I think it makes more sense. Since when does an x look like a pair of lips kissing something. I think it looks like two people hugging with one arm around their neck and the other on their back. The "x" is the kiss because.. um.. maybe you have to have good aim? Haha. I have no idea.
The "o" is the hug because you wrap your arms around someone? Haha. I still have no idea.
