Cheerbear answered Sunday November 25 2007, 4:31 pm: First I just have to correct your spelling - ALL of you. ANOREXIA is the disease within which the anorectic person starves themselves. BULIMIA is the disease within which the patient overindulges in thousands of calories worth of foods and induces vomiting or gets rid of calories through exercise, laxatives, diuretics, and a number of other things that are extremely damaging to your body.
Please do not do that to yourself. You may have read all of those posts and said "well, that won't happen to me" but it really can happen to you. I watched a lifetime movie about it when I was in middle school and started cutting my food intake in half thinking "i won't go as far as those girls did" and now ten years later I'm seeing a nutritionist and a counselor and my parents are in denial and I have no friends because I spent my every spare moment thinking about food, my next binge, my next chance to workout, ect. You may think "i can control it" but it really gets to the point where the disease is controlling you. That's right, these are diseases, not diets and they are deadly. I'm twenty two years old and have to have an ultra-sound of my heart because I have abnormalities in my EKG's. I have no energy, persistant headaches, and I'm suicidal because I don't want to be bulimic but I'm so afraid to let go of the eating disorder because it's the only way of life I've known for the last eleven years. Let me also tell you that even if you think "i'm fat, i need to loose weight" the illogical thoughts that tell you to starve yourself are there because there are other problems going on that your body doesn't know how to deal with. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help. Whether you go to church or not, the nearest church would be glad to help you find someone to talk to who understands. One more thing - those comments everyone said about your boyfriend and parents aren't true. Being in recovery I know a lot of girls in my position - none of the parents are angry. Mine are in denial but not because they're angry, because they don't know what to do or how to fix me. They're so scared, they don't want to believe that I have this problem. Your parents love you (whether you see that or not - when I was eleven I was so sure my parents didn't love me. Now I see they just had issues of their own, but they have always loved me.) Your boyfriend may not know how to handle it but if he really loves you he won't flip out. It's hard to really love someone at a young age - I don't know how old you are - but don't worry about your boyfriend. He probably won't be the guy you mary anyway, especially if he flips out when he finds out you have a problem. Trust me - I've been there. Right now what you need to do is take care of you.
It's good to eat either two of the following things for breakfast
Whole grain carbohydrate
Protein (or dairy)
Fruit
For example - a bowl of whole grain cereal (like cherios) with half a cup of milk or eight ounces of apple juice and a whole grain bagel. FYI whole grain bagels are SO good just plain.
If you're hungry between breakfast and lunch then eat but it's good to have something healthy, low cal, and crunchy in the morning like carrots, an apple, or celery even. Crunchy, healthy, low cal snacks actually give you more energy and it's good to eat when you are hungry because this boosts your metabolism. Think about it - each time you eat your body starts digesting immediately and the healthier the food (with more nutrients) the harder it is for your body to digest which means the more calories you're burning by digesting it. So your body is working hard and thus you begin to wake up.
Have a GOOD lunch. A sandwich with meat (and cheese if you'd like) - read the package of meat to see how much is considered a healthy serving. Stay away from bologna and fake meats. Turkey, Chicken, and Ham are so good for you. Eat whole grain bread (white or wheat, whatever you prefer), and use whatever condiments your body is craving. Satisfying cravings make you less likely to binge on fatty foods later. I stay away from mayo because I just don't like it but if you do go for "light" mayo not fat free. Fat free items tend to have more carbohydrates in them than "light" items. Mustard is SO good because it's tasty and it will make you thirsty. Drink water, water, powerade, gatorade, water, propel, ect. These things keep you hydrated and help flatten your tummy. Stay away from sodas - they dehydrate you and that's why your tummy looks pudgy and you feel bloated (if your tummy looks pudgy which I'm betting that it doesn't). Along with your sandwich have some fruit - apple sauce, peaches or something sweet, and if you're still hungry try a small salad or even a few gram crackers. Everyone says watch your carbs but the food pyramid tells us we're allowed 6-11 servings a day.
Dinner - meat, potatoes, vegetables and water. Potatoes are so good for you - packed full of potassium and other vital nutrients. You can eat one everyday and even though they seem so fatty they're not. I promise.
