Im 15/f. At the moment I'm a Christian, but I'm considering becoming a solitary witch. I've got some questions I'd like to know the answers to from people who actually practise witchcraft and aren't just writing a book
1) Do I need to start praying to the God straight
away?
2) Do I definetely need a separate altar, goddess
shrine, god shrine and lunar shrine because I
only have a small room
3) Does being a witch cost a lot of money?
I'm too young to get a job so I don't have
much money
Don't get me wrong, I really want to become a witch. It's just that the books I'm reading just aren't answering all my questions as they are written by older women dedicated to the craft completely, not a young beginner. Any sources of information or tips on becoming and being a solitary witch are also welcome.
As you can see for yourself, you'll probably get a lot of crap for wanting to practice a religion that feels right for you. People don't know any better than to put down what they don't believe in. It is sad, yes, but the small minded have so much to say on things they know so little about.
As for your questions:
1) Praying isn't neccesary.. not for a while anyway. It is more a directing of energy than praying... I always thought praying to be ineffective, myself.
2) One altar is fine, as long as symbols of both the God and Goddess are present.
3) All the money I suggest you spend is the couple of cents for some incense sticks... maybe buy a book or two. I'm fond of anything by Scott Cunningham... "Wicca" is good.. for the Solitary Practicioner.
Don't let anyone tell you what is right for you. If you end up feeling that Christianity is the way for you... then good! If you choose Wicca, even better!... If you wind up Buddhist... that's fine, too. Whatever makes you happy.. [ tearsthatsear's advice column | Ask tearsthatsear A Question ]

Real4Christ07 answered Saturday July 16 2005, 12:03 pm: Yes you should pray right away. God doesn't want you to do witchcraft. Jesus Loves you so much and he doesn't want you to turn away.
Galations 5:18
If you let the Holy Spirit lead you, the Law no longer has power over you.19The things your sinful old self wants to do are: sex sins, sinful desires, wild living, 20worshiping false gods(celebrities), WITCHCRAFT, hating, fighting, being jealous, being angry, arguing, dividing into little groups and thinking the other groups are wrong, false teaching(witchcraft, buddhist, hinu, Catholosism, etc),21wanting something someone else has, killing other people, using strong drink(alcohol), wild parties, and all things like these. I told you before and I am telling you again that those who do these things will have no place in the holy nation of God(Heaven). 22But the fruit that comes from having the Holy Spirit in our lives is: love, joy, peace, not giving up, being kind, being good, having faith, 23being gentle, and being the boss over our own desires. The Law is not against these things. 24Those of us who belong to Christ have nailed our sinful old selves on His cross. Our sinful desires are now dead. 25If the Holy Spirit is living in us, let us be led by Him in all things. 26Let us not become proud in ways in which we should not. We must not make hard feelings among ourselves as Christians or make anyone jealous.
I tell you the truth if you get into witchcraf, unless you ask for forgiveness, your soul will be condemned to HELL. NO ONE DESERVES TO GO TO HELL. No matter what you've done.
Hell : the place of eternal punishment for the wicked after death, presided over by Satan, place of evil, misery, discord, or destruction, eternal tormnet, The powers of darkness and evil. Every bad feeling you have ever felt is in Hell. There is nothing good and no happiness at all in Hell. And demons torture you and you are a slave to evil spirits. You bones break and never heal. You are DOWN THERE FOREVER WITH NO CHANCE TO MAKE IT TO HEAVEN. In hell you can look uo and see the people in Heaven rejoicing while u suffer. Do you want that. I tell you the truth. Kepp your faith and start having a lifestyle of prayer.
-God Bless you
GOD HAS A PURPOSE FOR YOU.
All those people who say witchcraft is natural and wicca is ok are only puppets to Satan's plan for you. And that is Death and eternal torment in Hell. Don't listen to them. The creator of the universe God himself is crying out to you saying don't do witchcraft. Those people who say Christians are dumb WILL burn in HELL. I don't mean to be mean or make you scared. But I promise you on everything I own and desire that I tell you the truth. If they go to hell do you wanna with them? [ Real4Christ07's advice column | Ask Real4Christ07 A Question ]
Nyx answered Wednesday July 13 2005, 3:18 am: Books don't usually answer a lot of questions. I'm glad you sought advice from actual people. Wicca is a nature based life-affirming religiong, just like any other religion. However, the difference in Wicca and say Christiantiy is that Wicca focuses on individualism. You worship how you see fit.
Dont start praying to some God you don't even know or really believe in just yet. Most witches(all true witches) start off for one year and one day reading, learning, and gathering information. They have no altars as of yet, they slowly aquire things for when their year and day of studying are done and they initiate themselves into the faith.
I am a solitary Witch, and have been for 8 years. I started off as eclectic(which means that I just take bits an pieces of each different wiccan denomination and form my own branch), but recently converted to Egyptian Wicca(which means I worship the Egyptian Pantheon and Religion). During your one year and one day, read up as much as you can about Wicca(including the different branches: Dianic, Kitchen Witchcraft, Green Witchcraft, Greek, Egyptian, Celtic, Gardnerian, Pictish, etc)
One book I reccomend to ANY witch(new or old) is Wicca the Complete Craft by D.J. Conway. It's brilliant, and very informative. If you need anyone to talk to further, please please please email me, wether it be any more questions, or if you are recieving harrassment in school for your religious choice. SweetxxIntoxication answered Friday July 8 2005, 2:10 pm: most people dont realize that witchcraft is a natural thing... nature is more involved than anything...and that the things you see on charmed and in movies and other tv shows..are pretty fake...
there is a book called "elements of witchcraft. natural magick for teens" written by ellen dugan..the great garden witch.
it may not be what you are looking for. but its a great way to start. i read it, and practice all the time. i think its great to start out with.
also, many people think you have to "worship satan"
witches dont believe in satan, or evil..or demons, nor do they work with them.
GodRockz91 answered Friday July 8 2005, 12:37 pm: Just a question, Why do you want to become a witch ?? Thats so, "bewitched" anything a witch can do, my God can do better .. I mean if you are considering being a witch then how can you call yourself a christian, because that goes AGAINST all that Christianity stands for ..
tasuki answered Thursday July 7 2005, 8:31 pm: 1) You don't even need to pray. Some people don't believe in it. Just do what's right for you.
2) Not really. I don't have an altar. I mean, my whole universe is pretty much dedicated to my deities.
3) Again, not really. A lot of people want to sell you "Wiccan" things. They're just capitalists. Don't trust them. You don't need a fancy athame, a regular old butter knife will do. You don't need a big leather Book of Shadows. You can get a five dollar journal at Barnes and Noble or an even cheaper spiral notebook at the grocery store.
Just as long as you believe in it, you don't need trendy witch stuff. You should atleast get incense though. It's very cheap. [ tasuki's advice column | Ask tasuki A Question ]
Irishdude405 answered Tuesday July 5 2005, 8:33 pm: listen Being a witch is just a seperation from God. you'll find that being a witch or wanting to be a witch will bring you farther apart from the lord, friends, family, even life itself. the only thing it will bring you closer to is The Devil. And thats a life that no one should have. now i really think you should consider what you want to do and the life-long permanent effects of what it can do to you and the people around you. always here to talk
CAPTAINKJ618 answered Sunday July 3 2005, 3:51 pm: Ok...i hate to tell you but worship satan is just going to bring you grief... satan is what is trying to get you into witchcraft...doesnt witchcraft seem a little wierd???i dont know alot about it but God loves you....and if you were a christian in the first place you wouldnt turn to satan....
How bout you pray to the real god instead.....before turning to witchcraft [ CAPTAINKJ618's advice column | Ask CAPTAINKJ618 A Question ]
SecretWhispers answered Thursday June 30 2005, 11:24 pm: First off, I completely agree with what kylie wrote. Second off, I appreciate that the previous commentors try to give you advice (With the exception of Kylie) but they are just playing inconsiderate Jokes.. I try not to be rude, but the people that are in essence not taking you and your decision seriously, should not have posted anyway. Now, I want to let you know that when you decide that you want to become a solitary witch, that has nothing to do with being a christian. Obviously you are having some issues with your relationship with God. You cannot push him aside like that! God has created you for a reason, and he does not want you pushing him away because you are doubting him. I suggest taking your time to read the scripture, talking it over with a devout christian, or even praying to him! He loves you and he doesn't want you to leave his side like that. Let us say that you are on one side of a river, and God is on the other side, and the only thing connecting you to him is a bridge, AKA your faith. If you start doubting him, that bridge will crumble, and you *WILL* not EVER EVER -Could- lose your chance of living with him in heaven. And you don't want to do that do you? I suggest you think this over, and if you ever want to speak further, do NOT hesitate to email me!

