Question Posted Friday November 11 2005, 1:18 am

My dog is a mixed breed. He's rather tiny.. I'm just wondering how long do those kind of dogs last? He's healthy but I'm kind of worried that I'll lose him. He's 7 years old and apparently is having some hearing problems?

Every dog has some problems. But that does not mean that he's gonna die soon.. loss of hearing is just a disorder.
Small dogs actually live longer than larger ones because their heart does not have to work so hard to circulate blood through their body (that's what I was told). It also does depend on genetics. Anyways, don't worry, the oldest small dogs can be almost around 20 years of age!

Most small dogs actually live longer than larger dogs. Healthy dogs usually live around 13 to 15 years. Hearing has nothing to do with how old he will live- usually. Just take him to the vet to check out that hearing problem.

the smaller the dog usually the longer they last. if u know the breeds in it then look up those specific breeds for their life span and health problems. then pretty much expect anything you read. your not sure which genes he took up but they are in him somewhere. like my dog is lab/husky. rather big dog! Lab's can live up to 10-12 years and huskies can live up to 12-14 years. so i can suspect her to live anywhere between 10-14 years. trust me little dogs last forever! but you gotta realize that eventually his time will be up! give him a good life and dont think about it!

im pretty sure your dog will be fine, at least for a while. smaller dogs can live longer than others, and since you said other than his hearing problem he's healthy, so he'll be ok. hope i helped! ♥

Some small dogs can live to be 20 years old, others just have bad luck, there's no way to no for sure, but you're dog will probably live to be at least 10+ years if he doesn't get any other health problems.

small dogs usually last 10-14 years
~Maegan~
ps: look up some info on the parts of dog breeds hes mixed with. if you don't know what hes mixed with, call your vet and ask them if they can see any certain breeds in him.

Small dogs have the life expectancy of somewhere between 11-14 years. They generally live longer than larger dogs. But, I've seen a big dog live up to 21 years before. You just never know. What I would suggest doing to help your dog live longer is to start paying attention to your dog's diet. Give your dogs supplements, especially vitamin C. I have purchased powdered sulfur and mixed a little in with their food. This is good for their skin. Now take a look at what kind of dog food you are feeding your dog. If it has cornmeal in it, it really isn't good for your dog. Think about it. If your dog were in the wild, would he be hunting down corn? This is not part of their natural diet. Don't give him those buckskin chews anymore. They aren't good for them. You can actually go to the butcher in your local grocery story and ask for dog bones. They will cut them down for your dog. Publix actually has them in the meat section of the store. This has nutritious marrow in the center and is much healthier for their teeth than dog biscuits. Dogs also like vegetables. If it is ok with your mother and father after you have eaten and if you have vegetables left over, instead of throwing them down the garbage disposal, just put them in your dogs bowl. The vegetables will disappear. Another way to help in the health of your dog is to exercise him more often. This means play with him a lot. Make sure he runs and runs and runs. Dogs are like people. If they are sitting around the house all day and arenĂ¢??t too active this is unhealthy for them. I have included some websites below to help you in your quest to help your dog live longer. I donĂ¢??t have dogs or cats anymore because of the fact that they die. I just love them soooo much that I fall apart when they leave me. I can understand your feelings. Good luck!

Namaste

hey
my friend used to have a dog like that and the dog lasted way more than 7 years more like 17 it seems that smaller dogs live longer and if you do lose him i will be trully sorry for you but he is most likely to be in a better place even if you don't accept it