Let me tell you what my nutritionist told me about a month ago. I wasn't letting myself eat anything and she was trying to convince me to eat because had I not eaten I would've found myself in the hospital AGAIN. When you start restricting your food intake your body gets scared. It doesn't know when it's going to get a good amount of food next so it holds on to everything you give it and for bulimics like me, the minute you take in anything it grabs hold of it and those calories are consumed almost instantly (so even if you throw up you're keeping at least a third of what you eat if not twice that) which is why so many bulimics look like normal healthy functioning people. On top of that if you're starving yourself and working out, you're really not burning any calories because your body slows your metabolism down so much. Our bodies are so intelligent and when we try to starve ourselves it kicks into survival mode and does everything it can to keep us alive. Some of those medical problems that were listed are not entirely accurate but the accurate ones are equally terrifying. Strokes, heart attacks, esophagus eruptions, tearing of the stomach linings, erosion of the teeth, seizures, and osteoporosis are all things anorectics and bulimics are prone to. My friend has lost all of her teeth and has severe digestion problems. My teeth have eroded quite a bit, I'm seeing a cardiologist and I have some digestion problems as well. Life may have sucked before I did this to myself but it really sucks now. Take my advice, don't start starving yourself and if you already have get some help. S_C answered Monday April 3 2006, 6:39 am: Cutting back food is bad when you do it in a way that could hurt you (such as anorexia and bulemia). I was anorexic, I know the effects it has on you and your loved ones. It's a horrible thing to go through. We watched some movie in one of our classes about it to, it was close to the real thing, it was based on a true story. I can't think of the title, but it's a lifetime movie and it's staring Tracie Gold (the girl from Growing Pains). Anyway, that's a decent way to find out what it does to people. But never ever ever ever try to have an eating disorder. They mess you up big time!!
Maybe you can just start eating healthier. Excercising more. Join a sport, or even do simple things like kicking around a soccer ball with your friends. Or playing basketball in the driveway or something. Anorexia should NEVER be an option. As for bulemia, I don't like throwing up when I'm sick, so I just plain out don't understand how people can be bulemic.
loves2shop86 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 11:40 pm: Sweety, why would you WANT to do such a thing to yourself? People die every day from eating disorders... it's deffinitely not a joke!! If you want to lose some weight, all you have to do is exercise every other day or so, and avoid junk food. For example, instead of eating chips and drinking soda, have an apple and drink a LOT of water! Instead of a burger at burger king, have a grilled chicken salad. Also, have 5 small meals spread out during the day, instead of 3 big ones! You will look fabulous AND be healthy in no time! [ loves2shop86's advice column | Ask loves2shop86 A Question ]
honu22 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 9:36 pm: Anorexia and bulimia are full-blown horrible, damaging disorders. If you took the time to research these, you'd see! I dare you to type in "anorexia" on google, and just look at the photos.
Food=life, it doesn't=fat.
If you want to go on a "diet", keep eating! Just eat healthy and exercise. And never exercise too much.
You have people who really care about you (if they didn't care about you, they would not flip if they found out you had a eating disorder). Talk to them about all this before you might go and damage yourself; they'll really help you. [ honu22's advice column | Ask honu22 A Question ]
twistedsister17 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 9:04 pm: Oh God. Okay, if you are Not eating at all, or making yourself throw up after you eat, or only eating like crackers for lunch, then yes honey, it is a bad thing. What you need to do is except your body for what it is because 50% of girls who say they are overweight are Not overweight. If you really think you are, ask your doctor or try this.
You can diet by taking junk food out of your diet, but don't take out the nutrients like fruits, veggies, meat, dairy and grains that you need to be healthy. Dieting and being anorexic are NOT the same thing. And anyways, if you want to diet, it should be YOUR decision, not your boyfriend's or your parent's. Try to eat healthy, small meals and snacks, not gigantic meals, and definitely try to excersize more, joing a sport or whatever.
operation_waffle answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 8:54 pm: No, if you think you're too fat- go on a diet. You can't be that fat b/c you have a boyfriend. Even if you didn't- try and make a goal of excersize and diet.
