After spending about a year and a half on this website, I have decided to call it quits.
Most of the people on here are lovely but I think I misunderstood the purpose of this website. I thought it was a safe haven for teenagers to go to when they wanted honest answers that weren't the textbook excerps they would get from regular counselors.
I did not think that the answers I had would have to be sensored to suit the head moderators opinion of right and wrong.
Regardless of that, I will always stand by all the answers I have given. I will and have never "advertised" anything illegal or harmful but I have never closed the door on someone who was debating a potentially illegal or harmful situation.
I hope the advice I have given on this site has proven helpful to some and I hope that anyone who ventures to this website will find what they are seeking.
God bless you all :)

About Mara
Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

I'm doing a project in English & I need to have a book. I'm having a lot of trouble finding one so I was hoping someone could help me out.

I'm interested in books like "Go Ask Alice" & things about teenage things that I can relate to. It has to be around 300 pages. I don't want Gossip Girls or anything like that, so does anyone have any good suggestions?

Thank you so much. I'm going to the library tomorrow so help before then would be appriciated.

xostarbrightbaby has the right idea, Lovely Bones is a really great book and your teacher has probably heard of it too.
Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld is also a really good book. I thought it would be very Gossip Girl-esque but it wasn't anything like that at all.
The Perfect Age by Heather Skylar is also said to be a very good coming-of-age book but I haven't read it yet.
Catcher in the Rye is also amazing. Your teacher will really appreciate this one. It's a classic.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is my favourite book ever but it takes place in the Victorian Era.

Ive been smoking for aa while and I want to know, how do you make a smoke ring?! I really dont get it. and i would like to know if there are any mre cool tricks to do w/ cigs

I learned how to make smoke rings with this wesbite >
http://www.wikihow.com/Blow-Smoke-Rings
> but you shouldn't smoke cigs. I only blow them when I'm smoking a water pipe or a hooka and still not very often.
I'm not going to tell you how bad cigarettes are for you but if you start learning how to do tricks, it'll make it harder to quit and you'll be inhaling a lot more smoke.

Ok I am 17 and I am a really hardworker in school and usually at whatever I do, I try to do my best and work hard. Well I guess since the summer I have put in 15 applications to different places and I gotten like 2 interviews and nothing else after that. I need help. How can I make the managers want to hire me and how can I show them that even though I do not have any work experience that I can still do a really good job?

I work at a pretty nice retail store and I can tell you first hand that experience has nothing to do with it and neither does the season. If you're good enough, you'll get the job. Two weeks ago we hired a seventeen year old and a fifteen year old who have never worked a day in their lives just because they had the *it* factor and it's not like we're desperate for people, we get hundreds of resumes coming in all the time and we already had staff over what we needed.
First of all, you need to fix up your resume. I'll give you a link to what type of resume got me seven interviews and two job offers in fifteen days >
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/Imperialistic/Resumexxxxxx.jpg
> If you noticed. It's plain, fun and to the point. I added denim borders because they relate to retail and it's all one one page. Retail resumes should -never- take up more than one page (print double-sided if you really need to but avoid that too). You have a ton of information on one page and anyone who skims through it can pick up the basic points. When you hand in your resume, the manager will look over it. What are the things that jump out at you in my resume? I'm experienced (job and volunteering), I have leadership qualities (extracurriculars), I'm multilingual and the times I can work (so they don't have to spend time figuring out whether you'll even be getting any shifts). You can replace any part with awards you've won or the honour roll, or pretty much anything that makes you look good. Your resume is a pamphlet on you. Don't sell yourself short.
More important than the resume is the person who walks in. If a guy walks into the store and asks me if he can hand in his resume, I'll take the resume and throw it in the trash. Why? Because if she comes back, I won't even remember his face. There's nothing that stands out about him.
If I have a girl who comes in, greets me with a smile on his face, looks like she's happy to be there, asks for the manager and is willing to wait if she's busy or not mind if she's not there, chats me up and is generally bright and outgoing, I'll write a huge HIRE HER on the page and put it in the binder, or even leave it out if she's -really- good. A lot of it is in the attitude. If you remain upbeat, you will get the job for sure. If you're nervous, tell them you're nervous and tell them why (i.e. "I love this store, I'm kinda nervous because I really would love working here."). Act the same way on the interview and you will ace it.
It's honestly a packaged deal. A good resume and attitude will make up for any changes in the job market or for your lack of experience. You just need to convince the store that you are the one for them.

