Clean its cage every few weeks by replacing the bedding and washing the cage where it uses the bathroom, if possible, or just sprinkly some baking soda over the spot(s). For the bedding, ask the person at the pet store what kind of bedding is best for hamsters.
Play with your hamster in the evening so it will get used to you. Don't play with it for a very logn time, 15 minutes per night at most, especially when they are still little. buy some hamster treats, and be sure to read and see how many per day you should give them. They love to chew on toliet paper rolls, so put one in. [ katie_knows_all481's advice column | Ask katie_knows_all481 A Question ]
mountaindew1007 answered Tuesday June 27 2006, 2:57 am: When you buy a hamster from a store it is usually are a month old.Hamsters are not very hard to take care of you have to make sure you pick it up and pet it. So it gets use to you.If its a little mean try feeding it through the cage like treats. But NEVER wake up a hamster and pick it up right after. It will bit.But hamsters love eating fresh fruits and vegetables. You can buy any kind of hamster food they will eat it.You also must give them alot of food(like a bowl full). So you dont have to keep feeding it just keep checking every two days to see if they have any food. They also like to hide food so look around there cage. This info. should be accurate because i have 8 of my own teddy bear hamsters.Anyway if you want more info my email is mountaindew1007@yahoo.com [ mountaindew1007's advice column | Ask mountaindew1007 A Question ]
someone1234 answered Sunday June 25 2006, 10:52 pm: Hello,
well the teddy bear hamster is a Syrian hamster. The care is basically the same as most hamsters this site is really helpfull:
crack_is_wack answered Sunday June 25 2006, 2:12 pm: First of all, your hamster is really, really cute. For real.
According to about.com, the teddy bear hamster is also called the Syrian or Golden hamster. Here's a site with some good background info about Syrian hamsters: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
I think those sites should definitely tell you what you need. If you still need more information, just google search Syrian Hamster and you'll get a ton of good sites.
isis answered Saturday June 24 2006, 5:50 am: I have had three of these adorable hamsters, but they do need a lot of attention.
The store you got the hamster from should be able to tell you how old it is.
If you don't know what sex it is, look under it's tail, if it looks like : it's a boy, if it looks ; it's a girl, also with the female the vents are closer together, sometimes appearing as just the one opening.
It needs to be handled every day to stop it from becoming aggressive, but the best time is in the evenings as they are nocturnal and better tempered at this time.
Hamsters usually do not need to be groomed as they will do this themselves, however the teddy bear will need help. You should be able to buy a special hamster grooming comb, or you could use a toothbrush to remove any dirt, wood shavings or food etc. If you ever need to cut anything out of the fur, it would be best if you got one your parents to help, as holding a wriggling hamster and trying to use a pair of scissors could be a problem.
I've listed some web sites that should help with diet etc.
All of these give excellent advice on the care and management of teddy bear hamsters, including diet, exercise, grooming and health care.
If you need anymore info and can't find it, or any concerns about your new pet, let me know and I'll see if I can help.
Best of luck. [ isis's advice column | Ask isis A Question ]
Sorry if that didn't help. I've never had a hamster, so I have no idea how to take care of them. If that doesn't work, try google or ask.com. hope i helped =)
lulabelle answered Friday June 23 2006, 11:11 pm: I went to your site and saw your adorable baby. How precious it is. What a great site you have created. I personally don't know anything about hamsters. I've never had one though I've had just about every other kind of animal. I'm feeding squirrels right now and they are simply not afraid of me anymore. I will go out on my balcony and they will just look at me and continue eating. I think they are so adorable and I think they know that. I found some websites for you that may be helpful to you w/your new addition to your life and I wish you the best of luck with your new friend. They have the info on them that I think you said you were looking for. Thank you for having the confidence in me to help you and good luck with your new baby.