tasuki answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 7:41 pm: Yes, it is a bad thing. Bulimia and anorexia aren't like goth or punk. It's not something you do because you want to. It's a mental disease. If you really are overweight, you need to eat HEALTHY foods, and stop with the junk food. But usually in the case of eating disorders, the patient isn't really overweight, they just think so. I suggest going to see a therapist if these thoughts continue to bother you. It's not even about your parents or your boyfriend--it's about you. Think about it. There is a good reason why they would be angry, and that's because you would be damaging yourself greatly. [ tasuki's advice column | Ask tasuki A Question ]
xsweet_pea_10 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 7:30 pm: What ever you do don't become balimic, anerexic, or cut back on food. Yes this would make your parents become mad and your boyfriend flip out. I don't know if your skinny or fat but if you are fat then just exercise and eat healthy. Bcomeing anerxic would also probly freak out your friends and you probly don't want to lose them. If you leave you height and weight i could let you know if you were under or overweight so just drop one in my inbox.
jeanine278972 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:54 pm: Yes it is. In the long run it's worse for you. Right now it may seem like an easy way to lose weight. But did you know once you stop with the crash dieting, you'll gain back that weight plus some. I can't remember the exact ratio, but it's unhealthy. Not only do you gain it back, you cause permanent damage to your stomach and esophogas. Forcing yourself to get sick causes some kind of damage in your throat and is REALLY hard to stop. Once you get used to throwing up your meals, it's really hard to force your body to hold food.
heya answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:49 pm: Cutting back food is not necessarily a bad thing. You def. dont need to go anorexic or bulimic..that can lead to bad health problems in the future. If want to lose weight, excercise and eat healthy. Eat 6 little meals a day..instead of 3 meals. Avoid snacking and bread. Also sodas are the worst for you..try to drink water, 100% juice or tea. Dont drink diet soda..that is not any better than the regular soda. Also excercise like 30 min to an hr a day. Sports is a great way to get in shape and make you feel good about yourself. Not only are you burning off fat but youre playing a sport you really like. I recommend either an aerobic class or sport. [ heya's advice column | Ask heya A Question ]
LoViNu2mOuCh answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:37 pm: OK, anorexia and bulimia suck...I know that is a stupid thing to say but they do...
It ruined my life...I was very close to dying fro them...they got so bad for me...
If you have a boyfriend you should know that you obviously must be fine so there is not reason for you to...but then again I know how you feel about it, but really if you think about it you mush be fine...
And really to be healthy you should eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner...but eat healthily and eat in moderation...
cheerbabe22 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:34 pm: In my school, guys were asked what they found attractive. Superskinny or average. Only about 3 percent of the guys said superskinny compared to the other 97 percent. You already have a loving boyfriend who cares about you very much, doing something stupid will only cause fights between the two of you and you will harm yourself. Depending on how much you eat cutting back on food could be a good or bad thing. If all you do is eat and eat big portions and not exercise, yes you should cut back, it would be healthy. If you excerise and eat normaly, no don't cut back it will just harm you. Also you will lose trust in many people and you might end up going to counsling and all of this other stuff which is not fun. Don't try stupid things like that, if your unhappy with your weight just exercise more and eat healthier. I hope I helped [ cheerbabe22's advice column | Ask cheerbabe22 A Question ]
Ryan_10 answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:32 pm: Um yes both are bad. This doesnt do anything for you. First you loose all your muscles becuase thats the closest nutrient your body has then it starts at the fat. you become so weak you can barley climb the stares. YOU CAN DIE BECUASE OF THIS. DO NOT DO THIS. PEOPLE DIE BECUASE THE STARVE THEMSELVES TOO MUCH AND THEY DONT REALIZE AND BY THE TIME THEY DO THEY DIE.
karenR answered Tuesday March 28 2006, 6:29 pm: If you sit down and eat an entire box of ice cream, cutting down is not a bad thing.
If you stop eating or start vomiting up everything you eat, that is not only bad but can be deadly as well.
You will turn into a very unattractive skeleton.
Your teeth will rot out. Your hair will fall out.
You can have a heart attack or you can rupture your stomach.
That is only a few things. None attractive.
The best way is to eat the proper amount and exercise. Really not a hard thing to do. There are thousands of web sites out there that will help you with proper diet and exercise tips.
