i'm not really religious at all. my family doesn't go to church or anything and one day my parents found out i don't really believe in god. and they kinda like freaked and said we're going to start going to church and stuff [we never did]/ k so i have some questions about all this religion stuff.
-who wrote the bible?
-i mean really how is it possible that theres some great god up in the sky?
-who all thought of this? like there had to be someone who came up with this?
-who created these so called sins?
-if being gay is a "sin", why did this god create them?
-how do people know anything of what they looked like or did?

Ashobi answered Sunday September 7 2008, 3:37 pm: Various people created the Bible. They were all given this task by God. THere is the posibillity because first of all how do you wake up in the morning, you do know that your lost when you sleep right? God could just let you die instead of tapping you on the eyes and waking you up. Actually it's been this way ssince the beginning. The Bible was in the Begining and had to be written on this earth by appointed humans. (Appointed and inspired by God) so that our human minds( unglorified minds) could understand and be saved. The other reason that God is real or as you put a great god in the sky, is because His word is true and can be proven by, as a matter of fact, if you turn on the news do a littl reasearch, get and NIV Bible, and A King James version you'll see that not only does the advice and encouragment in the Bible apply to our everyday lives but the Prophesy is true. Start with Matthew Chapter 24. I know it may seem like the wars have been going on since very close to the beginging but if you look and read other passages, get a study book for the Bible , you'll see what I am saying is true. Not only that if you check out a church with friends, then you'll see a whole lot of things from the Bible come to life before your very eyes this does not just happen in church it happens in other places too. God has put you on the Earth because you have a purpose and a service to Him. Your next question, human beings our selves. Because we did wrong it is a sin. We sin when we do things that go against our better judgment or what we know is right we sinned. Well God did not create us to be gay. he created us to be with our opposite sex.in the Bible it is considered a great wickedness. It's sick. Well if by they you mean people from the Bible they discovered artifacts and they really don't say what they looked like. The people who wrote the Bible wrote them on scrolls and some how God managed to keep them from destruction so that His later day Saints could could truly Worship and serve Him in spirit and in truth and keep His word. Let me know if you have any more questions I would be happy to answer them. It's what I'm here for. [ Ashobi's advice column | Ask Ashobi A Question ]
spookykiwi answered Thursday September 20 2007, 10:23 pm: This question is a bit old now..but I see a lot of answers which I believe are wrong and often times biased. So I'm saying mine too, if you're listening =]
1. Many many different followers of the christian god wrote the bible, though sometimes knowing exactly who the author of one section is can be disputed. Then after the original scrolls were written the bible was then translated english. If memory serves it was originally written in Hebrew. No language solidly translates into another - it has to be interpreted. Some people who study the bible believe it was wrongly translated at times, but I'll go more into that in a different answer.
2. I cannot answer that. I'm agnostic, which means I cannot disprove or prove the existence of god therefore I am without religion...but not athiest. In some ways my opinions can be seen as unbiased on this subject because of that. But I guess it comes down to faith..though I believe it is human nature to worship something or someone. Do what feels right.
3. People are always trying to come up with answers to what they don't understand. Think of mythology...those gods were created to explain everyday things like the sun rising...seasons...all things that can now be defined with science. What happened that sparked the christian god in particular? I cannot say. Perhaps there really is a god that inspires faith and hope, or maybe it is just mankind creating a REASON for them to have faith and to hope. Sometimes people just need to believe. But again, I do not know.
4. I think it was god that revealed himself to Moses causing him to write the ten commandments...but again, its all been translated(though they are pretty straight forward)
5. And this is where translation and interpretation come in. There are parts of the bible that call being gay a sin that could have been interpreted differently and mean something completely different. Also you have to take just about everything in the bible with a grain of salt - man wrote the bible. Yes, they were gods men...but is no man without sin? Also god does not hate gay people. Jesus even praised a gay man for his faith. AND it has been proven that sexuality starts in the womb and its all part of brain signals and biology. People do not choose it, and anyone who would say otherwise is misinformed. Also, animals that only take one mate in their entire life have been shown to take same sex partners. Did they choose their sexuality too? Yes, men and women were created to have children...but its not like gay couples dont biologically have children, they just have to do it scientifically or find a willing member of the opposite sex willing to impregnate them(or be the impregnate..-er.) In the end it comes down to the fact that a group of men and scholars got together a long time ago and translated those scrolls. It was a LONG time ago and in some cases descrimination ran high. If they could have translated a line one way or the other, and one way supported one of their own personal beliefs, what would they have picked?
-and I don't understand this question x] sorry. Jesus was described/painted, I'm sure.
And I hope I helped you haha this was kind of a long answer but I have strong opinions. There is NOTHING wrong with having religion...its when you let it run your life that its bad. If you decide to be christian, or spiritual, or whatever you like try to take the rules of the religion as a GUIDELINE. Something to be interpreted PERSONALLY. Bottom line is you are the only person that you are ever going to fully trust.
If you decided to be athiest, or even agnostic, I also invite you to keep an open mind and let people believe what they believe as long as they aren't being asses about it.
I hope this helped, maybe you could use some of the things I said to explain to your parents why you feel the way you do but also back it up with facts.
Oh, and this was written by a 16 year old girl in case you are wondering XD

