Hey hi! I used to be really bad at math too. so much that I feel like crying everytime I can't solve a math question.

But don't worry. I dare tell you that math is one of the easiest subject to score. See, wat you can do, is that you can buy math assessment books from book stores. Better if they provide step by step solutions.

Lock yourself in the room with a glass of water and perhaps a box of cookies to munch on. Start with a topic that you're best at for some encouragement. Next, try out a rather tough topic and keep practising. Keep going at it. Nevermind if you keep getting it wrong just keep practising, look thru your notes or step by step solutions to guide you through. The key to solving math problems is to be able to see the "patterns" or rather, to be able to see wat steps you always have to apply in order to solve that particular type of math problem. Soon, you'll get the hang of it. If you're bad at algebra, it'll be excellent if you have like 100 algebra questions to practise on. The more the better. Ask for help if you need it and it'll do you good. Trust me, math is fun once you manage to crack the "patterns".

AND yes, Practise makes perfect. =)

believe me, i know exactly how you feel. Im terrible at math....!
I had to take some big exams at the beginning of last year, and one was advanced maths....
my parents hired a tutor for me, and she and i worked really hard together to help me pass. I worked with her, on my own, and with my parents in order to pass, and i ended up getting an A! so it is possible, you just have to really concentrate and work until you get it!
and dont be afraid to ask your teacher, parents or a tutor for help!
good luck!! ♥

I teach Language Arts and I could not do math to save my life. Most students are really good at one or the other and your brain just happens to be more fond of the other classes. You may need some tutoring but you know what, you are doing well cause at least you are passing with a "c".
Be proud of what you can accomplish and stop putting yourself down for the things you dont understand. If you are getting to the failing point, thats when you need to seek out a tutor but for now, just relax and enjoy being a kid.

Hey,
I totally understand what your talking about. I hate math too, and i always get a low grade i math. Until i started getting extra practise from teachers and friends and my dad. I did my best and i was a very hardworker, therefore at the end of the term i got really good grades. So i know that tutoring didn' work, but just try to be a much hard worker and take extra practise as much as you can.

I have this problem. I used to get 100%'s in all of my math classes, including Algebra 1 and Geometry. But Algebra 2 made me get a 93 (I know, it's still an A, but I worked so hard for that A). Here's why I didn't understand it.

My teacher was a horrible teacher. I couldn't learn a thing from her, until my friend helped me.

What you should do is ask your teacher for extra help. If you still struggle, ask a different math teacher for help. If you continue having problems, then ask anyone and everyone for help: family members, homework hotlines, or just try reading the textbook. Ask for extra credit, too. What I found helpful for a chemistry class was a website online (unfortunately, it didn't offer math help, but many websites explain mathematics well).

I hope that I helped. Good luck!

Don't say that math and you will never understand each other. Math is not an acquired talent. You can learn math even if you're pretty bad at it, at first. You said that tutoring didn't help? Well, maybe you had the wrong tutor.

I have a friend (he's a guy and we've been classmates since fourth grade till junior year) and he just sucks at Math. Well, during freshman year, he had a seatmate who was pretty good at Math. I think the teacher placed her as my friend's seatmate for the purpose of teaching him Math.

Anyway, since they were friends, she did help him and from a failing grade, he got a passing grade at the end of the year. And now, we're seniors in highschool and he's one of the best Math students ever!

His seatmate just somehow got him interested in Math and she taught him well. And he actually got an F and now it's usually just As or Bs.

His parents also gave him a hard time, but he didn't mind them... Up to this day, he's still thankful to his seatmate.

It just goes to show that YOU CAN do it... Nothing is impossible!

If you want any help in Math, you can just call me... I do pretty fairly, so I'm sure I can help.

i HATE math just as much as you do or even more....anyways this is what you do....just sit down and relax and free your mind in math class try understanding it bit by bit then when you come to a part where you dont get it or loose your concentration ask the teacher to repeat it again....and practice a lot

i'm pretty much on the same page as you. hm, well what i try and do is focus really hard when the teacher first starts doing a new unit of math. i haven't gotten a chance to do math lately because of the summer vacation. but i think it'd be good to ask for help in everything you don't understand, the teacher shouldn't be bothered. and i think you really have to tell yourself that you can learn math, you just have to want to actually do it. my boyfriend tells me to just do it when it comes to something i want. don't just say you want it, just do it! :) it's helped me in a lot. and there aren't any tricks in math, everything is straight-forward, one path out kind of thing. i'm sure if you focus really hard you'll be able to get the job done. i hope everything works out!

I feel how you feel right now, every single darn exam, i get c's!!!!!! it pisses me off to the hilt i feel stupid and my parents dont give me hard time, but that's just beating me down worse, i think they are giving me reverse phsycology secretly, they are good. BUt dad told me, some people are artist, and some are mathmagicians, you just happen to be an artist, and yes there is a such thing as book smart and logically smart. so tell your parents that...it is true

I know exactly how you feel. I did my mock maths test and got an average score. I was happy with that. Then the real thing came along and I did appalling. I've discovered I will never be as good at maths as I am English and Science.
Don't give up on maths though. You're doing your best, so stick to it. C's are fine. Don't let it put you down. Just because your friends are getting better grades than you doesn't mean you can't do maths. Maybe you need extra tutoring? Don't let it throw you. If you want to become better, study more, take notes in lessons, ask different teahers for help, ask questions in class when you don't understand, ask for extra work... There are a number of things you can do to help yourself.
Just don't let it get in the way of your other subjects.
Good luck!

I do actually know exactly how you feel. I did my exams and got a 4. Not 4%. That was the number of marks I actually got on the whole maths exam. Thankfully that was a mock but it was enough to shake me. My Dad is a teacher and tried numerous times to teach me to do maths but I could never get it and we would have blazing rows over it.

Unfortunately, I can only suggest to you the same methods I took. They managed to bump me up to a D grade but I think maths is one of those things for some people that you just cannot 'get'.

SO....first you need to find a way to make your mind relax. If you're anything like me, you see a sum and your brain puts up this huge mental block and you can't get past it. If you can try to relax it will help to get rid of that block a little. So try rewarding yourself with a piece of chocolate or something else whenever you finish a sum, whether you get it right or wrong. Then you shouldn't see it as so bad when you're faced with one.

Next, the best thing I did was get the help of a different maths teacher. I was learning *nothing* from my own teacher but my sister said her teacher was great. So my Mum and I went to him and made a deal. He took me for an hour or so after school every Thursday for a little money. He taught me right up from the basics to the level I needed for my exams and it is only because of him I got a D, rather than an F.

The most important thing is that you need to make sure you have your basics. I expect you have the same problem I did, where I wasn't taught the basics properly and because of that, anything that followed went right over my head. If you can find a lower level maths book (even if it is a few years below your level - you have to start soewhere) and then start working your way through it, things might just start to fall into place.

Try to relax about this. If you keep saying you hate it, it will make it more difficult for you to cope with it. Believe me, I know!! So stop saying you hate it and instead just say that you aren't as good as you could be but you are working on it.