I'm looking for titles/authors of books that are about the history of the punk lifestyle, not just the music but the movements involved.

It's gonna be a gift for the guy I like, who's really into punk stuff.

Thanks in advance!

-Moi

Here's a bunch of books more or less related to the punk subculture and some of the types that emerged from it (i.e. goth, emo):
Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain
A Punk Manifesto by Greg Graffin
England's Dreaming: Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, and Beyond by Jon Savage < This is called "the book" for the history of Punk. Alot of it revolves around the Sex Pistols.
Punk: The Definitive Record of a Revolution by Stephen Colegrave
The Philosophy of Punk by Craig O'Hara < This book talks more about the philosophy than the actual history
From the Velvets to the Voidoids: The Birth of American Punk Rock and From the Velvets to the Voidoids: A Pre-Punk History for a Post-Punk World by Clinton Heylin < This starts getting into American punk
Punk Rock: So What?: The Cultural Legacy of Punk by Roger Sabin > This book is very detailed but directed to a more specific audience (i.e. someone who wants to reference it)

I'm going to a "freedom" themed party on friday, as its the end of our exams, and i need a costume idea - any suggestions? The theme is pretty "free", haha, any interpretation would be fine!
Thankyou!

Wear a flag of the United States of America. It's a free country.
Or dress up as the Statue of Liberty.
If you want something less patriotic, try a bird, maybe?

there is these 2 boys in my class and they stare at me and my friend all the time but they look me in the eye they deny that they like me online.but they wont talk to me in person its like theyre scared too.one of the boys talks to the other one about where they live but the other boy already knows where he lives.they also talk about other girls like trying to get me jealous or something he says " i wanna go out with " so and so but idk what hes tyring to do ... do you think he likes me ? or my friend what other signs would a boy do if they liked me ? my friend and i pass notes back and fourth and they try to look .. and what does that mean if boys call me "ugly" because i'm guessing some of them just say it because they like me ?

Yeah, they probably like you.
Boys at a young age are very immature and they'll probably harass you because that's a way for you to notice them.
So you should cut them some slack, they're just confused about their feelings. But don't let them get away with everything. If they do something particularly harmful, you should confront them and tell them to stop.
I remember that age. It was cute... but kind of annoying.

Okay, Beyonce lost 22 pounds in 14 days by using this diet consisting of lemon juice, water, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. And Jared Leto (30 Seconds to mars) lost 20 pounds in 10 days by the means of this diet as well. And one of my cousins tried this diet and she lost 18 pounds in 10 days.
I'm guessing that since my cousin tried this diet, it works. Has anyone tried or heard of thie fast/diet? I really want to try it. But how can you manage to live just off that and plain water and nothing else for ten days without fainting or something?

Oh god, that's brutal.
I'm not even going to start on how bad that is for you. You're cutting out all nutrition and getting rid of a tonne of muscle mass.
God forbid anyone on the diet starts gaining weight again (which they will) because they're going to gain way more than what they started off with unless they're planning on living off celery for the rest of their lives.

What is a real good hair conditioner that is sold?

I love my Bed Head Dumb Blonde conditioner. It's for anyone with coloured hair and can be used as a hair mask too. Their entire line is really nice actually, my friend has a the purple one, I think it's for curly hair. It's a salon conditioner so it's a little more expensive but definitely worth it.

Doesn't everyone tell you it's incredible stupid, dumb, and unhealthy to do drugs like weed and cocaine, etc? Then why on an ADVICE site does it have questions asking about drugs. No, not like educational things about them, like "Oh when i smoked weed I threw up, is this normal?". I was expecting every answer to be like "You shouldn't have smoked weed in this first place, these are drugs and they are unhealthy." But no the answers were more like encouraging the people to try it again and see what happens? What the heck? Is it ok to do drugs now?

You have a valid point but you know what? No matter what anyone says, some people will want to do drugs. Of course we could all respond with a "no no no, you shouldn't do drugs" but they already know that they shouldn't. This website is made for people to ask questions that they can't ask anyone else. You can give people all the advice in the world but they also need to learn from experience.
If someone asks what he or she should do before and after taking ecstasy at a rave to make sure they don't harm anyone, well sure, I'll tell them the dangers of the drug but I'll also tell them to keep hydrated and take breaks from dancing. Because you know what? If I don't tell them, who will? If they don't have the information available to them, they're going to start tripping and dancing the night away before passing out and potentially ODing. So yes, I tell them not to do it but at the same time, I take into consideration that a lot of kids are going to be doing it anyway. By all means, I'll tell them how to be safe but I'm definitely not going to be giving them tips on how to get a better high or anything.
And any question that you find on the board are the ones that moderators consider appropriate to answer so questions like "how much does a gram cost and how do I roll weed" aren't going to be approved and aren't expected to be answered.
When it comes to drugs like weed and alcohol. They're teenagers and I doubt anyone can convince teenagers to stop. All you can do is warn them and then give them advice on how to survive.
So if someone is vomiting up blood, I probably won't waste time telling them not to do it since they've already done it, I'll tell them they made a stupid choice (which they already also know) and make sure they stay alive.

