Making white rice more interesting

Question Posted Wednesday November 7 2007, 6:29 pm

What are some different ways to eat white rice? I've tried it with vinegar, but I'm wondering other ways. I eat it often but I get tired of eating it by itself or with soy sauce. I'm just curious as to how I can spice it up and make it more flavorful.

Put gravy over it. So say for instance you have Smothered Pork chops take the gravy from that and put it on the rice. Trust me it taste really good.... hoped that I could help thanks bye!

When you cook the white rice, instead of using regular water, use chicken broth, or add chicken flavor to the water. It turns out really yummy, try it with some butter, and a little bit of pepper, it's delicious. If you're into mexican dishes, I like to make some white rice, and put salsa in in, once it's been cooked, then I eat it with beans and cheese, or I squeeze a little bit of lime over it and eat it as it is. White rice is great because you really can do anything with it. Good luck and bon apetit! ~Angel

Two of the simplest things someone can do is to make rice with either red or black beans. AKA Red beans and Rice; and Moors and Christians respectively. You could get some frozen asian vegetables at most grocery stores and combine them with your rice. It will give you some variety and it's very simple.
If you were willing to get a bit more adventureous, i'd suggest jambalaya, spanish rice, shrimp creole served over rice is wonderful.

The only way I can stand it is with sugar and milk.
Just like eating cereal! You can also throw some fruit in it and eat it that way. Pineapple is my favorite. :)

Student living has taught me the wonders of white rice...

Add tuna (there's really good flavoured tuna out there) and teriyaki sauce.

Or, add ground beef and a bit of spaghetti sauce, and it's almost like spaghetti.

well you can always add some chicken to it. but other things would be like red peppers chopped up into it and maybe sauted(sp?) vegetables. you could always experiment with some different spices, too.

Add Chinese chicken [General Tso at Sam's Club or Costco] and steamed vegetables along with the sauce that comes with the chicken box.

Seriously- its pretty good- and I despise Chinese food =D.
