Toe Touchs & Flips

Question Posted Friday July 21 2006, 1:47 pm

13/f .. This is my 8th grade year of cheerleading , but we don't have to try out to be on the team or anything , but I would like to make LaSalle Cheerleading, and you have to be required to do some flips and toe touches. I would like to know how to get a toe touch down , like a good one .. I got one year ... And would I look incrediably stupid if I decided to start gymnastics? I'm not flexiable at all && I can't even do a kartwheel. Thankss =)

My suggestion is to start gymnastics or even better start going to a cheerleading gym and get a personal trainer. I've been cheerleading for 10 years and since I wanted to do cheerleading in college, I joined a cheerleading gym to learn how to tumble. I've been there for three months and I almost have a round off handspring and I'm already working on back tucks. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish if you really work hard at it. And you won't look stupid, I just started and I'm 17.

I think you should start taking gymnastics because that really increases your chance of being on a cheerleading team. I'm not into cheerleading but since i've done gymnastics, can do back flips, handsprings etc, i've been asked several times to join the team. but it's not for me.
Gymnastics helps flexibility, skill, and strength.

Hope this helps <33

The main thing to do jumps is to get height and keep your chest up. Make sure you do everything on time and ALWAYS stretch. Im a cheerleader too and i have close to the best jumps on my squad. Good luck! Hope I helped!

hey!

ok, for the toe touch :
-stretch EVERYDAY. sit in a straddle and go to your right. then your left then to the middle. each day push yourself further.
-do crunches/situps. these will make your ab muscles stronger [and you'll get a nice looking stomach ;) ] You need strong ab muscles to jump higher.
-use correct form in your jumps, for help on that :

for the tumbling :
Find an allstar gym that has tumbling classes, and join. If you can't find any tumbling classes, your local gymnastics gym should have a tumbling class.

goodluck! :]

Most cheerleaders take gymnastics or tumbling classes so you wouldn't look stupid. Go for it.

not doing gymnastics and being the most unflexible person at tryouts would make you look even more stupid, so i'd just do it.

If you've got the money for gymnastics, I say go for it. :] It doesn't matter if you're flexible or not, and you won't look stupid even if they put you in, like a kids class or something. My friend joined gymnastics to work on her tumbling, and she was in a class with a bunch of kids when she first started. Now she's really good. It does take a while, but if you work really hard and listen to the instructor, you can get it within a year. I would ask this same question to spoiledandtoxic, cuz she knows where you're coming from and can tell you what to do. Hope I helped.
