how to be a Prep?
hi well first of all i know some of you might think why in the world do you want to be a prep? and all that stuff but i dont care what you think if you are just going to like criticize me ok.
and people who are willing to help, how do i be like a prep?
i mean i know i kinda like talk like a prep and all that but i am Asian and stuff and i am not rich at all so i cant really go shopping at Holiaster and American Eagle outfitters and all that and this one person thought i looked like a devil worshiper. like what the heck! i am so not a devil worshiper... i mean i heard of someone telling me that i talk like a prep and everything but how do i really really look prep?
i really really need to be a prep...
its a survival of high school...and trust me, you dont know my school

Ok well first of all im a prep and it took me a while but i finally made it there. What you needa know first is wear the clothes that the preps at your school are wearing it mostly depends on were you live like were i live the preps wear abercrombie, american eagle, hollister, and aeropostale. try and wear those clothes those are what the preps wear and there always having sales on there web sites. and a plus is that they make you look rich;) but dont try to hard or ppl will start to notice k. but remember sales lol and try and get the ones that dnt look like they were on sale k.

What I think you should do is get some polos and some dresses etc etc u get it anyway just watch some other peoples and do wut they do

ok well i guess you can say there is two main types of preps.
1. the ones that go to prep schools and have money
[usually wear ralph lauren, la coste ect.]
and
2. the ones that go to normal schools
[usually wear abercrombie, hollister ect.]
by what you asked im guessing you want to be #2
and i can see why , i mean their is a BIG diffrence!
Hollister shirt= $20
Ralph Lauren shirt= $90 && up
well first of all NEVER go ANYWHERE looking bad
because chances are you will regret it
--no matter what happens you have to look good
--always smell good
--walk and sit perfectly straight
--do not hang with people that will make you less
example: people that will make you go down in your social spot or w/e you want to call it.
--always do your hair and make up really cute
--dont talk too much but dont be too quiet either
--think before you say things so you dont end up making yourself look like an idiot
--make sure you are always clean
--pamper yourself
example: file your nails take a long bath put stuff on your hair so it looks shiny but NEVER greasy!
--wear clothes that bring out your best features
--eat vitamins (they actually do make your hair grow faster and healthier) [i learned that the hard way]
--make sure you get a work out routine
--try to eat healthy and never eat too much candy when theirs people around
[do wat i do ..if u want candy lock ur door stuff your face than work out and act like nothing happened]
--always be and look girly
--mirrors are your friends [haha] make sure you look good every once in a while [dont over do it]
--dont talk too loud but not too low
about the clothes:
make your own little cute outfits
wear long tight shirts with tight jeans and cute lil shoes
also you can save some money and go buy some nice shirts they dont have to be a certain brand they just have to look very cute and girly *smile*
if you want your shirts to be from hollister abercrombie american eagle and all that just go to the web site and youll find things on sale if you see anything cute that you can afford than go
&& that other girl was right
save money and get a really nice bag
chances are it will be expensive but oh so worth it!
oh by the way DO NOT
go to stores stay there 4 an hour and come out with empty hands

Hi I know what you mean if AE is too expensive (and i mean $30 for a shirt come on!) try vintige stores they have lots of polo shirts and fashonable tees also try polka dots and khakys are also great, just remember be polite and always have a smile!!!

Hello, well there are many steps in the metamorphosis into being a prep. : ) Ok, to be you can't just wear the apparel: you need to have he act. I strongly advise you to be you, but if you say you can't affords such apparel in 'Hollister' you can atleast save your money and buy a small items.(I only shop in Hollister and American Eagle). The average amount for a shirt is 20.00 (jeans are a different story). Prep is a polar opposite from punk and the gothic styles. When i usually wear *preppy*
clothing it consist of a shirt from hollister and a button-up under it, with the sleves folded and rolled up. (It's differen't from what you will imagine). But the most part in being is to be you. If you are not considered a preppy person it doesn't matter. But another important step is to have you own creative stlye of prep. It took me approximately 1 year to find my own style of prep clothing. You should also have the tendancy to look at picture of other style of clothing.I partially got my style from pictured and everyone loves it)

