Infection in the Vagina

Question Posted Thursday September 22 2005, 10:29 pm

If your vagina isn't used to a lot of things wouldn't it be common sense if it got irrated, like from toooooooooo much perfume, soap and things like that?

Any vagina, regardless of how 'used to things' it is, can get quite irritated from perfume, scented soap, etc. You can even cause or increase the natural smell by washing too much - and washing away all of your vagina's natural defences.

If you want to be hygenic, wash yourself when you take a shower. Once a day - NO SOAP inside the actual vagina, though a gentle baby soap can be used to wash the outer areas. Most girls/women smell just fine, so no extra perfums are needed.

Wear breathable panties - cotton are best to promote healthy and fresh vaginas.

Sure, that's common sense; but that might not be what's really causing your vagina to be irritated. See a gyno just to be sure, and yeah, don't put a bunch of chemicals down there :/

Bubble Bath two words and do not use it. My cousin when little was forever back and forth from the doctor for creams. Her mother could not figure out the bubble bath caused her infections. Once they figured it out all was fine. If you want infections use it if not do not. They thought it was her getting red from doing too much self-exploration at first. She got scolded for that a lot when it was bubble bath.

Soaps with perfume are out for sure and use only IVORY or DOVE. You should be fine but yes, I know from health classes as well as personal experience that you never use perfume soap etc if you are a woman or with female children. Infections will start for sure.

Yes, it would be easy for your vagina to get irritated from soaps. Some soaps have on the back certain areas that you can't place it near...you might want to try reading the back of it before you use it on your more private areas.

You vagina has a delicate balance, and yes, too much soap and perfume can easily cause it to become irritated. This might not always lead to a full blown infection, but it certainly won't be comfortable for you. Avoid any scented feminine wipes or similar products and treat the area gently with very mild unperfumed soap and water. If the irritation continues, you may need to go to a doctor, but for now just try relaxing with the cleansing.

Vaginas aren't people, you shouldn't bathe them and cover them up with perfume.

Juicygirl answered Thursday September 22 2005, 11:56 pm:
Perfume!? Don't use antiperspirants, deodorant tampons, and powders with talc or perfumes or other feminine hygiene ingredients, because it can be irritating. When using soap, use an gentle, unscented soap around and near your vagina but not inside as it will cause painful irritation and itchiness, making it worse.

If you have an unpleasant odor coming from the crotch area, there could be several causes: bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas vaginalis (vaginal infection), yeast overgrowths, and more. You should get a physical exam to check for any problems, and if there are any residing, you treat it instead of hiding it under perfume. ;)

EDIT: sillyrob has a good point, but just because it isn't a person doesn't mean it needs to be bathed regularly. ;)

It can yes.

Doesn't mean its an infection necessarily but it could get irritated. Your skin there is just more sensitive. :)