Kylie answered Thursday June 30 2005, 4:50 pm: Please forgive those ignorant people! They just think they are funny! I'll do my best to give you my advice. I have a few questions for you first of all. You were obviously doubting God correct? Because if you had full understanding and trust in Him you would not want to become a witch. Secondly, becoming a witch is a very dark and evil thing to do. I don't mean evil like you are a terrible person, I mean evil like, of the world. And why would you want to be part of the world? This is not our home as Christians. God sent us here for ONE reason and ONE reason only. To further His kingdom. Is what you're doing helping in that? God has a huge plan for you. It would be such a shame to see you never live out your potential as a Christian. Do you realize that becoming a witch would be turning your back on God and going to Satan? You may not think so, but ANYTHING that keeps you from growing in your spiritual walk with God is sin...and guess what all sin is? evil. God loves you. He desires a relationship with you. In the bible it says that if you know the truth but don't speak or live the truth, is worse than NOT knowing the truth and being evil. God judges those who know the truth hardest. If you were a Christian ( and I say were because if you want to become a witch than you certaintly are not walking in the Light) why would you turn your back on God. You know there is a Heaven and a Hell correct? Imagine you do become a witch. Now, compare your life as a witch and as a Christian. Where are each of these lives leading you in the future. I've walked on both sides before. I don't know if you grew up in a Christian home and have never really experienced the darkness away from God, but i have. It is not worth it. I will never go back to the other side, but i will continue to walk in light and try to help others. Please reconsider. Not for me, not for your friends or your family, but for God and you! I will be praying for you and if you EVER need anyone to talk to you can shoot me an e-mail!
With love,
Kylie [ Kylie's advice column | Ask Kylie A Question ]

Razhie answered Wednesday June 29 2005, 1:11 pm: Sometimes people's advice just disgust me. If someone asked this question about Christianty or Buddhism you might get a few serious answers but because the question is about a pagan religion you make ignorant jokes.
It's a very serious decision if you raised in one religion to begin to practice another and something you shouldn't take lightly. It is definately not something you should do without talking to other practicing solitary wiccans. There is a community aspect to all religions even those that are called solitary. Find local groups, appraoch them with respect and learn! DO NOT CALL YOUR SELF A WICTH JUST CAUSE YOU READ SOME BLOODY BOOK. You devalue the religion and yourself if you do that.
