you can
1) refuse to feed the dogs human food and leave out dry food. They will eat it eventually

2)Mix dry food with human food (scrambled eggs or raw potatos) and everyday put less and less human food in the bowl. eventuall there will be none in there

I can relate with you so much. My dod eats human food and does eat her food.

1. Stop feeding your dog's human food.
2. Leave dry food out for your dogs to eat.
3. When it begs, scold.
4. Praise if it eats good human food.

My dog eats human food first, and then saves her food last.

Within a few weeks, they'll be attached.

Well, don't feed them human food anymore. Not one single scrap and I mean it. They will have no choice but to eat their food. Or your famiy can eat out a little more. If that doesn't work than I would research dog training tips. You can never go wrong with Google!

First I wanted to say Never feed your dog a vegan diet. There are nutrients in meat and meat products that animals need in order to live and grow properly.

Secondly, stop feeding your animals food from the table. Just stop. :)

But, to ease them back into a regular diet of dog food, put bits of people food into their dog food. Try putting half dog food, half people food. Then, next week, put one quarter people food, three quarters dog food. Slowly take away the people food and add more dog food, so that you trick them into eating just dog food.

People food is way too loaded with calories and fat for a dog. Dog obesity is a huge problem, it can lead to many dangerous and expensive health problems.

After you get your dog back to eating just dog food, make sure you never feed them table scraps again. And, make sure you tell everyone else that in your house. Like everyone else said, a dog will not starve itself unless there is an underlying health issue, but, if you slowly add back the dog food in his diet, it will make it easier on you and him.

You should also get your dog into normal eating patterns. Say, if you feed your dog at 9, and he hasn't finished his food by 10, pick up his bowl and then, when you feed him again at lunch or dinner, only feed him his normal portion. Don't double up because he missed a meal.

This also ensures that he'll be less picky about what he eats. It will make him realize that if he doesn't eat what's in front of him, he's not going to get anything better.

Just stop feeding him table scraps and he'll be much happier and healthier and will live a longer life.

Dogs will not starve themselves. Dont feed them anymore table scraps. When they get hungry enough, they will eat dog food. It may take a few days but they WILL EAT IT! I managed a pet store for 6 years, trust me! Also, what type of dog food are you offering them? If it is a cheap brand, it's high in salt and not a good source of nutrition in general. Stick with a good quality food (Nutra Max, Diamond, Pro Plan, etc) Get a lamb and rice brand. Dogs eat by smell, the worse it smells, the more they like it. Lamb has a strong smell. You can also LIGHTLY moisten the food and stick it in the microwave for approx 30 seconds. This brings the oils to the surface & makes it smell better. Lastly, you can get canned food - GOOD QUALITY! (Canned food is mostly water and so not much nutritional content and cause the runs) and mix 2-3 tbls in with the food until they get the idea. The key here is, stay strong, dont waver, THEY WILL NOT STARVE! Good luck!

its ok to feed them from off the table. the reason they keep coming to you though, is cuz they know that you will feed them.

just feed them occasionally from the table, and they WILL eat their dog food. thats what happens with my dog; she eats chicken at night if we have some, but then after a few hours, realizing shes still hungry, she goes and eats her own food

i know exactly where you are coming from,my dog did the same thing.for one thing you just need to stop all together giving him any kind of people food.also you could get that weird "iams savory sauce" stuff to add to there food.eventually they will eat there own food when they relize no one is getting them anything no matter how much they beg and that they are super hungry.hope i helped :]

Look at it this way, you are killing your dogs with kindness.

First of all, no dog unless it is sick will starve it's self to death when dog food is available.

It doesn't sound like your dogs even have to work for the food. In the wild, they do. Take on the attitude for the dogs that nothing in life is free!

If your dogs will drink water, and refuse to eat for a few days because you took away the table food, nothing bad is going to happen to them. My suggestion is, instead of cooking them a meal take them for a walk (give them a little work to do) then when you get home, give them their dog food. If they don't eat it in 15 minutes, take it away and try again at the next meal time. If you allow them to freely feed on the food, and leave it in the bowl...it's not as important to them as if you give them some physical activity first.

This make take a few days, but eventually they will eat the dog food, I promise!

well to try to get your dog to eat dog food you could put down the dog food and mix it with table food that way the dog eats both . And little bye little remove the table food from the dog food. If u havent already tryed this you could just leave the dog food on the floor and never give them any table food again. Dogs won't starve themselves so they will have to eat the dog food (i am not positive just leaving it ther will work though , they might just beg until you give them table food)

well you should have never gave them table food in the first place.. thats what happen

basically all you can do is stop feeding them table food.. eventually they will get hungry enough and will eat their food.. they may not eat for several days but enventually they will figure it out.. just don't give in.. they are like little kids.. they will pressure you and make you think that they are staving and need it but acually they can go over 2 weeks without food and still be fine.. so when they get that hungry they will eat

if they dont like just plain dog food either buy the moist packets of stuff and mix ti with that or cheap oatmeal or baby food. thats what i do.

Your stranded on a island. You can only eat the biggest bestest tasting steak there is...or a pop tart. Your going to want the steak. BUT, if you only had to eat pop-tarts, you wouldn't starve yourself and refuse to eat it, if it's all you had. My point is your dogs are spoiled! Just set them out only dog food and while it may take a day or so, they will eventually start back eating it. I had the same problem with my dog. Once I introduced her to McDonalds french fries, she wanted nothing but. I had to stop that though because she was getting WAY to fat for a dog that full grown, should only way 12 pounds. I started putting out the healthiest dog food for her and within 24 hours she was eating it.

Ok the suggestions that the others made are great. I just wanted to add that dogs will eventually eat the stuff. If you have the heart for it then just leave out only dog food. Believe me your dogs will not starve to death. They only refuse it as long as they think there is a chance to get something else. So far I am guessing so far the humans caved in... dogs are great opportunists arent they?

Otherwise, mixing dog food into regular food and gradually shifting the mix in favour of the dog food should work. Or if you make anything with meat try soaking the stuff in some of the sauce or something like that.

However, much easier is option one (tough love). You just have to be strong :)

Btw, what kind of dog eats three meals a day? Im just curious...

TEENAGExHEARTS answered Thursday August 3 2006, 4:37 pm:
well you can try adding a little water to the dog food then warming it up and make it like a mush. that way it reseambles human food a little more. you can also try sprinkling parmesan cheese on top of the food. i have also known dogs that like tomatoes, so try adding some tomatoe juice to the food.

GOOD LUCK!

you can also ask your vet about it :]

Moop answered Thursday August 3 2006, 4:22 pm:
you might want to try feeding them a vegan or vegetarian diet. some dogs are naturally disposed to this type of diet and will refuse animal products. check out vegancats.com for foods you can try and feed your dog (it's not just a cat site). gradually you can mix regular dog food into the vegan dog food if you are concerned about the price of vegan dog food.
