Hello! My name is Heather & I am thirteen years old. I live in the Unites States and I love animals-especially horses. I have been riding horses for almost a year now. Feel free to ask me anything- I am very good at giving advice.

my cat is breathing hard and his mouth is partly open. and hes just lying on his side a lot! he went into the bathroom and just layed there under the sink for a long time. is he dying? or is it because of the hot weather? When my hamster was dying, she was just lying around and breathing hard. please answer imidiatly. i love my cat. (link)

Don't worry my cat does this all the time in the summer. Most likely it is because of the hot weather. If it is cool outside though and your cat still does this- then you should take him to the vet.

My puppies (two small breed, one male one female) are so newspaper-trained that they won't go outside! Every time we come in from a walk they go straight to the newspaper and do their business. What should I do? (link)
|
This is a good thing! Everyday, move the newspaper about one inch towards the door. Eventually, move the newspaper outside where they can find it. After about a week of them using the newspaper outside, remove it completely. They should then start going outside.

Are boxers a good dog to have as a family pet? I want one, but I have 2 little ones at home (2years & 6 Mo.) would a boxer be a wise decision? (link)
|
Yes, a boxer would be a great choice! As long as the young ones don't play rough with the dog, it should not be a problem. It would probably be wise to buy a boxer puppy, not an adult. That way, it will learn to behave, and to not be so aggressive.

We eat eggs(I mean chicken egg). Had we not eaten them, would they have given rise to live chicks? Or are they some sort of non reproductive egg? (link)
|
Eggs that you buy from the store will never hatch. You see, when you remove an egg from the hen, it loses warmth. Eggs need warmth to hatch.

My dog is a mixed breed. He's rather tiny.. I'm just wondering how long do those kind of dogs last? He's healthy but I'm kind of worried that I'll lose him. He's 7 years old and apparently is having some hearing problems? (link)
|
Most small dogs actually live longer than larger dogs. Healthy dogs usually live around 13 to 15 years. Hearing has nothing to do with how old he will live- usually. Just take him to the vet to check out that hearing problem.

my male teddy bear hamster as been acting very tired and less active latly also he has not been eating as much is there anything wrong with him???
Also my hamster chews on the metel bars of the cage is that bad what should i do (link)
|
I have had many teddy bear hamsters that have acted like this at one time or another. It is simply because of old age. You should still do everything normally- like the type of food and amount of exercise. All of my hamters chew on the bars at the top of the cage. This is very normal. Hamsters need to chew- if they don't their teeth will grow WAY out of control. Don't worry it doesn't sound like there is anything at all wrong with your hamster.

i just got a hamster from my friends around 10 days ago .. it has grown really bloated now .. i am afraid that it might have something to do with her eating the rubber stopper .. she has not been eliminating much.. could you please advice me. (link)
|
Does this hamster have long hair? It is common for teddy bear hamsters to gain weight. If it has short hair then this is a problem. Hamsters put a ton of stuff in their cheeks without actually eating- maybe that is all your hamster is doing. Remove the rubber stopper and replace it with masking tape. That way the hamster cannot eat it. The best thing to do though is take it to the vet- maybe you could learn some things about hamster care.

My parents own a female Beagle and they have noticed that she has been chewing on her ears. They are concerned, I told them to take her to the vet because she might have ear mites. Is this common for Beagles to chew on thier ears? Any feedback would be great. (link)
|
Well what it sounds like this dog needs is a chew toy. This doesn't sound like a disease- it sounds like boredom. Beagles are very hyper dogs, they need plenty of exercise daily, so take it for a walk everyday so it has something to do. When you see the dog chewing on it's ears, yell NO and push his muzzle away. Or simply hire a dog trainer to train the dog.

I remember when I was like this before I got a horse. See what I did was I leased a horse (you know 'borrow' it, paying for the board fee in exchange for riding it). That way my parents could see that I was really ready for all the responsibility. If that doesn't work, agree on an age for when you can have one- such as sixteen. That way you can save up the money and take riding lessons before then.

I can't seem to make many new friends this year. I've always found social skills an easy thing for me, but this year something's different. It's really hard for me to strike up a conversation, because now I get really shy. I've already gone through the initial introduction process, so most of the people in my classes at least know who I am and I'd like to start hanging out with them, but wouldn't it be kind of weird to randomly start hanging out with them in the middle of the year? or going up to a group in my class and start hanging out with them (when they've already bonded)?
How do I get past the acquaintance stage without it being weird?
I've tried compliments (and been sincere about it) but there's only so many things you can't compliment on without seeming...fake, you know? (link)
|
This is exactly the same problem I had last year. First of all, get into a club at school that you know you will enjoy. It can be really easy to make friends when you have the same interests-you have much to talk about. Also, sit with some new people at lunch. That way it won't seem weird when you are just talking to them. I hope this helps!

my dog is a 1 year old bichon frise. he has been scratching himself non stop to a point where he rips his face up & he bleeds. it's not flees (we asked the vet & he takes medicine). the vet suggested hypoallergenic food, which we ordered. my dog has been wearing a cone for the past 2 or 3 weeks (so he won't scratch) but as soon as you take it off, he does. what else can we do to make him stop scratching the way he does or what could be wrong with him? i don't want him to wear a cone or scratch for ever! (link)
|
Well first of all, make sure you cut his nails so he doesn't hurt himself so badly. It does sound as if he has dry skin. There are many shampoos you can buy for dry skin, so get one of those. Don't bathe him too much though- that will make it worse. Do it only about once every one or two weeks.
