Okay, I don't usually get nervous before performing on stage. I get really nervous during auditions, though and because I'm nervous I perform poorly and I don't get a callback. I hate knowing that I could do really well, but blowing it because I'm nervous. Does anyone know how I can overcome my audition nerves? I will rate high. Thanks.

Just tell yourself over and over in your head "i'm the only one in the room" and just think that you're at home in your bedroom. If you love to act just tell yourself that you can do it and that nothing can stop you from living your dream. I hope you get over this fear soon :)

When you're up on stage in front of a large audience, your mind is tricked into believing that your audience is part of the play. or in other words, you become part of the audience, so you feel as though you can control your nerves, since nobody is picking you out and judging you. However, when auditioning, there is constant tension between you and the director, because you both want to make the part work. But my advice would just be to have fun.
good luck with your acting! [ primordialdwarf's advice column | Ask primordialdwarf A Question ]
FEF1992 answered Wednesday June 28 2006, 8:43 pm: The age old answer is to picture the audiance in their underwear... it never works and it is pretty disturbing. Focus hard on what you are doing, auditioning. You know you want the part and auditioning is easier then the performance because there are MUCH less people watching you. You should watch High School Musicial to watch how Troy and Gabriella try out for the part.

CavieOwnsU2 answered Tuesday June 27 2006, 9:32 pm: Ok, I admit I could repeat everything that hsa already been said if I felt that repeating it was worth it, but you van just read what they said. Take a deep breathe, practice alot, maybe even take classes on auditioning (yes, there are such things), but what I really have to say is not everyone can just go and get the leads all the time. Also, "there are no small parts, only small actors". Ever heard of Chris Evans? More known as the "fire man in Fantastic Four"? He was part of the chorus in his own mother's show before he made it big. (I know the fam.) Just remember that and hopefully it wil make you stress less and preform better! Helpful answered Sunday June 25 2006, 9:08 pm: Before you go to your audition, write down what you're afraid of. Like,'what if everyone laughs at me?' Then shoot it down by writing just below it, 'Everyone's nervous. Why would they laugh at ME?' Soon you'll see that most of your fears don't make any sense. Hope I helped! clearlypink428 answered Sunday June 25 2006, 9:07 pm: practice it- over and over wether in your room, or in front of people- until you asolutely cannot stand to practice it anymore. that way- you will be so used to the performance- that doing it infront of anybody wont get you down. it will be like second- nature to you. hope i helped! rainxindoors answered Sunday June 25 2006, 5:08 pm: Well you can just sing anywhere and everywhere no matter whos there.. that usually helps me (even if you aren't singing good at that time haha). When you are ready to audition, just pretend you are just singing for fun to your friends/family, but sing well. You could always just look up and stare at something on the wall in the room. When you start singing and you hear your voice being scratchy or off key because your nervous, do not freak out because that will make it worse. You could either ask the judges if you can start again, or just improve on your voice as your singing. Good luck and have fun =] [ rainxindoors's advice column | Ask rainxindoors A Question ]
betterthanyou_X3 answered Sunday June 25 2006, 4:59 pm: This is what I was always taught:
Right before you go on, take a nice, long, deep breath. It really helps you calm down so you aren't as nervous. But also, take that nervous energy that you have and put it into your performance. Instead of pacing, rubbing your hands, or whatever nervous habit you have, use that extra energy to make bigger gestures, enunciate, and increase the volume of your voice.
Stage fright is a good thing, believe it or not because of the fact that you have all that extra energy. You just need to learn to use it to your advantage.
You're going to get many of declines for shows, plays, whatever you're auditioning for before you actually get cast but do NOT let that discourage you. Every time you audition, you get that much better. [ betterthanyou_X3's advice column | Ask betterthanyou_X3 A Question ]
