I work in the IT Department at my school. We reccomend Avast! anti-virus for virus purposes because of its constant and automatic updates, boot-scan ability, and easy user-interface.

For spyware/adware/malware removal we reccomend either Ad-Aware (by Lavasoft) or Microsoft Defender. The latter is the preferred choice, though it requires authentication of Windows and not everyone has a legit copy.

okay well i recommend NOD32 2.5 Control Center, im not sure how much you pay for it but i remember one day i got 2 viruses from popunders i didnt even click! i x-ed out of them and that's how i got them for some reason..anyways... as soon as my computer got them NOD32 2.5 control center came up and i deleted the viruses immediately,by simply clicking a button and it came up telling me that it was deleted, it eliminates spyware from coming without asking you what you want to allow. and basically it is what i think is the best and it also does deep cleaning scans and warns me when i need it and also has a 'log' which is like a diary of all the threats i had. i really recommend it.

First off, before you loose everything- copy all your information, reports, pictures, files, music, ect. Onto a blank CD, this will be your backup CD, just incase. If you don't know how, I don't know how either so have someone help you or learn how. TRUST ME IT WILL GIVE YOU EASE.

Next, about the antivirus, nothing thats free will work well. I recommend you get a 15 day free trial of norton anti virus. It only is good for one time. Download it and run it, and clean your computer!

Then use spybot search and destroy:

that should clear most of your malware.

System Restore
I did it for mine, my dad set it up for me because he de-bugs computers all the time where he works. You can restore your computer's health to a certain date of your choice.
Good luck!
Since I don't know how my dad did it, google it. IT WORKS VERY WELL! =]

Ok, I think you can protect your computer for free. If not in the long term, then in the short term.

Possibly the best anti virus out there is something called F- secure. Last I checked they gave you a 6 month trial. Im not sure if thats still the case, but you still get a trial. Anyway here it is:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Like I said, these guys won just about every award under the sun for their product. It does both spyware and viruses, and also it has an effective active shield (i.e. stops them as they come in rather than after they infected your computer).

Otherwise, for perfectly effective and totally free solutions try:
Avast antivirus
Ad-aware personal edition

just google both.

Should be no problem to clean your machine

LagunaBabe answered Tuesday February 20 2007, 7:41 pm:
I recommend SpySubtract, you can google it and download it for free. However, I hate to tell you this, but it may not work very well for you. Especially, if you have that many viruses. And if they contain a trogan or a worm, that's quite worse. What I suggest you do is format your hard drive, but that will cause you to lose all of your information.

However, if you do not do this -- the viruses may still stay on your computer. Some of them are extremely hard to get rid of, and some you cannot only if you format it. Which means, to clean your hard drive completely. And put everything back on. That is, what information you have on a CD, and other CD's you have. Such as your operating system (Windows XP, Vista, ME, 200, etc.)

pretty much no Free antivirus will help you out that much. especially with protecting with spyware. As for a paid protetion, I'd recommend Norton Antivirus. Its worked well for me for a few years actually.
