DangerNerd answered Sunday June 12 2005, 6:24 am: Hello there,
The only way to be sure is to read the packaging for the stick.
A lot of the ones you use when you go camping and such, can be quite toxic depending on colors and the length of time they are designed to function.
Many of them contain phosphorus in concentrations that could very easily permanently scar you.
I have no idea why you cracked this thing in your mouth, but in the future please use your hand.
Julie174 answered Saturday June 11 2005, 6:21 pm: If it was a mouth glowstick, of course it's not toxic!! If it was a hand-glowstick then it might of been toxic but not to kill you. Especially if you rinsed your mouth out. Glowsticks have a chemical in them that make some people's skin/tounge ect. burn but its nothing to worry about. hope i helped.
Cemetary..DrIvE answered Saturday June 11 2005, 2:18 pm: You don't have to worry-they're non-toxic. The only thing they will do is taste really bad (that's why it fealt like it was burning) and your tongue might glow a little. You rinsed and everthing, so you should be okay. *******EDIT*******
I just emailed you:
Okay, so I told you those little glow sticks are nontoxic, and I understand it DID burn.. so there obviously is chemical of SOME sort to make it glow. HOWEVER, *STUDIES* say these are nontoxic products. I looked online before I answered that, sincre I had a hunch, but didn't know FOR SURE whether they were nontoxic or not, and I came up with these:
"Witness the humble glowstick. This neon yellow tube of light, testament to the wonders of the nontoxic chemical reaction, is popular at Britney Spears concerts, Mardi Gras parades and summer street fairs.", taken from: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
"Glow Sticks, Glow Necklaces, Magnetic Flashing Body Lights are perfect for any occasion. All of our light sticks are non toxic, non flammable, and non corrosive.", taken from: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
If you're STILL unsure, read the box - it will DEFINITELY tell you. And if you no longer HAVE the box, check online for that CERTAIN brand.
Hopefully this brings you some reassurance.
