ughh i can never sleep! it's because of my summer sleep schedual, so i'm trying to go to sleep every night a half hour earlier because school starts next week, but it doesn't make a difference. like, last night i watched tv til 1, read til 2(because i still wasnt tired,) and ended up falling asleep around 3. maybe after. nothing makes me tired, i even tried counting backwards from 100 like, 4 times. i told my mom and she was like well go to bed eariler, so i told her that doesnt work and she said to read, and i told her that doesn't work either, so she just like, walked away she doesnt listen to me. everr. so are there any ways that i can get tired? i want to be asleep for school by 11/11.30 pleasseee hellpp ?

instead of trying to go to bed earlier, wake up earlier so your body is used to waking up early. when you do that your body will be tired at night and you will be able to sleep very well. i had the same problem and that's exactly what i did. hope it helps (=

i have the same problem. it can be a real pain. this is what i usually try to do.
lay down about 15-30 minutes before you actually want to go to sleep and mull over everything. this way the thoughts won't bother you while you're trying to sleep.
listen to the radio, don't blast it. turn the volime down lower than you may usually have it. just concentrate on the song and the lyrics. and maybe sing along to keep your concentration on one thing so your thoughts don't get muddled.
or if you have a soothing sounds type thing, like the ocean or something. personally, the sounds don't work for me, but it has for other people.

good luck

This happens to me too, stop trying to go to bed so early, before the first day of school go to bed at 12:30 or 1ish if you go to bed earlier you won't be tired enough and it will be harder to fall asleep. Try to drink some warm milk before you go to bed it relaxs you and breath deeply (in and out) it will make you tired. You will be more tired the 2nd day of school than the first, because you are tired you will be able to fall asleep and normal time and your body will get into a better sleeping pattern. It works for me. Oh and don't stress out about getting to sleep it will just make it harder. What I do is get out of my bed and sit down and read then go back in my bed a try and sleep, just dont watch tv then. Anyway I hope this will work for you! Good luck!!

Well first of all, I have heard you shouldn't watch tv, go on the computer, or exercise a few hours before you go to bed, or it will stimulate your mind, so don't do any of those for the few hours before you go to bed. These foods are also known to make people sleepy, so maybe try eating them before you go to bed: milk, turkey, and peanuts (they help the brain produce serotonin, a chemical that helps you relax). Try drinking warm milk or eat a slice of toast with peanut butter or a bowl of cereal before bedtime. Plus, the warmth may temporarily increase your body temperature and the subsequent drop may hasten sleep. You can also try rituals for your body to get used to, like listening to SOFT music and sipping a cup of herbal tea. Don't drink too much caffine either. GOOD LUCK and remember, if you can't fall asleep on the first school night, don't worry! You are not alone (last year i didn't fall asleep until maybe 3 and my sister didn't fall asleep all night!) This is natural, and think about, you will be so tired the 2nd night, you will fall right to sleep!

I went through a patch just like this a couple of years ago - don't worry too much about it, because as soon as you're a few weeks into school you'll find that your body starts to get its act together and get you to sleep earlier as you're getting up earlier and working all day.

Speaking of working all day - do as much physical activity as you can during the day. This won't just tire out your body, your brain also plays a big part in exercise so it should become more able to shut down as well. Do you play any sport? If so, up the energy by playing it more or faster; get a few friends to join in so you're competing and working harder to play against them. If you don't do any sport and don't want to start, what about walking everywhere instead of going in the car? If you've got nowhere to walk to, just go on a walk for the hell of it! Ask to go do the food shopping (carrying heavy bags of food back to the house floors me every time)!

It sounds like you're making the right preparations to go to sleep - reading and watching tv will slow your heartbeat and relax your mind - but perhaps you've got all this leftover energy you haven't used during the daytime, so reading and tv just aren't enough to stop your head and body pounding away into the early hours. I'd say definitely get outside and move as much as you can all day!

Remember though. Sitting/lying down and resting isn't bad. Going to the couch/your bed at eleven and watching tv or reading still gives your body a chance to slow down and rest a bit, which is nearly as good as sleeping. And if you don't feel tired in the early hours of the morning, it's probably because your head and body aren't actually needing much sleep. You'll fall asleep when you need to - it's when you start becoming very tired and still unable to sleep that you may be developing the more serious insomnia.

Just as a last note - don't go eating anything after midnight. It'll just fuel you with more energy - especially if you're drinking fizzy drinks or eating quick-fix foods like chocolate or white bread. I find this really hard as food seems to taste a lot better at night-time, but resist! It's a lot easier to stop if you haven't got a full tank.
Hope it works out, best of luck! xxx

Hear a lot of music wearing on the earphones or if that doesn't work have your doctor give you some pills to be able to sleep without a problem.

Lay down between 10-1030pm. Dont read or watch tv those are just distractions that will cause you to stay up longer. If you just lay down youll get bored and fall asleep. If this doesnt work and you still dont get to bed till 2am then still wake up at 7am or around the time you will get up for school. Yes youll be tired but then you will sleep alot better that night. And youll be ready to wake up the next morning. But go to bed the same time every night. And on weekends dont stay up to late because itll screw your sleeping schedule up again.

Hope this helps
