luck with your tests.
please dont post anything negative, i dont need negativite right now. i need something that will tell me that everything will be ok.
anyways. ahh i bleached my hair. and then dyed it back to brown.
does bleach wear off?? or do i have to wait until my natural hair grows back?
and also how long before the dye wears off??
i reallllly want my natural hair color again.
I'm sorry to say that bleach does not wear off, as the act of bleaching strips the hair of any colour.
The only way you can get your original colour back is to either wait for it to grow or to find the nearest dye to it and use that.
Whatever you do, if you ensure you use a good quality conditioner, preferably a protein one, it will help your hair to keep its strength and not break.
Don't worry, most of us have hair stories, give it some time.
