Hello there,
The time limits vary by citation, department, city ordinance, or state law.
What I have seen, having put in many misdemeanor criminal reports myself, are 7, 14 and 30 days.
The absolute best thing you can do for yourself right now, is to get the case number (citation number) and asked the department in question.
I know it is scary to get into contact with law enforcement when you are expecting to be hauled in, but ignorance in this case will hurt you more. It is way better to know all the facts than to ignore the situation, it probably will not go away on its own.
I hope it all works out for the best.