1) God made the bible. but.. back then wayyy back people messed around with the bible and started writing all these things that werent true so the humans are the ones who wrote stuff that God didnt write..
2)God exists because you see how the moon the sun
the earth the people the plants the animals.. look around you do you think its just the "way of life" it is the way of life but dont you think somone MADE IT the way of life?
earth didnt make itself
because if it werent for God.. then this world would be nothing.. seeriously nothing.. hang in there because he does exist and dont listen to the people that tell you he doesnt.. because without God you wouldnt even be alive
here i am saying it again just to advise you
this world is nothing but a test.. and your being watched by God.
3) no one came up with this exept God...
Nobody knows how he was created one day the last day
the day of judgment God wil ltell us how he was brought up but you see thats why God sends us all these miracles.. and these miracles are to see if we are really gonna beleive him its a test.
4)again.. God made up sins like i said its all a test sins are for people who do bad stuff good deeds are for people that do good..
so thats why God made sins so we could learn from our mistakes
5)God created women and men so they could be together to have kids..

-well, once again, God deccided what were sins.
-God gave everyone free will. there's a story about this in Romans i think if you wanna look it up. He let people do as they pleased so that they themselves would find out what would happen.

skylalou_1 answered Saturday August 18 2007, 7:04 pm: well religion is all about faith.. what you believe in should be very important to you..
- Jesus' disciples wrote the bible..
- well.. again.. faith is what get's you places..
God thought of this all, he was here first, he's the begining and the end, the alpha and omega..
- the devil created the sins, 'cuz remember Satan tempted Eve to eat from the tree of Life that God plainly told her not to do..
- well God didn't create gay people, us humans did..in the begining God created Adam and eve, he created man and woman to be together not man and man or woman and woman..
- technicaly, we don't know everything that went on in the time before we were here on Earth, all we can go by is the bible that God has left us to read of him and his son in which his disciples wrote..
well, i'm a Christian, so I tried to answer these questions to the best of my ability so you would get to where I was coming from.. It's all up to you on whether you should believe in God or not, but if you wanted to try to learn more about this subject, maybe you should try and talk to your parents about going to Church and if ya, or you, like it then you can continue to learn about what your interested in. It's all up to you on whether you believe in God.. I hope this didn't sound like I was pushing you toward my religion b/c that wasn't what I meant to do, I was just giving you my advice.. but I would like to leave you a small piece of advice from me.... * would you rather live to the end times believing there's not a God and just die or believe there is a God and recieve the gift he's promised all of his people, eternal life with him and his son Jesus (*the one who died for our sins*) in Heaven, where there's gonna be no more tears or sorrows up there, but to live freely with them forever and ever...?? just a thought.. but write me back and tell me what you've decided to do, whether just continue to not have a religion or try the Church idea..but really i'd luv to hear from u again.... hope I helped * Skyla * [ skylalou_1's advice column | Ask skylalou_1 A Question ]
BitsandPieces answered Thursday August 16 2007, 1:19 pm: Seek and you will find...but don't stop finding. Answers are subjective, changing and rearranging. They will tell you God is not changing and that they have all the info. you need, but they are rationalizing and trying too hard. The idea of God is all they can give you, and everyone has different ideas about even the simplest thing, like vanilla ice-cream. There are "facts" about vanilla ice-cream, and opinions, but they are all about different vanilla ice-cream experiences and truths. How you feel and think about vanilla ice-cream and God is your business alone, and you are not going to Hell if you don't experience something the same as someone else. Are you sure you don't want to know the meaning of life, too? Your parents are taking you to church out of guilt...the reason most people go anyway. You need to keep your head and not throw away all your critical thinking skills. Faith can be a good thing, as long as you don't get into a groupthink mentality and start pretending you know everything just because you are around people under the same self-delusions. -Lots of people consisted in writing the bible, its been re-written quite a few times though...
-I guess it all has to do with your faith, because I can't tell you a reason why God exists, or why God doesn't exist, simply because I don't know.
