Do I have an eating Disorder?

Question Posted Tuesday December 13 2005, 6:29 pm

I don't think I have an eating disorder but some people say I am on my way onto being annorexic. I mean I am 93lbs and 15 years old. I am always watching my weight making sure I am not over 95lbs. I know it may sound crazy but I don't know.. if I get at 95 or above not usually to 98 though I quit eating till I am back to 93lbs. I don't know why I do this but it is just how I am. I do not eat Breakfast or Lunch but always Supper. So please help me and give me some reasonable advice other than "you need to eat breakfast and lunch cuz its not healty" cuz that is all people seem to say, I mean my boyfriend is worried but to me this is the only way to control MY life.

[ Answer this question ]

Additional info, added Tuesday December 13 2005, 8:55 pm:
I am 5"0 and I don't go throughout the WHOLE day without eating. I do eat here and there just not at lunch or breakefast cuz I am just not hungary but when I am I do eat. I sometimes (not usually) get hungary and ignore the pains and it goes away..

I guess i can understand what your saying..But i think you should definityly try talking to someone about this other than kids in school. 93 pounds for a fifteen year old girl??! no offense but thats crazy and gross! no girl at that age should weigh that little amount. My sister felt the same way you did and was anorexic at about 15/16..but she went to a therapist for help. Thats no good to feel that you HAVE to loose weight because you gained a pound or two. Your so young dont be worring about your weight. You should be healthy, not 93 pounds. Do something now because this can effect you physically and mentally as well.

What you need to do is get rid of the scale....seriously. Your weight doesn't matter in any way shape or form to anything. Stop looking at the number and start looking in the mirror. Ask yourself if you look good. That's all you need to know. You're not a number you are a person. At your age (actually probably closer to 13 or 14) you should be gaining weight from puberty. My guess is that you don't have much of a figure and you should have some of one by now anyways. What you are doing is very unhealthy both physically and mentally. You could actually have stunted your growth by caring so much about your weight, which is VERY unhealthy. You should talk to your doctor about this and please make sure that you get rid of that scale. I hope I helped you and good luck.

i think that you should try to gain wait stead of loose. the way to see if you are "fat" is go to www.am-i-fat.com

also, to try to controll you life try some extra activities. that should help. i dont mean to gain on fats, but try some helthy foods for lunch. do NOT one day just start eating luch and breakfast because that is not your normal habits and you will jsut throw it back up becaus your body is not used to it. please if this gets worse, talk to someone who specializes.

well, it does sound like you are annoexic. its just the fact that you stop eating untill you are 93 lbs again. i think you should TRY to eat at least breakfast, and gain some weight, because people are right, it isnt healthy. 93lbs is also pretty unhealthy for a 15 year old girl. try to gain more weight, LET yourself. and if you want, see what your doctor says. but to tell you the truth, 93lbs is pretty low for your age. if you gain some weight it will do you more good than bad. hope i can help and feel free to IM me, fearlesssamurai on aim and ankeagle14 on yahoo.

You're only human. And just like everyone, you want to be able to control some aspect of your life. Weight is something you have total control over. But I do have to tell you that you need to control it in the right way, because this isn't it.

You didn't state your height and I'm not one to judge quickly. But assuming that 15 year olds typically range from 110-130, you are way below the average.

Let me ask you this...do you want to be another statistic? Do you want to be one out of those five who have the most common eating disorder? If you're still trying to figure out who you are, I'd really consider not following the trendy disorder.

Your friends and family and boyfriend should be concerned. You may not have realized this but from how you worded your question it seems like you're not happy with yourself. I'm not sure if this is true, and please do not get offended if it's not. You need to take care of yourself and have control in the right way. Obsessing over weight is never good. In fact, you don't have any control, you're just loosing it.

You know that you should already eat three balanced meals a day. So why aren't you? Dinner doesn't count, no matter how big the portion size. Keep your meals leveled and balanced. If you intend not to do this, you will have problems. Not just on the verge of an eating disorder but also your health will decrease believe me.

Anorexia or any eating disorder really makes you ugly. No joke. My friends were, and I've been through it. I know how it goes, I do. If I hadn't caught myself I could have been in a lot worse shape. But my friend, oh my god, I cannot tell you how bad she looked.

The facial hair is horrible. It's all over you, all over your stomach. It's plainly gross. Honestly. Your period stops. Great - you chance of having kids is very limited now. Your immune system goes down. You start loosing functions. You start becomming weak and brittle. You hair falls out. Your teeth and nails are yellow. You're pale as ever. And you have no strength, no energy.

That never happened to me, but it has to my friends. Luckily, I got help the first two weeks of mye ating disorder. It's really hard and shameful to see. You look and feel awful and you're treated differently.

These are graphic just to warn you. But this is how people look. It's sad. And our world has came down to this...so please take CONTROL now. And try to gain weight. You won't be fat, I promise you. ( if that is what you are afraid of ) Do it for yourself, and if you can't, do it for you boyfriend or friends. They want to see you healthy.

Health Consequences of Anorexia Nervosa:
In anorexia nervosa’s cycle of self-starvation, the body is denied the essential nutrients it needs to function normally. Thus, the body is forced to slow down all of its processes to conserve energy, resulting in serious medical consequences.

Abnormally slow heart rate and low blood pressure, which mean that the heart muscle is changing. The risk for heart failure rises as the heart rate and blood pressure levels sink lower and lower.
Reduction of bone density (osteoporosis), which results in dry, brittle bones.
Muscle loss and weakness.
Severe dehydration, which can result in kidney failure.
Fainting, fatigue, and overall weakness.
Dry hair and skin; hair loss is common.
Growth of a downy layer of hair called lanugo all over the body, including the face, in an effort to keep the body warm.

DaNcE_In_ThE_RaIn answered Tuesday December 13 2005, 7:20 pm:
First of all, its a proven fact that students who eat their breakfast do better in school. Breakfast is a really important meal. 93, even 98 pounds is underweight for a 15 year old. Please stay healthy and stop starving yourself! Obviously, if your boyfriend and other people have noticed this, its become an issue. To start, start eating healthy breakfast and lunches. They keep you healthy and make you feel good. 98 lbs. is NOT fat at all!! Take care of yourself and eat 3 supplement meals a day..thats what people normally eat, and its healthy you won't get fat. I hope you gain some weight and decide to start eating healthy!

Well i think you should realize that being over 93 pounds is not a big deal at all. If you need more control in your life, join a club or sport at school. PLEASE, do not become anerexic, your weight is perfect at 15 even if you are 100 pounds!!
hope i helped!!!

Hun, if u keep controling your life like this, YOU WONT HAVE A LIFE!!! Please please please understand the consequence of anorexia. Instead of taking action for your life in the sense of not eating, you can take a class that you really enjoy and that really calms you and that is like a different world when you do it. My friend was bulimic. She was bulimic because she thought that what she put inside her body was the only thing that she could control in her life. So when i told her my advice, she decided to take up drama. Now, she stopped her bulimia and drama is what she can thank. It helped her get away from all the stress she's been through and was her secret passion. Now, I'm not telling you to take up acting, but try to find something that you're interested in, and that you can control; something that is like your heaven.. your passion! And Please eat!:D
(If this continues, please be proactive and seek professional help!)

Hey hun.
This is not the right way to go.
You are 15 and you should be OVER 98lbs.
Talk to your parents so they could take you to a doctor because this kind of thing could seriously lead to having an eating disorder.
I don't eat breakfast either but I come home and head straight to the kitchen LOL.
You shouldn't starve your self if you reach up to 98lbs that's good that you do and you shouldn't need to lose weight; you should be gaining it instead.