Well, you MUST do these things:
~i agree w/ everyone. you have to good posture. no slumping.
~ ALWAYS smile. 1st impressions are v. important
~be smart & raise your hand when you know the answer, but dont be a teachers pet.
~don't get fakes. fake uggs or louis vuitton is just cheesy. if you can't afford the real thing, go to somewhere like kohl's and buy a neutral plain purse or simple ballet flats.
~iron your clothes. be sexy, but not trashy.
~you need
-polos
-solid-color sweaters
-any type of pearls (faux are ok)
-flats or flip flops
-khakis
-designer jeans
~be well groomed. neat hair and a nice perfume will always complete your look. don't overdo the perfume though!
~be FIT! there is nothing worse than flab hanging over those designer jeans. sports like cheerleading, field hockey, swimming, crew etc.
~wear HAPPY colors! black and grey are for accessories.
~only pierce your ears and not anywhere else and never wear tattoes.
~don't try too hard. people WILL notice. be easy-going and laid-back, never talk behind anyones back and never talk back to adults.
~change your hairstyle every once & a while. go from ponytail to bob to long curls. give people something to notice, but make it GOOD.
~ A&E, Hollister, A&F are really where WE shop. exotic clothes from spain are nice, but you can definitely shop there, no matter what anyone else thinks. don't lie if you didn't get it from italy. the alpha prep girl will probably find out. if you actually bought it from somewhere discount where preps don't shop like Marshall's, say you got it from a place like Nordstrom, a store that sells a variety of one-time clothes.

Okay, this is Real advice. I am a prep but I'm not a superficial snob. Some people might tell you that to be a prep you HAVe to be mean, and buy mega expensive clothes and acessories but you DON"T! For a prep that is not exactly rich{and don't feel bad you'd be suprised how many preps aren't} try affordable yet still great stores like Aeropostale, American Eagle, or forever 21. There is NO need to spend $80 on a shirt that you're only gonna where once! Basically THE 15 RULES OF BIENG A PREP are...
1 never make a bad fashion statement
2 wear fashionable clothes
3 act like you're a princess {cause you know you are}
4 shave legs daily
5 use scented shampoo
6 never let hair go flat
7 have cool{nice} friends
8 have a popular boyfriend
9 don't wear to much or to less make-up{no skankiness}
10 kiss-up to teachers
11 always brush teeth {hygiene is a must}
12 always floss {again hygiene}
13 bring repair accessories
14 ALWAYS SOCIALIZE {they call it popular for a reason}
15 Most importantly, you don't need to put people down to bring yourself up {it just makes u seem unfun and pathetic, a real prep gets everyone to like her}

Hello, I'll try to get a fiew thing through your head. Prep is NOT about what you wear. Its a lifestyle. BUT - Just because you dont live in a mansion with a butler is doesnt mean you can't be pretty, popular & stylish. You do not HAVE to act preppy just to get through highschool because "You school has a huge judgment"
I would not adivise you to try to act preppy for reasons such as:
-People who aren't preps can spot fake preps easily.
-Real preps DO not like poser preps. ( This matters a lot because in order to get noticed you need the right croud..Preferablly true preps. If you had a crowd of posers you would be treated without respect, critisized & rejected.
There are MANY poser preps who want to become a prep, thinking it is just a style of clothing. So they go to A.E and Hollister because thats all they can afford and think that this will make them prep.
WRONG.
Hollister and A.E arent even what real preps wear! These stores are simply catogorized as "Prep Wear" by POSER PREPS, because they can't afford brands like Ralph Lauren and Lacoste..Etc.
Now, Back to your Question. A few guides on how to be "Prep" Or in this case, Being Popular and Pretty.
1# Preps normally have long straight hair, which they groom until it grows long and silky. Try going through magazines and look for some products which add shine and smell to your hair.
[Go through grooming pages on Google and make yourself gorgeous] ! The way to get you noticed is for you to find some new trends. If you see a new hair-dress by a DKNY backstage hairdresser - COPY IT and wear it for school !
Enough about Grooming, That is a MUST anytime, anywhere and no matter what you do.
2# Preps have class! If I were you I would purchase a book written by John Galliano and Camilla Morton called 'How to Walk In High Heels'
It is the girls guide book to everything. *Every prep has it, they just dont say it*
If It is too expensive for you no problem.. Just remember.. If you wish you feel High-Class just feel superior.
CLOTHES & MONEY!
Preps wear classy, good quality clothes.
The trick to that is simple. You just have to practise picking expensive-looking clothes from cheap shops!
OR
List through some magazines and see what Paris Hilton or any Fashion Icon is wearing, take the magazine with you to the cheap store and try a simliar outfit to hers. You might have to pop in to several shops. You don't have to exactly copy everything she is wearing, maybe just a simliar t-shirt.
OR
Since I dont know your financial problems, Im sure ones a month, or year you could pop into an expensive clothes store holding the fashion magazine, and pick out something else that one of the stars has! Like a Lacoste bag or something expensive depending on your style.
[Try to avoid A.E/Hollister, thats poser-prep clothes. Try to shop from a different store, If girls ask you where you got your clothes from, say something along these lines:
-My dad brought it from Italy..Do you like it?
OR
-It's this clothes store in Paris, I dont remember what Its called, Whatever. -Stick your tounge out- :P
Get the Idea?
SUGGESTION - Buy a designer bag, No matter how much money it costs, just buy SOMETHING with a Label on it like GUCCI, FENDI, DIOR anything!