-Many people tell me that Jesus told John and Mark what to write, but it was all back when and I'm not to sure of the exact person who wrote the bible, and came up with all the ideas, or if Jesus really did tell John and Mark (And all the other people who were supposed to have written the bible)
-I don't believe being gay is a sin. Also I don't see any where in the bible where it says that being gay is a sin.

idk who thought of it... it just was there, it was always there...
no one created sin, there just is sin.
i dont think it is a sin to be gay. i know gay people, they are really nice. i dont know why people have to think that its a sin!

xwishonstarsx answered Tuesday August 14 2007, 2:10 pm: Hi, I'm a new Christian, and I don't go to Church services. However, I do go to Youth and I've started to read the Bible.
I don't know much yet, but I would like to address this question:
"i mean really how is it possible that theres some great god up in the sky?"
I know it sounds really fantastic that there is a God...but think about all the other things which seem so incredible that they can't be true (yet are!). This is how I reasoned out God must exist.
1. Traveling into space and to other planets and the moon (space shuttles, rockets, all of that)... think about it: how amazing is it that we can millions and millions of miles at such high speeds, in just a matter of days? You don't personally know that it's true, that we can do so, but it's possible and you don't say, "Well, they aren't really going into space. They're just prentending."
2. History: it's written in books-- about the Romans, the Greeks, ancient times, ancient events. It's in a book. You don't know for a fact that it's correct, yet you trust in it. You believe that such things happened, for granted, that they just are. Yet you weren't there when Julius Caesar was asassinated, when the Civil War happened.
3. The longevity of the belief in God. It's been thousands of years, but people have believed that God existed. Can billions of people be wrong? Well, yes, but most falsehoods are corrected in this modern age.
4. Hope. Is it not a dreary thought that when you die, that's it? You're going into the ground. Your soul and your body just die and you are nothingness? Tbat you don't exist anymore after your 60 or 80 years of life? If these is no God, then what is life? You live, do whatever because it doesn't matter--you're going to die anyways. Life would feel meaningless without God.
And here is what I wrote in my journal concerning the matter:
"Learning more about God. I want to get into Heaven and know him. I started reading the Bible. Well I figured that God MUST exist; how else did the world just spring up? Bam? Humans just happen to reign over the other animals? We have such great mental capacity. I don't think billions of people can be wrong for so long about God existing. Why else do communist counries hate religion so much? Because it gives us hope, and it's real? This 19 year old, stepsister to a classmate of mine, died in a car accident. That young. I know we can't just die and that's it--that we're nothingness, just a body in the ground. Something else must happen. And that is God. I am so grateful to God for everything he has blessed me with. Just being alive."
This answer was very long and it didn't cover all of your questions. I hope it didn't offend you, but this is how I felt about it.
haloguy answered Tuesday August 14 2007, 3:36 am: many religious folks would tell you it was holy men who witnessed history and put it into words on a page. even if this was the case, the bible has been re-translated, and edited SO many times throughout history it's surprising anyone believes the things in it are true. For example, people talk about the virgin mary. In the old aromaic (the langauage spoken when jesus was alive) virgin literally means young girl, not someone who has never had sex. The church uses things like this to its advantage, and therefore the bible should not be taken nearly as seriously as it is.
I don't belive there's some grat god up in the sky, but anything's possible. One thing to think about is the fact that miracles seemed to stop right around the time when people could record history in detail. This indicates that there were no miracles, and people told stories about god intervening when he didn't.
I believe that in order to prevent chaos and create a system other than government for controlling people, religion was created. People aren't able to focus exclusively on knowledge and real life because a lot of people are idiots and need something to believe that doesn't require questioning or thought of any kind, and that in my opinion is why religion was created.
Being gay isn't wrong, it is a sin (but what does that count for anyway?), and it isn't normal. Then again having piercings isn't normal, but a lot of people have them and there's nothing necessarily wrong with them.
I know i'm a pessimist and kind of a non-believer, but please take into account at least some of what I said.
By the way, my family never goes to church either. I used to be a devout Lutheran, and I went to a Lutheran elementary school for 5 years until I finally questioned the things I was being told and realized how ridiculous a lot of it was. [ haloguy's advice column | Ask haloguy A Question ]

