I'm looking for some new books to read. I go through like a book a week, and I'm running out of books. I'm 15/F. I like fantasy/romance type books. Does anybody have any suggestion for any books/authors that are good?
the SHOPAHOLIC books by Sophie Kinsella are really cute and funny! The first one is called CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC. However, there are 5 in the series so far!
I also enjoy Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar.
Also, I really like books like Bel Canto, Harry Potter, & The IT Girl
Okay, so me and my school went to our One Act competition to do the play "Cut" by Ed Monk.
What we recieved that night was extremely unfair, and I want to hear if you think it's unfair too.
Our school isn't the richest, and all the schools we went up against have got money.
1. We got a STANDING ovation in the B division, and we were the only ones.
2. The judges ripped our piece apart in critiques.
3. A schools were INTIMIDATED by US in the B division before we even got on stage and afterwards, ALL of the schools absolutely LOVED us. LOVED us. We got so much support.
4. We went to the award ceremony. All of the schools got many awards. We recieved ONE award for comedy. Later we found out that 2 of our cast members got awards as well, but they "mysteriously" disappeared.
5. The final awards came and we didn't place. Our entire school was crying their eyes out, because we got singled out. It wasn't fair.
6. ALL of the schools came up to us and wondered why we didn't win or place, even the A schools.
7. Some guy called our director a dirtball.
This was truly unfair and I've never EVER been treated with so much disrespect in my life. Looks like only the schools care about us. It was unprofessional, unfair, and embarrassing.
Do you think it was unfair?
I do think that this seems very strange of the judges. If your school did a great job (and it sounds like you did), you should have been recognized for it. However, I did not see your play, & I don't really think anyone on advicenators can give you the type of answer you are looking for if the did not see your play. I am an actress myself, and I know it is hard to face rejection. You need to realize that these judges are trained to do what they do, and they may just be looking for something different, that most audience members may not be trained to look for. Also, keep in mind that there are some great movies in the theaters that get awful reviews, but people all over the country love anyways! So just because the judges didn't like your play does not mean they are always correct. I am sure your play was fantastic, and I don't think you sure worry too much about what the judges think. I know it;s hard to hear, and sometimes you disagree, but don't let them get you down!!

I would really love to be a model or an actress, but I need help getting an opportunity. My school's drama club and plays are casted soley by seniority, so I don't have a chance of getting in. If anyone knows of any open call auditions in the New York area, I would greatly appreciate it.

go here & on the left look under "Casting & Jobs"
then click "Job Listings"
im goin out with this kid and we were really good freinds before we went out and like he said that im too shy now. and i want to be more open but i don't no. it kinda feels weird now. but i really do like him. and after school hes expecting a kiss. a freanch kiss. and i want to but everyones like there. and i do want to give him one and show him i can be flirty an not shy
well i think you should try & act the way you did when you were friends with him. (i mean you should obviously be more flirty, but just be comfortable around him like ou used to be...imagine you are still friends & then just add in the grilfriend part)! also, i don't think you should kiss him infront of others just because he wants you to. if he is just in the relationship for kissing & showing you off to others, you may need to re-think your relationship. if you start french kissing in public that is called public display of affection or PDA, and it is very innappropriate! anyways, good luck!
For Valentines Day, I wanna burn my boyfriend a CD of love songs. Any ideas?

Like many people in high school living in a cold area, Im obsessed with summer. I cant wait. I look back at last summer (most amazing time of my life) and I want that so bad. I cant focus on anything but getting out of school and getting crazy. Is this normal or am I like the only one? Because none of my friends are as excited/anxious about summer as me. Theyre excited to go skiing..Anyway, I think I may have seasonal depression. What do I do about all this?!
you may have Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, also known as winter depression.
Treatments:
Light therapy has been shown to be effective in up to 85 per cent of diagnosed cases. That is, exposure, for up to four hours per day (average 1-2 hours) to very bright light, at least ten times the intensity of ordinary domestic lighting.
Ordinary light bulbs and fittings are not strong enough. Average domestic or office lighting emits an intensity of 200-500 lux but the minimum dose, necessary to treat SAD is 2500 lux, The intensity of a bright summer day can be 100,000 lux!
Light treatment should be used daily in Winter (and dull periods in summer) starting in early Autumn when the first symptoms appear. It consists of sitting two to three feet away from a specially designed light box, usually on a table, allowing the light to shine directly through the eyes.
The user can carry out normal activity such as reading, working, eating and knitting while stationary in front of the box. It is not necessary to stare at the light although it has been proved safe.
