What do you think the most spoken language is?
I'm taking a poll and I'm curious what people think the most spoken language is. Don't search the site or look at other people's answers and see. I want what YOU think.

Even though I'd probably instantly guess English because so many kids today in other countries are learning it, I'd have to go with Spanish or Chinese instead.
So many of us in America are taking Spanish and they've just started making Chinese Language classes so we can communicate for business ventures, and other things. So I'd go with Chinese or Spanish. I'd probably have to say more Chinese because it's such a large area with such a humongous (sp) population.

I am pretty sure that most people's MOTHER TONGUE (first language) is Mandarin Chinese, but if you're asking what is the most spoken in general, I'd say English.

are you asking about the most widely spoken language? that would be mandarin chinese. but english is the lingua franca... language of trade. a lot of people speak english, but more speak mandarin chinese.

I agree with WiseAl on this one, Chinese as a first language, English gets used a lot of places in a secondary capacity though.

I'm going to have to say English, because my italian teacher told us that in other countries the children take English as a class.

You asked for what I thought and I gave you what I thought, so yes, I'm positive. If I'm not allowed to search for it or look at what other people thought, of course I'm not going to be able to be very specific. I don't know what different kinds of Chinese there are off the top of my head, goodness.

This is a difficult one because you havent stated "as a first language". I am pretty sure that Chinese would feature as nr1 for first language. However, when looking at the overall "most spoken" (as a 2nd language as well)I would expect English to be nr1.
