we're doing persuasive essays for english and i need some ideas for it. it has to be something that can be debated - that people can have different opinions about. like, no uniforms or more lineant(sp?) school board, or something like that. i already have one idea - fundraisers to raise money for school needs rather than asking for it from our parents. it's an okay topic but i would like other ideas.

Here's one. How about raising the eligibility grade requirements for participation in extra curricular activities. That will give you quite a debate if sports is a big thing at your school.
Fact: The school that I attended, and my child will be attending, only requires you to carry a D average in all classes. They want you to be able to play football and basketball. Because this school makes more money from the widely attended games compared to giving them an education. [ Brandi_S's advice column | Ask Brandi_S A Question ]

I once did a debatable issue on how PSSA testing is holding back subjects such as art and music. I had strong feelings about this issue because art is a passion of mine.
Other options could be school starting later - topics could be how teenagers don't get a full 8 hours of sleep and would be able to focus more if it started later because they go to sleep late. Smoking, abortions, government, President Bush, restrictions for students, maybe you could do a school rule and why it shouldn't even be a rule in the first place, tennagers getting a bad reputation from older people, cancer - why there shoudl be more research. Um, that's all I can think of right now.
esbeautiful1313 answered Tuesday January 9 2007, 10:20 pm: well i don't know if this applies in your town, but in my town the high school & middle school starts earlier then the elementary schools...you can persuade them to (or not to) reverse the times these schools start (reasons for switch: older kids need more sleep, more refreshed & able to concentrate each day, etc.) (reasons against: older kids who have younger siblings need to be home for them in time, etc.)
dorito0903 answered Tuesday January 9 2007, 10:03 pm: do something your passionate about, like maybe abortion, or the death penealty. if your passionate about the fundraisers thing, do that. but dont do something you dont care about, otherwise it will show up in our paper.
