Behavioral Problem

Question Posted Tuesday January 10 2006, 3:01 am

My parents own a female Beagle and they have noticed that she has been chewing on her ears. They are concerned, I told them to take her to the vet because she might have ear mites. Is this common for Beagles to chew on thier ears? Any feedback would be great.

a while ago my dod had really bad ear mites, he sat and chewed, scratched, rubbed, anything he did to relecave the itching really. i suggest that you tell ur parents to take the dog to the vet for a check, if shes clear, she might just be really bored, so some chew toys might be a good idea!!

Well what it sounds like this dog needs is a chew toy. This doesn't sound like a disease- it sounds like boredom. Beagles are very hyper dogs, they need plenty of exercise daily, so take it for a walk everyday so it has something to do. When you see the dog chewing on it's ears, yell NO and push his muzzle away. Or simply hire a dog trainer to train the dog.

My family has a beagle and so did my moms friend. My moms friends dog used to chew on her ears this is a problem. You should take the dog to the vet. My dog doesn't chew on her ears though. Maybe it is common for beagles to chew their ears. [She does many weird things though]
Hope I Helped =) =)

No i don`t think its normal for any dog to chew on their ears.. I mean it has to hurt.. There has to be something wrong with the dogs ears in order for it to do that.. They should take the dog to the vet.. If they let it go on for too long they could maybe get in trouble of some sort.. ♥ Dez