Treatment is usually effective within three or four days and the effect continues provided it is used every day. Tinted lenses, or any device that blocks the light to the retina of the eye, should not be worn,
Some light boxes emit higher intensity of light, up to 10,000 lux, which can cut treatment time down to half an hour a day.
Light boxes are not available on the NHS and have to be bought from specialist retailers; they are now free of VAT and start at less than £100.
SADA recommends trying before buying; several companies offer a home trial or hire scheme and SADA has a number of boxes for short-term hire.
Antidepressant drugs
Traditional antidepressant drugs such as tricyclics are not usually helpful for SAD as they exacerbate the sleepiness and lethargy that are symptoms of the illness. The non-sedative SSRI drugs such as sertraline (Lustral), paroxetine (Seroxat) and fluoxetine (Prozac) are effective in alleviating the depressive symptoms of SAD and combine well with light therapy.
Other psychotropic drugs e.g. lithium, benzodiazepines have not proved widely useful in the treatment of SAD. Daily exposure to as much natural daylight as possible, especially at midday, should help.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy, counselling or any complementary therapy which helps the sufferer to relax, accept their illness and cope with its limitations are extremely useful.
Please talk with a parent or a doctor before you do any of this though! Good luck!
I'm looking for a song about a guy and a girl who live a long distance apart and love each other so much and she misses him like crazy even though he's only been gone a little while. It would also be perfect if the song was about them loving each other but neither of them has said it yet, like they aren;t actually together, but they have strong feelings for each other. And she just wants to tell him.
I'd really really appreciate anyone who can help me. Thanks s0o0o0o0o much to anyone who can.
xx
A THOUSAND MILES by Vanessa Carlton
Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces passed
And I'm home bound
Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making my way
Through the crowd
And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder....
If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
Tonight
It's always times like these
When I think of you
And I wonder
If you ever
Think of me
'Cause everything's so wrong
And I don't belong
Living in your
Precious memories
'Cause I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder....
If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
Tonight
And I, I
Don't want to let you know
I, I
Drown in your memory
I, I
Don't want to let this go
I, I
Don't....
Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces passed
And I'm home bound
Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making my way
Through the crowd
And I still need you
And I still miss you
And now I wonder....
If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass us by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you...
If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
If I could
Just hold you

13/f. My mom brought me to her hairdresser saying how great she is. Well I've always wanted my hair down to my elbows but someone ALWAYS talks me into cutting it differently so I've NEVER had hair and longer past the sleeves on a short sleeve shirt. And I had sidebangs also, and my hair looked fine the awy it was.
Then she cuts my bangs across my forehead!! Relaly short! And she angled my hair and it looks TERRIBLE. My hair isnt even past my SHOULDERs now.
Everytime I look in the mirror I start crying, And I cant believe I let my mom talk me into this. I'm crying as I type this, I hate my hair so much. I can only wear my hair with a headband because I can't even pull it into a ponytail. And it looks horrible with nothing in it.
I donteven want to look at my self, I'm completely disgusted with it.
I dont even want to go to school tomorrow. Because some of my friends insult everything I do, so I try to avoid them but they still manage to insult me. I dont know what to do.
I need to know how to get myhair to grow FAST also. It cant be a ponytail because my hair doesnt work with a ponytail right now.Any shampoos that work REALLY WELL PLEASEE give me the name and where to get it. I want to get it today if possible, so nothing i have to order on the internet. I wanna start using it as soon as possible
you have already taken care of step 1 to getting your hair to grow - getting rid of all damaged ends. you probably did this when you got it cut.
step 2: Give yourself a head rush. increase circulation to your head. get more exercise so your heart is pumping. flip your head upside-down once a day, brushing your hair from roots to ends (use a natural boar bristle brush to prevent breakage). massage your scalp daily, using your fingertips. You can do this while you are shampooing or just sitting around watching TV.
step 3:Eat right.Hair can only stay long and healthy if you eat well-balanced meals. Foods rich in vitamin A (dairy products, fish, spinach, apricots), vitamin B (meat, fish, bananas, leafy green veggies), vitamin C (citrus, melon, tomatoes and potatoes) and vitamin E (nuts, broccoli, whole grains) are essential for truly healthy hair. Feel like eating a steak tonight? Perfect. Red meat is rich in iron and zinc, two nutrients proven to help your hair grow its fastest.
step 4:Stress less. Studies show that hair actually grows slower when you are stressed to the max. Your hair also needs a good night's sleep.
step 5:Keep your hair clean. Oily roots and product build-up can clog follicles and prevent your hair from growing as quickly as possible--the max is about a half-inch per month. So be sure to shampoo daily (or even more often if you work out) and give your hairbrush a weekly cleansing so you don't rebrush in old dirt and oil.
