The age that most children recognize looks and differences between themselves and others is 8-9 as this is the age that teasing starts to focus on looks.
By the way did the 3 yr. old have dysmorphia?? That is REALLY young!! Guess thats why she was on Oprah eh!
Gracie101 answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 6:23 pm: First of all you should never be worried about your looks. Always be confortable in your own skin. Some girls get obsessed with their looks during their ( change ) becasue other girls advance faster. Dont worry about it you should just believe in your self. But if you really need a straight answer some girls start in thier teen age years but it varies. [ Gracie101's advice column | Ask Gracie101 A Question ]

orphans answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 4:27 pm: I actually think it's when they start middle school. Well, for girls anyway, guys probably don't care until maybe 8th grade but I wouldn't know.
I remember when I stared middle school, all the older girls (7th and 8th graders) looked so much older and put together. I didn't wear make up in 6th grade and I still shopped at Limited Too so my clothes were all girly and kiddish. So all the 6th grade girls would look up to them and be like *they look so cool* and try acting like them. Like, compare their height and weight to the older girls and pay more attention to make up and clothes. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
ifonlytheskywasgreen answered Wednesday August 16 2006, 4:13 pm: It usually happens when the person becomes a teenager, or when their hormones start acting up. They notice the opposite sex, and start to be concerned with how they look. I started to car when I was a teeanger, maybe 13 or 14. But I never was obsessed about it.