oh that's cool, i'm asian too, but i dont think i'm a prep. i have some preppy friends that are asian too, and they ALL shop at aeropostale too. you dont have to be rich to be a prep. and some preps might have clothes from hollister and abercrombie, but they probably bought it when there was like a sale or something. and when american eagle has a sale, the clothes are very cheap. aeropostale used to send coupons to people who signed up for newsletters at their website every month, but i dont think they do that anymore. but there are also stores that sell preppy clothes for very little money, like at forever 21, and xios. preps like to use ties and scarfs as belts, and they tie it at the side of their hips. they sell scarf belts at the gap for like 20 dollars.. which is a total rip off, but you can just use any old tie or scarf and use it as a belt. preps also like the worn out/destroyed jeans look now. a pair of these jeans would be like 80 dollars at abercrombie. instead of buying a new pair of jeans that look old, take out a pair of jeans you already have and use a cheese grater, or a pair of scissors to destroy the jeans. dont over do it though because then people will KNOW that you did it yourself

Just try to wear some pink with your outfits.... Try to use makeup that brings out your eyes more and lip stick that makes your lips come to life (i know it sounds lamn) Also try to make your hair kind of straight and smooth... make it curl a little at the ends though so you dont look like you did not do anything with it.

Okay, To be a prep isn't exactly just wearing A.E or hollister pants. You can find pants at JC pennys,mervyns,kohls,target,old navy and ter stores.The jeans there are "destroyed" like the jeans at A.E and hollister. JC pennys has faded and holes, and are under $20. Shirts dont have to be hollister or A.E ethier, there is shirts everywhere that are bright colors have like sparkles on them and shine. if u wear like black all the time thats not really preppy.So ya it isnt that expensive nad it can still look preppy. hop i helped :-)

Since you cxan`t really afford Holister or Abercrombie, there`s good news .. check out a store called TJ Maxx, and they have brand name clothes there, for really cheap!

i guess you can't really BE a prep but you can dress like one. you don't have to go to aero, ae, abercrombie, etc etc. there's stuff at jc penny and macys, and kohls, shirts like polo shirts, the collared ones, under 10$. they come in really cute colors too. try wearings bright colors and jewelry. you can get cheaper jewelry at places like cvs, eckard, walmart, etc. if you wear bright colors you'll stand out and see more "preppy".

Okay!! Well I will try but listen if you were'nt a prep before and all of the sudded you become one.. people will start calling you poser and fake. If you dont know how to dress preppy then why be one? I mean its not that hard. You are'nt being who you are and you just want to be like everyone else but thats fine I guess.. since you dont care. I`m just being honest and if you rate me a bad score then oh well but I am just telling you what I think. Anyways.. you dont have to be really rich to shop at Hollister. I know most of the things are expensive but they have some things you can afford. American Eagle isnt expensive. Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, Old Navy && Aeropostale are good stores. Just dress girly. Look at magazines and try to match that stuff. Do your hair and make-up cute. Thats preppy.
