How do I gain weight?

Question Posted Saturday August 6 2005, 8:18 am

I swear I'm not trying to brag, I'm 13 and only like 70 pounds, I sit in front of my computer all day, I eat a bunch of crap food, I go to McDonalds all the time, but you can still see my spine through the front. How can I gain weight? I rate high usually, but smartass answers will just result in me asking "Why do you suck so much?" as one of those personal questions.

You basically answered your own question, though you didnt realize it. You are eating tons of junk food. This isnt good for your body. You need to eat healthy, eat pasta and drink milkshakes or smoothies. If you keep eating macdonalds and "crap food" you are going to get yourself seriously sick. Also, i think next time you go to your doctor you should talk to them about it because 70lbs is REALLY underweight for a 13 year old. Leave one in my inbox if you have any other questions.

You should try lifting weights, that way, you will gain muscle instead of just fat. Don't worry, you won't end up looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Girls don't tend to bulk up much. Also, try eating a lot of healthy food, instead of junk food.

i'm pretty much the same way except i'm 96 lbs which is really low compared to girls the same height and age as me who are 120lbs. i did gain 10lbs. last year which got me to the weight i'm at now but now i can't get over this weight. one thing that i've seen that helps is smoothies. even if you find a low fat recipe you can still make it fattening if you use regular ingredients instead of the low fat ones. try a lot of pasta too.

If your thirteen and only 70 punds you are REALLY underweight. unless your really short it's time to do something. If eating doesn't help you put on the weight talk to your doctor about some healthy ways to put it on... I wouldn't go out fo your way to do anything that involves weight loss such as jogging... its one thing to stay in shape another to lose weight. Just dont go on any diets and exercise but dont go to nuts. Your physician will be able to help you out whether its reccomending some foods or sending you to a nutricionist. If you go to wwww.am-i-fat.com and on the tab bar on the side click "am i fat" u can enter your weight and hight and it will tell you whether your under weigh over weight just right and wat you need to do. Good luck with this.

SoNotLegal answered Saturday August 6 2005, 6:57 pm:
First of all, you're not eating healthily, and that could be part of your problem. Just because you eat junk food doesn't mean that you're going to gain weight. And if you don't at least attempt to eat the proper foods, you're going to be malnutritioned and that will have serious drawbacks. Such as death.
Anyway, there are several things that you should look at. You could just have an extremely high metabolism, which means that your body is going to need a LOT of nutritious food (another reason to start eating healthy foods). It's also possible that you have an overactive thyroid. The thyroid (it's located somewhere in the neck-ish region, I think) controls your weight -- an overactive thyroid can cause you to be severely underweight, and vice-versa for an underactive one. It also controls your moods -- if you have bipolar disorder, it's because your thyroid is overactive (so if you're bipolar, that's probably why you're underweight). However, just because you have an overactive thyroid doesn't necessarily mean you'll be bipolar.
Either way, you probably need to see a doctor about it, because it could be something that is detrimental to your health.
♥ Hope I helped.

try drinking protein shakes in the morning. they help add good weight, not like fatty weight. and next time your height would help, because if your really short you'd still be skinny but not as skinny as if you were 5'6", or something. also working out-not to burn calories, but to gain muscle will make you appear bigger. also "boost" is a weight gain yummy shake. my friend drank that and it helped her. hope this helps!

If you are concerned about your weight, go talk to your doctor about it. Sitting around and eating junk food isn't the best way to gain weight, especially if it's mostly fatty foods and McDonald's. It might not show on your body, but putting that stuff into your system could have bad long-term side effects if you eat it too frequently.

You have a fast matabolism. However, it'll be better for you to get in the habit of eating healthier and working out. (you don't have to be fat or old to have a heart attack) You should start running and lift weights to build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Good luck! I'm working on the same thing.

There are these cereal bar type things that you can eat and they are supposed to help you gain weight. try going to a health food store and ask someone at the front counter about them.

Some people have a high metabolism. You'll probably stay skinny. It will help if you get some excercise regularly. If you do that, you will gain weight, in a good way. Muscle. You will also feel better about yourself. Go for a run every morning, bike, skate, swim. Excercise doesn't have to be boring and tough.

just eat hardy meals. dont control yur portion sizes, and eat when yur hungry. Even tho yu are not gaining weight, what yur doing really isnt good for you. Yu need to gain weight the healthy way, not by eating junk food. Its OK to wanna gain weight, but eating junk is just making yu more and more unhealthy. I'm not saying that to be mean. Im just trying to help yu out. Hope everything goes well<33

As long as you've never been anorexic or bulimic, then its fine. You just have a high metabolism and should talk to your doctor about it. However, you should try eating Real food, things that will fill you up. A healthy body needs food from every food group. Make sure you eat: grains (bread, cereal, etc, vegetables (spinach, carrots, potatoes, they are not hard to make just ask your mom.) fruits, dairy(milk &cheese) and proper servings of protein (meat) to fill you up. Also if you want to build muscles on your body, try lifting weights.

Heres are some websites that explain about a food pyramid.

So make sure you eat right, like Not McDonalds. Just ask your mom to buy some frozen veggies or frozen dinners at Wegmans. They are really good and easy to prepare. Try Stofers or Lean Cusine because they usually come with a serving of grain, vegetables, and meat. Also make sure you are getting enough dairy, such as milk, yogurt and cheese.