step 6:Be kind to your hair. The longer your hair is, the older it is. So treat it with the respect it deserves. When you lather up, use gentle shampoos formulated for your hair type. Treat your locks once a week to a leave-in conditioner or hair mask. And try to lay off your blow-dryer, hot curlers and flat iron as much as possible. Throwing your hair up in a ponytail to disguise growing-out layers? Be careful not to pull too tight--you'll risk breaking your hair.
step 7:Get regular trims. After eight weeks, your hair could be up to an inch longer. So don't leave all that hard-earned length on the salon floor. Ask your stylist to snip no more than an eighth of an inch, just to get rid of any split ends and end your above-the-shoulders hair rut forever.
with that said, your hair will not grow overnight, so here are some cute styles you can try for now!
clip your bangs back with bobby pins into a poof! then you can put the rest of your hair into a pony tail (or leave it down)!
another idea-
part your bangs to oneside, use hairspray to make them stay, & put the rest of your hair up!
does anybody know of any quotes/lyrics that say something along the lines of..
-you have to work hard for what you want
-willing to do whatever it takes to be the best
thanks =]
Good better best
Never take a rest
Until your good is better
And your better best.
i'm going to new york. (: (:
in marchh. & i've never been
there, but ive always wanted
to go. so i'm super excited.
ANYWAYS. what are some good hotels to stay on? like if i wanna go to chinatown? & stuff like that. & i wanna see broadway plays too. what are some fun things to do there? i think im staying there for like.. 3 or 4 days. [i'm missing 2 days of school] oh & good shopping places. (:
THINGS TO DO IN NYC:
I have seen a bunch of broadway shows & I suggest seeing Hairspray...it's so amazing!
I also suggest going to Little Italy to eat lunch or dinner...there are some really good Italian restaurants there!
Go to Time Square in the night, just to experience it, it is so amazing! Oh & you can go to Dylan's Candy Bar, which is a candy store owned by Ralph Lauren's daughter & it's a chocolate/candy lover's heaven)! http://www.dylanscandybar.com/
Go watch the skaters at The Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center (or go skating there yourself)!
Go to Chinatown & find designer knockoffs (you have to keep an eye out for someone selling them though, they hide them in backrooms, etc.)!
Go to SOHO, look at the art, and go SHOPPING!
Go to a museum or two...I know it sounds boring but it isn't & it's deffinetley part of the NYC experience.
Go to the top of the Empire State Building!!
Go on a boat ride to see the Statue of Liberty!
Go to Ellis Island, where all of the immagrants use to come from! It is so amazing & you can probably find a family memeber's name on the wall outside!
Go to South Street Seaport...great shopping & eating!
See the Radio City Rockettes!
HAVE THE BEST VACATION EVER!
last night i had some friends over and one of them took my fone and text my ex saying "i love you" now i dunno if he got it or not because he never answered but how am i supposed to explain that to him? he's not gonna believe that someone else wrote it, hes rather cocky and still thinks i have feelings for him, which i kinda do but thats besides the point. What should i do?
Text him again & tell him what happened. Make your friend tell him too...it seems rude that she did that & she needs to fix it.
i'm on i diet and i want to lose 20 lbs. what are a few healthy cereals without too much sugar and stuff like that, that i can eat every morning that are good for diets? please name a few because i get sick of eating the same cereal every morning, thanks!
Special K is good for loosing weight (it comes in different flavors too, such as strawberry, vanilla nut, berries & yogurt, & plain).
Quaker makes an oatmeal specifically for people watching their weight, called Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal. It comes in at least 3 flavors: Banana Bread,Maple & Brown Sugar, & Cinnamon.
GOOD LUCK!
I want to get DDR for PlayStation2 but my parents think it's stupid. I've got enough money to get all the equipement and everything but they won't let me. Is there any way I can convince them it's more than just a 'stupid arcade game'? Thanks.
DDR is great for exercise! Someone I know lost like 6 pounds from it. Tell your parents about how beneficial it is for your health & that you will get great exercise from it. Ask them this: would they rather you be sitting around on the couch with a controller playing other video games, or dancing & exercising while playing DDR?
GOOD LUCK, I HOPE YOU GET IT!
