my parents give me a hard time about studying..they make me feel like i'm stupid...i hate it...i come back frm school and do all my homework and when i'm done my dad is all like "go study...and i'm like i did.."i'm finished"...then he goes..."oh..so no wonder ur grades are bad"...and my mom if i ask her a quesition she eexplains it to me and if i still don't understand it then she gets really pissed off at me...she says i'm not paying attension...then my mom's friend always calls in and says my son got a 100 on this...wat did ur daughter get....and my mom's all like an 85...she sounds embarresed...so that's why i can't ever show her any of my grades that i'm proud of....or ask her any questions...that's why i always make a low A...B's and sometimes high C's...i've tried tutoring but that does'nt help...even the tutor gets pissed off at me...how can i make my grades be higher w/o getting my parents invovled???

I am not only a teacher but a parent and my son and I go through the same crap with my sister-in-law. I hate it when report cards come out and she counts all of her A's and says how perfect she is. She is only 7. As a parent, I feel like I have neglected my son and perhaps he too should be pulling the same grades; however, all kids are different. We all learn in different ways. I suggest you find out what ways you are able to learn and run with that. For example, if you are a visual learner, you need to see more pictures to understand things. A tactile person needs to feel things for them to understand the material. There is also the auditorial learner where if a person hears a lecture they easily get it. Find out where you lie and perhaps that will help you.
As far as your parents are concerned, its not right for them to yell at you at all but it is in their nature because they are frustrated. My guess is that they see you study but do not understand themselves why you are confused over the material. I also suggest seeking out the teacher, they can also help.
No matter what happens, Good luck!! And keep in touch as I am curious if this will help you or not. [ bettyboopstr's advice column | Ask bettyboopstr A Question ]
