15 / female / Pennsylvania (if that helps with the things-to-put-in-the-box thing)
Hi, I have a penpal from France. We have been sending letters back and forth, and now I want to send a shoebox of American things.
But what kind of things should I put in it?
So far I have:
American Dollar/quarter/etc.
A magazine
Photos
Yeah, that's it. Pretty sad, I know, but I'm clueless. If you could help me think of ideas, that would be great. And I would like it if the objects would have purpose (not like a pack of stickers or stuffed animals).

You can also put in a poster of your favorite actor and/or actress and kinda tell her why you packed each thing. that way they learn stuff about you and also see how we live in america. you could also pack in like a roster of your classes to show how different the school systmes are. you can even include some of the letters they send home for dances and fundraisers because the schools there are SO different.
If you're into theater you can also put in a poster of a musical or play that you really like, or one that is really popular right now.
Ashley9391 answered Saturday July 8 2006, 5:27 pm: Things with the English language on them
Such as:
-Food Labels/Packaged foods
-Popular games from the US (Life, Monopoly, etc.)
-Post cards
-Books
-Movies
-Cds
anything that gives him or her an idea of what kind of things you like to do, watch, listen to, read...
xxsima answered Saturday July 8 2006, 4:31 pm: You can add..
- Mini American Flag
- Jolly ranchers or other types of american candies
- American Stamps
- Tape measure [I'm not sure if people in france use inches/centimeters.]
- 'I love New York' shirt
- Keychain with the American flag on it
LoveNJstyle answered Saturday July 8 2006, 4:23 pm: if you ever go to NY, get one of those "i love ny" tshirts for like 3 bucks. postcards are good, maybe a magazine (depends on if your penpal is a boy or girl) if its a girl you guys can like send one back and forth saying whats hott in each place and what's not. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]
miz_babi_liz55 answered Saturday July 8 2006, 4:16 pm: have you ever been in one of those giftshops that has a bunch of small trinkets and whatnot displaying their patriotism and love for their own state? maybe you could get her a few things from there. maybe even a few postcards of major landmarks(such as mount rushmore or the statue of liberty). these stores can be found especially near train stations and airports in major cities. this maybe harder or easier to do depending on what part of pennsylvania you live in. maybe you could even get one of those minnature american flags u hang up on your car window. or maybe one of those i<3nyc hats or something(i know you dont actually live in new york, but those can actually be found almost anywhere)i hope i helped. =] [ miz_babi_liz55's advice column | Ask miz_babi_liz55 A Question ]