Hey everbody!! Well, I am 14/f and I really am wanting some really cool clothes and jewelry. I'm tired of wearing what everyone else wears.. Aeropostale and Hollister. Thats where pretty much ALL of my clothes are,and everyones clothes in school are. I want something cute, fun and flirty, and not just all labels. I also want something that no one else really has. something original and uniqe (sp?). Also, nothing too expensive, I'm not rich or anything. haha! but, anyways, if anyone knows where I can find some cute clothes please let me know. If this helps- I like all different colors, but I have dark brown hair, so something that looks good with my hair color. Also, I usually wear a Large or XL for shirts. I'm not really looking for jeans, just tops. And I also am looking for cool and pretty jewlry. But remember!- not too expensive!! Thanks!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK finding new clothing!!!!
is there anyway to shrink? Because I'm 6'1 and i'm only a freshman. and i'm too tall for all the boys in my grade. so, how do you shrink??
You can't just "shrink" but don't worry, boys your age are not done growing, so you won't always be too tall for all of the boys in your grade. Oh and here's an idea for you...you should try modeling! Being that tall makes you the PERFECT height to be a model, so give that a try! Oh and an idea...date a boy a few years older then you (a sophomore or a junior)! Since you are the girl, I don't think it's bad if you date an older boy (just not too old)!!
we're doing persuasive essays for english and i need some ideas for it. it has to be something that can be debated - that people can have different opinions about. like, no uniforms or more lineant(sp?) school board, or something like that. i already have one idea - fundraisers to raise money for school needs rather than asking for it from our parents. it's an okay topic but i would like other ideas.
greatly appreciated.
thanks!
well i don't know if this applies in your town, but in my town the high school & middle school starts earlier then the elementary schools...you can persuade them to (or not to) reverse the times these schools start (reasons for switch: older kids need more sleep, more refreshed & able to concentrate each day, etc.) (reasons against: older kids who have younger siblings need to be home for them in time, etc.)
other ideas - censorship of books, the amount of homework your recieve
I was curious, do many girls sleep in tampons? If you put a new one in right before bed then a new one right when you woke up would that be safe? When I sleep I wear a pad to avoid TSS risks, but since I do not sleep standing up, my period sometimes leaks out on my pj's and sheets which is quite embarressing.
Just curious how many people do it and how safe it is.
I am sorry, I don't know how many girls sleep with tampons in. However, I do not think it's safe unless you set an alarm clock to wake you up so you do not have it in for longer then 8 hours. and because 8 hours is the MAXIMUM you should have it in, i would set the alarm clock for even earlier, just to be safe. but personally, i would buy the extra long pads & sleep in those. Always makes super long pads & they also make overnight ones, so buy those (or ask your mom to).
hey,
I am having this awsome birthday party with a friend of mine. I had joined this play early on and i just found out they changed the date to the same day as my party!!!! My mom says I can't quit!!!!!! But the party really means alot to me and the play is causing too much conflict. What should I do?
help me please but i also don't want to be mean to the director
as someone who is involved in theatre, i know it is not right to drop out of the play. when you auditioned/started it you made a commitment and you cannot go back on your word, it's not fair to the rest of the cast. not only would it be mean to the director, you would be mean to the entire cast and REALLY let them down! change the date of your party! or do it at another time on the same day. if you are the one having the party, you have the power to change the date!!!!!!!
i am almost positive i have anorexia, as hard as that is for me to admit. i don't want to tell any of my friends or family, but i know i need help and i cant do it on my own. i went online and searched for help sites, or centers near me to help and i found nothing. the first step is to admit you have a problem, and i am doing that, but now i cant even get help. if you know of any web sites that will help me, sites to find a place near me, or can give me any other advice, i'd appreciate it.
PLEASE do not listen to the person below me (Nikker). Admitting that you have a problem is a good thing and just because you admitt it does not mean your not anorexic. Also, anoerexia DOES NOT just go away like they said...it can be in adults as well as teenagers (many celebirties, for example, who are not teenagers have it) therefore, it does not just disappear as you grow up, but instead can harm your body & kill you. Therefore, it is good you realize you need help. Talk to and adult (parent, guidance counsler, health teacher, doctor, or anybody else). if you don't feel comfortable doing that, call one of these:
National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders
847-831-3438, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, CST
National Eating Disorders Association

National Call Center for At-Risk Youth

PLEASE GET HELP, DO NOT ENDANGER YOURSELF AND YOUR LIFE. GOOD LUCK AND STAY STRONG!
I am a gurl who is 13. There is a problem..i sorta have a moustache and some of the people in my class make fun of me and say to the whole class that i do. It isnt really big or anything, just a little hair. is this normal?
DO NOT SHAVE IT! this is perfectly normal to have, but having will make it worse (darker and thicker). I suggest either getting a cream hair bleach, which will just lighten the hair so you can't see it (it works) or get a hair remover (not shavning, it just disolves the hair!) Try Sally Hansen products, you can find them at a drugstore like walgreens, or I am sure you can find them at walmart or a similar place.
