replacement for soda

Question Posted Tuesday September 12 2006, 6:56 pm

I've tried to stop drinking soda but going without the caffeine gives me headache. I've cut down on it so now its only once in a while but does anyone know a way to cut it out completely and replace it with something else???

I grew up without being aloud to drink caffine, so I can't relate to being adictied to caffine. But I know what it is like to be adicted to other things. What I drink is mostly uncaffined soda like 7up, sprite, root beer, decaffined pepsi, 7up cherry, grape soda, orange soda, chubbys, ect. So drink those. Or if you want to cut back on overall all soda then sport drinks. I recomend propel SO good!

i would try aquafina's sparkling water. it has carbonated water in it so its like pop but its not. if you get headaches, its most likely not from not drinking caffeine. actually, you get headaches from caffeine usually. just take some tylenol if you get a headache.

hope i helped!

well for me it was never hard to begin with. i absolutely hate anything with fizz. but since i don't like soda what i drink is lots of water, at least twice a day i drink milk, and if there is some kind of juice (like apple juice or cranberry juice) i'll drink that.

and since your cutting out soda and you need some caffine, eat something that's got some sugar in it. or take medicine to cure the headaches.

i hope i helped :)

do exactly that. cut it out and substitute it with something else. thats the only way youll accomplish it. whatalot of people dont realize is that just like, coffee, or cigarettes, pop can be addicting. and if you dont break the habit fast enough, it can lead to stained teeth, and other down-sides that really arent worth it.

When I quit drinking soda, Jamba Juice, and other juices, smoothies, and teas became a big part of my life. There's got to be something out there you can drink that you love just as much as soda, good luck!

I really love drinking diet green tea, which comes in lots of different flavors these days. I think that the caffeine boost is perfect without add loads of extra sodium and calories in my diet.

You're getting headaches because of the caffeine coming out of your system. Stop drinking it completely, and you'll stop getting headaches.
A good replacement is gum or excessive mints. You really cant get addicted to that.
Also, a bad habit can be broken in 3 weeks.
If you go 3 weeks without it, you'll lose the craving for it.

Hey there;

I have this problem too, I can go up to 3-4 cans a day, even one before school because I thought I wouldn't be able to stay awake in class without it.

Here are a couple different methods to stopping the addition:
1) Ask your parents to STOP buying soda, this way thers no oppurtunity for you to drink any.

2) Day by day drink one less soda and one more bottle of water, this way you are getting more water into your system to flush out the toxins in soda. (It takes about 6 waters to make up for one can of soda)

3) Capris Sun, I grab those everytime I want a soda. They're fun to drink and easy to take with you.

Also:
-Water is more fun to drink thru a straw. Think about it, most people actually enjoy drinking water thru a straw, this may help you drink more water. Sounds crazy but its true.

-If you replace 3 cans of soda a day with water you can lose/keep off up to 5lbs a week for the first week or so. Then about 1-3lbs for a few weeks after that until you completley get rid of the soda.

Remember, old habits are hard to break.
So take it slow and don't be discouraged.
Good luck <3

Not that it will be TONS better, but, you could try iced tea or hot tea. You can put a little sugar in it if you want, but try not to overload. I would definitely just go to the store and look at all their drink mixes. There are many that have caffeine and are good tasting and everything too. Well, good luck and leave me a message if you need to!!

Sounds exactly like me. I have started drinking vitamin water the past month and ive pretty much become addicted to it. Before i started drinking vitamin water i would have around 5-6 20 oz bottles of soda a day. Yes alot of soda. If you dont like vitamin water try drinking flavored water. Trying to quit drinking soda is like trying to quit smoking. yea bad comparisson but go along with it. It takes a while to quit fully but youll get there if you continually drink something else.

hope this helps

Darling,
A little science lesson. Caffience is horrible for you, its almost like a drug, scratch that it IS a drug. When you drink caffeine all the time your body gets dependent on it, it stops making somethings that your body needs because the caffiene has tricked you body intothinking it doesn't have to do it anymore. It takes about 10 days for your body to completly not become dependent on caffience and start making those things your body is dependent on. Of course its only making a little bit at the end of the 10 days so it may be touch but for about a month your going to have to do without it. It may cause headaches and soemtimes you'll feel drowsy but you have to do this before your body starts causing itself trouble. You can take pills but they are bad and they take place of your addiction and you'll become dependent on some of the ingrediants in the pill so my best advice is to chew sugar free gum for about amonth. After that drink them about once a month if you truley need them after that. Don't drink them alot. They take about 10 minutes off you like, well every coke does! Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes!
Hoping I helped you,
Vennessa.
