Question Posted Friday June 12 2009, 3:27 pm

ok this is a little wierd for me so please be open minded about this, i have a 13 year old daughter and well i need to know the age that girls start have periods i'm her father and only parent and i just don't know these things about girls, and also she said that she wanted to know what sex felt like and that someone told her that it would hurt at 13 years old, but i told her that she shouldn't think about things like that that she should wait until she got married but still she asked and it deserves an answer so i kinda need a womans advice on this because i'm clueless on either part, so please help, thanks

The age to get your period can range. Some girls start as young as 9, and some as old as 16. Sometimes even older, but that's a rare case. She'll probably be starting her period soon, and she'll let you know when. There's no need to be scared or worried. Just buy her some tampons or pads, & she should be fine. :) If you have any more questions about puberty for girls, you can go to www.beinggirl.com It'll give you all the information you need.

As for sex? It'll hurt no matter what age you lose your virginity at. Whether you're 13, 25, or 40. It's going to hurt. I think you gave her the right answer, BUT you're also right when you say she deserves to know. Just tell her it'll hurt no matter what age she's at, and that you suggest she waits a long time before she ever does it.

Your daughter is just curious & there's nothing wrong with that. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, you just have a different anatomy so these things are new. :)

Girls start their period ranging through ages 9-16, so our daughter will certainly be starting within the next few years.

As for sex, it hurts to loose your virginity regardless of what age you are. However, as her father, it is your job to educate her about safe sex and the emotional toll sex takes on the mind. Of course, it will be awkward, but it is extremely important. Urge her to wait, but remember that abstinence only sex-ed does not ALWAYS work.

12-16 is the average from my experience, but it can really start anywhere from 10-17 years old. Having pads around the house is a good idea. It's going to be awkward-- it's awkward with everybody-- and no girl really enjoys discussing it with her parents, whether it's her mom or dad. She might not want to talk about it at all, but pads are pretty simple to use, so I'd make sure they're around the house just in case she needs them. Try not to make a big deal about it! The worst thing is when my mom brings it up, I get all squirmy and uncomfortable. It happens to all girls, obviously, and it'll happen to her too :)

I have absolutely no experience with the sex thing, so I can't tell you anything useful about that.

Good luck!

Girls can start their periodes any where ususaly between the age of 9 and 16. At 13 it may be a good idea that you have pads in the house and maybe have her keep some in napsack or hand bag just incase she starts. If shes not regular (once a month aka every 28-30 days, for 4-7 days) at first thats okay. She could be iregular for the 1st 12 periodes or so.
As for the sex question, I'd just explain to her that women have hymens which is a layer of skin by the cervix and it often hurts when you 1st have intercours because it tears with penetration.
Hope this helps! and Good Luck :)

At your daughter's age, she should start carrying a sanitary pad around with her all the time, just in case she starts her period. You also want to tell her that a week of bleeding is normal but if it goes on for like 2 weeks, that's something she should tell you so you can take her to the doctor. My friends daughter had that happen to her. Anyway, the first time for a girl usually hurts a bit and sometimes there is a tiny bit of bleeding.
Your best bet dad is to be honest with her and fake being comfortable talking about it. lol. You need to tell her just like it is, that boys that age are more interested in her girly parts than her and make sure you say "I'm telling you this as a guy and not just your dad. I know what goes through guys minds at that age." Take her on practice dates. The respect you show her is how a guy should treat her. Please don't be a parent that assumes all kids are going to do it so just let them. Kids really do want their parents to be their parents. They might gripe and complain, but in the long run they'll respect you.
Also, let her know she's welcome to come and talk to you about ANYTHING. If you just blow her off with "you shouldn't be thinking about that" she'll go and get her info from someone else and that someone else may not be reliable.

girls usually get their period when they are around 100 lbs. i got mine at 11, since i was tall and had boobs then i was around that weight. all girls are different when it comes to it though. if she doesnt get it by the age of 16 you should see a doctor.

what sex feels like for a girl: if feels like someone diggin inside of you. personally i think sex feels good, but if youre little and young, it can really hurt and maybe even rip some of the skin up there. but all girls vaginas are shaped differently, width and depth. please tell her to wait, i lost my virginity when i was 14 and i really really regret it.

good luck! any other questions, feel free to ask

girls start their periods anywhere between 9 and 17. most girls are 10-13 though. so she should be getting it pretty soon if she hasn't already and if she doesn't get it by 17 i would suggest bringing her to a doctor. and for the sex part, at 13 years old her body isn't or near fully developed yet so i'm guessing it would be painful until she was older and more developed.

Lizard-Girl answered Friday June 12 2009, 3:55 pm:
ok gust so you know i am 18 female, and when mine first started i was 13 it started some time that year but each girl is diffrent but the majority of girls start at 13 so to help her like what my mom did for me was bought me some sanatary napkins (pads) gust regular. The best thing to do is to make sure she has some with her when she goes to school because their is no knowing when it could start but most teachers understand and will help out. As for the sex part I guess it depends on the person but she is only 13 so the best she should know as what i was told was that it would hurt at first and their will be a bit of blood but that is usually only the first time.

I hope this helps you
