Braces

Question Posted Tuesday August 1 2006, 9:25 pm

I just got braces three days ago [I had them before when I was in second grade] However, I'm in intense pain! I can't eat anything, even soft foods like soft taco's hurt like crazy, and pasta! I'm on Tylenol, I ice my mouth several times a day, I use the bite plate they gave me, and I put on Orajel. But it still hurts so bad, What should I do?

I'm so sorry!
If the pain doesn't clear up in another day or two, you should go back and make them loosen the wires.
Or next time you go, ask them to be a little more gradual with the tightening. My pain never lasted more than 2 days, and that's because my ortho takes it slow and makes transitions gradually. So don't be afraid to ask them to slow it down a little.

You know how the ortho tell you not to chew gum? well im telling you to chew it it losens up your braces and takes away almost all the pain but only chew enough to keep your braces loose or you'll start breaking brackets .. trust me.

I just got braces 2 months ago. And i was in the exact same position you were in. It took me almost a week before i could eat things again like pasta, and tacos. But the pain will eventually go away! Trust me. Like the columnists before me had said try not to think about it and eat soft things like putting, and jello. Thats all i could eat for about a week. But after that you should be back to normal! Until you get the tightened which sucks! Hope i helped.

well, if your in a lot of pain, just try not to think about it and make sure you take lots of medicine to help keep down the pain. the more you think about something, the bigger of a deal it seems to be. if you dont think about your pain and try to do something else that you really enjoy, then maybe that might take your mind off of it for a while. and with the eating, just try gushy things, like jell-o or pudding; things like that. i hope i helped a little! =]

take advil or motrin.
be sure to use brace wax which the probably gave you.
if the pain continues for more thna a week call your orthodontist.
also when i had my braces on i found its best for the first week if you dont eat alot of bread.
try...
rice
pasta
soup
yougurt
pudding
jello
icecream

Wow been there! Did they not tell you that ibuprophen is best for pain (motrin/advil) also what worked for me was, I took 1 advil and 1 tylenol the combo worked great for me. Sounds weird but hey its worth a shot. Also if the pain lasts more then 6-7 days call your orthodontist and tell him they could be too tight or something else could be wrong. Discomfort and some pain is normal major pain is not!

Good Luck and keeping busy and your mind off the pain helps a little.

I'd take mortin or something. Honestly though, you'll get used to the braces. They'll hurt at first but after a while you won't feel them. If they're strating to cut into the sides of your mouth though, I'd for sure use the hard wax they gave you. (I hope they gave it to you) I'd at foods like mashed potatos, ice cream, and smoothies. I'd also drink hot tea.

I just got my braces off :D. But anyways to ur question...try using wax, I don't know if your orthodontist gave you some, but it really helped me. If you need some, just buy some at the store, or ask your dentist or orthodontist if they have any. It will help ease the pain on your gums and cheecks. Hope I helped.

ohh my goodness, sweetie, i'm sorry you're braces are hurting you that much. i have never had braces but it sounds like i don't want to have braces either. lol. even though i've never had them, i still know that they could be a pane. I suggest that for a few days, you should stick to soups. putting ice on your cheeks, right outside your teeth might help a little. i also suggest taking advil. i think it works a little bit better than tylenol sometimes because i think tylenol's specialty is more for fevers and maybe more like muscular pains. But, advil works for disinflamitory also. drink plenty of water though and i hope that you fee better and that your teeth feel better also haha. =)

hope i helped

Try advil or the new one which is better, don't lick your teeth if that eases the pain because it's bad.I had experience on this, yeah it hurted my teeth but for the next couple of days it goes away completely.A lot of sleeping helps so you don't feel the pain for a few hours.Don't worry it's just temporary ,then you'll get used to it,and it'll feel like nothing.
