To be a model, You have to be at least 5'7 or bare min of 5'5(5’5 only if a girl is under 18 years of age)and this is only for commercial print(magazines, catalogues, ect) and even then most clients would rather prefer the 5'9 + girls instead of the shorter ones.

It is not true that "you can be short" to do "face modeling" there is no such thing, from waist up, face only ect. You have to be above those requirements.

Now of course there are exceptions with everything in life. But remember if you do not fit in you must stand out in the best way possible. There must be something about you that makes people/clients go "Wow" if not, your a just another ordinary girl in the real world.

5'2 is extremely short. If you really want to achieve this, you need to work your ass off (any short girl who wants to model) you must have personality and that wow factor with your look and just the way you carry yourself, and confidence is number one!!! Don’t forget that!

I suggest you go out to agencies with a petite division and go to there open calls. Start from there and work your way up. This will not be easy and may seem impossible but there will always be people who bring you down,(the taller girls seem to do this very well, pretty much because they don’t like competition) so remember if you want to get into this business you literally have to be emotionally ready (no joke).

As an inspiring model, I am also short, and its even harder for me because im a guy and I must be taller then the girls (which most girls are in the 5’7-5’11 range). I’m 5'10 which is bare minimum for commercial print but luckily im still growing at 16. ive been out to casting and got a call back from ford models. Nothing is impossible, it may seem at first but remember, life has a brick wall you must climb over to succeed, as high as the wall may seem, people will try to pull you down and this is were you have to be strong and bring yourself to the top.

To be a model, it is a plus if you are tall. They have certain requirements for everything {your height, bust, waist, butt, etc}.
I would recommend practicing your commercial and editorial looks and different face poses so you can build up a small portfolio or getting an agent.

The best thing to do is to ask your agent what the height requirement is for your specific agency.

no, i don't think you do. if you've ever seen america's next top model, eva won and she was the shortest one. i actually think height should have to do with anything. (unless you're modeling something special that you have to be tall for)

ok, to be a super model, i'm pretty sure that there is a certain height requirement..and it's pretty rediculous. but for other kinds of models, like for magazine ads, I don't think there is. Try looking online for agencies and then go to one that seems good and ask for an interview. good luck!

hope i helped♥

I dont think you have to be very tall to model for catalogues. Because i have a few friends in modeling now.I also use to be a part of modeling. I took classes for awhile and the friends i have that are in modeling that go to fashion shows are not that tall...i think if you have the confidence to do it and you put your mind to it you can do anything. Good Luck!!

If you want to be a catwalk model there are height restrictions. If you want to be a catalogue or magazine model they're not usually so strict. I would say the best thing to do is contact a few agencies and see what they have to say about you. Just don't part with any money, the reputable ones will take photo's for nothing, will give you their honest opinion straight away and will find appropriate work for you. Remember though, that even if you don't make it as a model, it's just their opinion of you and there will be other options for you that may work out to be better. Try your best and if it doesn't work, try something else. Good luck.

Dead Model,

It really depends don't just listen to the people below this for their answers come from reseaarch no experience. I help agent models all over arizona, ca, fl, wa and yes height is considered an issue a huge issue but here is an example. The shortest runway model is Riley Keough age 16 and stands a bit over 5'6, Another twiggy she was only 5'6 and was the first supermodel (not Janice Dickinson). 5'2 would be too short for runway unless a designer or production manager whats that. So editoral prints will allow you to be short as hell and be a successful model. Because al we do when we get to the cutting floor is scale and change the way the girls looks to meet our specifications. So, it is possible its just hard to get there.

Good luck!

lulabelle answered Friday March 17 2006, 9:27 am:
Unfortunately that is true. I lived in New York for a while. There was this absolutely gorgeous girl who was 5'8" and wanted to be a model. She was told everywhere that she was not tall enough. I think that 5'9" is the shortest you can be. So, for 1" she couldn't be a model. Now, I'm sure you know who Mark Walburg is. He started his profession as a type of rapper and then became super famous as a Calvin Klein model. Now he's an actor making tons of money. He's only 5'5" tall! Somehow he was able to slip in there because of his sex appeal. Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to see that there are always exceptions. You have to do something or be something very interesting or different that will cause an exception in your case. Another thing to think about is Hollywood. Most of the actors in Hollywood are very beautiful and very short. I think Sylvester Stelone is only 5'6 or 7" and Mel Gibson is not much taller. Tom Cruse is around the same height. Acting today is basically modeling. The actors are simply posing the expression of the emotion of the moment. You could get yourself noticed through commercials or shows which could create a demand to see you. Once there is a demand to see you they don't care how tall you are you can model anything. They will all be asking for you. You can also start doing some local modeling to get started. Hometowns are much more lenient about height. You just have to be pretty. Now these are just two ideas that I hope helps you spark some of your own. There are innumerable ways to get where you want to be, but one thing is for sure in my mind. You can do anything you want to do. You just have to know it. Don't let other's negativity convince you otherwise. It is because we let others tell us what we can and can't do that limits us. Know you can do it and things will happen that will lead you to your goal. I wish you luck.

Namaste!

Michele answered Friday March 17 2006, 8:56 am:
Yes that is correct. Only runway models have to be very tall. Magazine and "print" models can be short. Good skin is very important. Avoid tans, if you look closely you'll see that most models do not have tans. And do not overpluck your eyebrows. A beautiful and white smile is also important. Avoid cola and coffee and SMOKING< that stains your teeth.
Also avoid those companies that just want you to spend 2,500 dollars on your "portfolio" then never call you. YOu will need some pictures of yourself though. Some professional pictures. So just be careful who you hire.

Good luck.

Yea, most models are tall and thin. I won runner up and I'm 5'4. But, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be tall, hun. So keep trying and good luck!

I'm 5'2" and I met someone once who kept telling me to go into modeling...and when I said that I was too short they told me that I could still do editorial modeling (magazine ads, pretty much). Runway is out of the question for us shorties though, unless you're already famous in some other way and you're just doing it for fun. 5'7" is even considered short for the runway, so how do you think 5'2" would go over? heheh