2tammy2 answered Tuesday August 14 2007, 1:57 am: ok im going to name your questions one by one:
in our now in day culture ppl want proof without solid proof they can see they wont believe it.
Religion of any kind dosent have any ligitimate proof that you can actually see other than a book such as a Bible.
1)40 different men which wrote all the different books of the Bible, though every word is inspired by God.
2)that is a pretty hard question to awnser, our brains cant really figure out how it is possible that their is a God, technichally God is not in the sky he is in heaven where no one on earth really know where it is, it's possible because God created the earth, i dont really know how to awnser this question
3)christianity is not man-made, no one came up with it, God created it, and so we can understand it he used men to write the Bible.
4)God made these sins, showing what is against him, things that make him angry.
God is perfect so he wants us to be like him, so he sent his son Jesus onto the cross so we can become clean, once we do that then God no longer sees our sin, now that dosent mean we can repent and do whatever we want afterwards or that shows we havent really commited or we need to rededicate ourselves.
5) God did not create gay people, it says in Romans 1 that God does allow ppl to do this, because he gives us free will to do what we want.
6) The Bible is pretty much the only proof we had.
note-these questions are very difficult to awnser and so i did not do a very good job, my advice to you is to pray to God and he will show himself to you, i would also read: The Case of Christ. [ 2tammy2's advice column | Ask 2tammy2 A Question ]
My-name-is-Rain answered Tuesday August 14 2007, 1:36 am: A lot of people were involved in writing the bible.
And, I think it's crap too.
Some of the stuff in the bible was for the good of mankind.
Like, in the old testament which, as you probably know, was written long before such thins as refrigerators), it says not to eat pork. This is because if pork is not refridgerated, and you eat it, you can get very sick. They put this in the bible, because if people thought God said it, they would obey.
But, being gay is not a sin. People say there is hard proof in the bible that being gay is a sin, the Jesus said so, blah blah blah. But he didn't, and it's not. And of course, there's the argument that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
But, honestly, I don't think God created anything, anyway.
But, okay, maybe God does exist.
But, if he did, the only reason Adam wasn't gay, was because God hadn't given him the option yet.
Okay, back to trying to answer your questions, here.
The concept of God really is beyond all logic, science, and reason.
But, the only reason the people that came up with God put God in the form of...and God, was so that the concept would be simple, enough for people to understand.
The people who thought the concept of God up actually had a grand, complicated, abstract idea, that had a lot of branches, and rules, and other ideas along with it.