Ok well I went to this carreer choosing site and like all my jobs are in the same areas and when I looked at education, every job needs the exact same classes. Only, all those classes (the extra electives) are my worst subjects and subjects that I hate. I don't want to pick those classes and just pick classes that I like but thsi is high school and you're supposed to pick school courses that will help you get to your job. But picking those classes i am possitive that i'd fail them and not pass high school. what should i do?

Take those classes and try extra hard to do good in them. There really isn't another way to go about it, I wish I could give you a shortcut buttons but that's your first lession in adult life. There are no buttons.

I want to put sme songs on to my bands' myspace musician page, but when I try to upload the song it says "must be MP3". What does that mean? The song is already in my iTunes library and it is a ".wav". Is there a way to convert the song so I can put it on my profile for people to listen to/add/etc.?

By the way its www.myspace.com/fightingdolphins

You'll have to turn it into an MP3 it by downloading something to convert it.
I remember downloading something free to do that but that was a while ago.
Try searching for a program:

i know this is kinda wierd
13/F
im trying 2 put in a tampon
maybe im 2 young? i dont no but i got the smallest kind they sell and lubricant (whatever that is) and im trying to put it in im folowing the directions but it hurts and im worried im doing somthing wrong because i stopped and it still hurts maybe its in the wrong hole? i dont know but is it suposed to hurt? and what can i do to make it actually go in and not hurt? thanx!

Don't worry, you're not too young. I used up an entire pack of tampons before I got one in right.
Usually it helps to be standing up and propping one leg on the toilet seat or something.
This website gives you step-by-step instructions on how to put one in:

ok well i have been noticing that alot of people have a small (TM) next to there name and i was wondering if anyone knows the code for it to put it on myspace.

â?¢
There, just copy that and paste it.
If it doesn't work, open Word.
Click Insert>Symbols>Special Characters. Find it and insert it on to the page and then copy and paste it.

Is there a very helpful site that could give me words that sound really effective with a New York accent? Such as, instead of mustard-mustid!! I need the accent for an audition.

You can also search for other accents on this website.

is pete wentz in a relationship?
I didn't know--but I saw this picture with him and this girl at a new year's party and she has her hand on his leg.

Any ideas who it is?

They're not dating. She's drunk and groping him. I do it all the time. Don't worry about it.

Ok, well sorry if this question is asked constanly.. but I was wondering, is there anyway to view my history on mysapce? Like to see who all has been to my site? I'm really curious to know. Someone posted a bulletin, but it was just some advertisement. If anyone could tell me, that'd be great! Thanks! =D

There's no way right now and don't get a tracker, they'll ban you for it.

okay this girl is talking about me behind my back and steeling my friends and all of that crap.
i need some good ideas for revenge. like stuff thats not obviouse that i did it. im already going to get a bunch of my friends from another school to send some hatemail over myspace and im thinking about creamcheese deoderant stuff.
any more ideas?
kaythanks

Oh no, honey. Revenge is not a good idea at all. If anything, it'll bite you in the ass when she figures out what you've done, and trust me, she will.
A better idea is to confront her and bitch her out for it. It's a proven technique. If someone ever says anything bad behind my back, I go up to them in front of a few people and chew them out. After that, they're too scared to do anything else and avoid contact with me.
I've only had one girl who continued to talk behind me and that's when I really went crazy on her and started yelling at her in the middle of a party with my friends present.
It's a lot of drama, but it's direct.
Even if you take revenge, she'll still talk behind your back and steal your friends.
Just go bitch at her, seriously.

