Being yourself is the key my dear. You can't just say I wanna be a punk by putting on clothes and decorating your room. You can't just say I wanna be goth by buying black clothing and listening to Marilyn Manson. You can't just say I wanna be a rocker chick (dude) by buying a guitar and taking pics with it. You can't say I wanna be emo by buying stripes and "cutting" with paper.
About 89% of the people label themselves. About 75% of those people are labeled. About 4% out of the 89% people are truely what they say they are. And it's really hard because people don't get the concept. I've been labled emo, goth, metal head, punk, etc. And I don't go flaunting around saying "Oh my god. I'm emo/punk/goth/rocker chic. I'm fab. I'm cool. My clothes are rad." Because all thse things are not about what you wear. Not what you listen to...(partially is). Not what your room looks like. Not what you type. It's about understanding it. It's mostly about music. You can't go I like Metallica. *listens to music* I'm rock yo. No, because you don't look at the deeper meanings of the lyrics. I listen to My Chemical Romance. I'm emo. NO! You don't have a clue as to what they really mean. PEople find it "depressing and suicidal and random" No. They don't look at it. It has a deeper meaning. They are against suicide and drinking. You can't say I'm straight edge. I'm cool. No. Just because you odn't drink, smoke or do drugs doesn't necessarily means you're straight edge.
People frustrate me with these quesitons. Well hon this is what I have to say: It's not a fashion statement. It's a lifestyle. It's not about the clothes. It about who you are. What you've experienced. How much you understand the music. How much music, art, literature, photography means to you. Why you cut. Why everything. How much everything. If you think you've had bad experiences this is what I have to say: You don't know peace until you've been through hell. Many people thing this is soo depressing. Well for a lot of people it is peace. It's about your true feelings showing. Not about "Look, I'm wearing lbakc and converse. I'm emo/goth"
So basically what I'm saying is: Stik to who you are. Don't fit yourself into a mold because you like the outfits. And sweetie, you're asking online people what you should buy to be punk rock goth. You don't know what it means. You're not any of those. [ ductape_n_roses's advice column | Ask ductape_n_roses A Question ]
