Non-Dairy Dessert

Question Posted Friday December 16 2005, 10:17 am

I am having friends for dinner this weekend, and one women is not allowed ANY dairy in her diet. (She is a new mom and is breastfeeding-and for some reason can't have dairy). I can not figure out what kind of dessert to serve. It can't contain butter, chocolate, or milk. Any ideas?

Maybe you could serve raspberry sorbet. That is the only dessert I can think of right now without those ingredients. If you're desperate check out foodnetwork.com and type in like "non-dairy" and then search through those to find desserts that don't have chocolate or butter. Good luck!!

First off, fruit salad is a good idea, just like everyone else said. You might try smoothies without milk or yogurt.

Alternatively, you could look for premade deserts at grocery store from the bakery or frozen that use soy products in place of dairy products.

Try [Link](Mouse over link to see full location). There is a search page that allows you to elimate ingrdients, and shows you recipes.

Try angel food cake with a fruit glaze. Another option is a fruit salad. A sorbet is also a good option. If you have a health food store nearby, try there. They often sell products made with soy rather than milk. Personally, I find the taste of soy ice cream great.

You can find some non-dairy dessert recipes at the links below. The second link is a dairy-free cheesecake.

a good milk substitute is mocha mix my mom is lactose intolerant and she uses it for everything! also if you just need butter to grease a pan, you can use pam cooking spray. also go for something fruity thats not so choclatey.

How many people are attending? If there are several, it doesn't make sense to customize the meal for just 1 person. Make whatever you want, if it has dairy in it, just tell her that she shouldn't have any. Because honestly, deserts without butter, chocolate, or milk just plain suck. :)

OOOO, how about a nice fruit salad. With, strawberry's, kiwiw, blueberrys, orange slices, bananna pieces, and you can make it look all fancy. Maybe blend some of it together, and add a little bit of sugar and pore that sauce onto the fruit. Hope I helped!