Alright. So for whoever actually goes on advicenators, KEEP READING. Seriously, I REALLY need advice and I don't know who to talk to about it. I WILL RATE 5's for anybody who actually like tries to give a good- like really good answer. Okay this might be long but please. So, I need advice on a couple things, one of which is like at school, people call me a lezbo- WHICH I AM TOTALLY NOT. Like people (even popular) say it sometimes to my face, behind my back, or like say something kinda like "So make out with any hot girls lately" or something like "Yeah, you would look really good with all your hair chopped off- like a dyke", pretty much something like that in a really wise ass way. And I know from reading this you probably think I'm a total nerd, but I'm actually average. People are usually nice to my face but still, it really bugs me thats everyone once in a while people I don't even know, or do, talk about me and say stuff that they don't even know is true. I really would like for someone to help me GET OVER THIS and GET THIS TO STOP. It started last year so I really really want this to stop. I mean I would rather be known as a slut then a lezbo (no offense to anyone). I know I shouldn't care, but it's not something you can really not care about. I don't know maybe its because I never had a boyfriend (not like i don't want one, but that anyone who ever asks me out I don't want to go out with because either i don't know them, or they are one of my best friends) PLEASE! I really need advice, I get so upset about it. One more is, I really need help making new friends. Like I have about only three friends that I actually hang out with outside of school and act like myself around and then the other people are either from other towns or we only hang out once. I have like friends in school, but not the kind that you want to talk to on the computer or call or hang out with. I know its kind of pathetic, but I really do need to make new friends. I'm kid of shy at school and I know if I just acted like how I do around my normal friends (funny and like loud and around guys a total flirt) that I most likely could be in with the "popular kids". ha. yeah so all I want to do is have those rumors stop, and make a WHOLE new bunch of friends. One of my best friends,Casey, ALWAYS hangs out with me and kinda sorta follows me. Im pretty much her only friend because she NEVER talks in school. I really need to kinda of pull away from here because I'm spending all my time with her and not focusing on meeting new people&makin new friends.
Please help.!!!!

Aww, I totally know what you're going through. Rumors about hook ups with boys, lies about things happening at parties, are in no means appropriate in any discussion. High school is cruel, but I've never had anything said straight to my face so I guess I've had it lucky.
Being called a lesbian isn't a bad thing but being called that, as an insult is pretty bad.
First of all, there is probably a reason why they call you one. Try to pinpoint that out. Was there a rumor going on about you and someone? Did you do anything to make someone in the popular group "mad"? If it's something straight forward, just cut it at the root and the rumors will fade away. If there is one girl who is mainly the one insulting you, confront her.
If that isnâ??t the issue, the way to ease out of this is to make your orientation clear. If you dress like a boy, start dressing more like a girl. Start mentioning hot guys (celebrities or in real life) in conversations and stick a picture of a half-naked male actor in your locker, with a few pictures of your friends and clothed casts of movies you like. Make sure you do this slowly and be discreet, donâ??t t start talking about guys out of no where or it will seem like youâ??re trying too hard.
When people make jokes about you, be sure to rebut them. If anyone asks you if you've made out with a girl recently, just respond with a casual, "oh yeah, honey, don't you remember last weekend?"
If you think youâ??re an extrovert, you should totally act that way at school too. Donâ??t be afraid to let your own true self shine. And honestly, donâ??t try to be friends with those popular girls if theyâ??re calling you a dyke behind your back. If thatâ??s the type of popular girls they are, you donâ??t need them to be your friend because eventually theyâ??ll drag it up again when theyâ??re in a messy situation. Instead, open yourself up to new people. Join clubs and donâ??t be afraid to speak your mind whenever you feel like it. If you donâ??t have the confidence yet, fake the confidence and eventually, it will come. Just donâ??t leave all your other friends behind too. Iâ??ve gone through a lot of groups of friends, especially after I graduated, and I still party with people in high school sometimes even though I donâ??t spend every second of my spare time with them.
And donâ??t promise to give everyone 5s. Thatâ??s a good way to get your question deleted.
Good luck.

hey does anyone know this song? i think it was in a movie.

it goes::

i could be the one to drive you crazy,
i could love you but you're not my baby

thats all i know though. thanks.

It's in a Lifetime movie called She's Too Young. It's Made for TV and it's a production track which means that it has no represented artist and the song was made for the movie.
You best bet is to rent it and take a look at the credits to see who sang it and rip it off the DVD because chances are, you won't be able to find it online or on a CD.

which do you think is the best movie for a girl's 13th year old party?

- Epic Movie
- Happyfeet
- Dreamgirls

or have any others? I mean like.. movies that are out in the movie theatres now, not movies you can get on DVD or something.

kthnx. :]

Dreamgirls, it's very girly but has an actual plot line. It does get boring at times though.
