Yes, I'm going into high school next year and yes, I am freaking nervous. I know it's not as exaggerated as the movies make it seems, what with the plastics and all, but I'm not quite sure what to expect. Somebody enlighten me?
RhetoricalLives answered Friday June 10 2005, 2:43 am: I just went into High Shool Yeah the Seniors are somewhat scary in the beginning, but just act like how your are. Impress no one but yourself :D The worst thing to do is try to be someone your not! And don't be afraid or anything, just watch out for people pulling tricks on you. Always lock your home door LoL! devil9221 answered Thursday June 9 2005, 9:37 pm: High school is just like elementry school but has taller people. Your high school is probably bigger than elementry. This year was my first year in high school too. It wasn't scary one bit. But I was a little nervous. So relax!
Hope I could help!

SicVaYne07 answered Thursday June 9 2005, 9:34 pm: Really depends if you a guy or a girl. Girls mostly like it because they make friends alot easier. And most of them find an upperclassmen. If your a guy... to be honest with you freshmen year isnt all that great. Its a huge change from middle school, work wise. And as far as friends and everything, normally you will keep the same friends you had in middle school and you'll just gain more, but as of your luck with the females... like i said most of them are lookin at the upperclass me. So make sure you treat the upcommming 8 grade girls nice ;-) [ SicVaYne07's advice column | Ask SicVaYne07 A Question ]
pinkfairy1773 answered Thursday June 9 2005, 5:51 pm: omg i totally get you... i always think about that too... i mean those movies like mean girls and stuff... they make high school seem so hard and well mean girls everywhere you turn. and you can't even confide in adults because they always say "you will love high school... thats the best time i ever had in school years" and goes on and on about their high school life...
well i am just about to start high school this august...and i was so scared that i even consider failing the 8th grade on purpose... but when you think about it... all of your friends will move on to high school except you so it wont be same.
and well here are some tips you can survive the high school.
first... do not hang alone...those people will pick on the person who is alone..
so try to be friendly and smile a lot..even if they dont smile back. and have at least 2 friends in each class you can hang out with ... and sit by... you need 2 because just in case 1 is absent right?
same with lunch...doesnt matter if you sit with cool kids just have fun hanging out with your friend... and need more than 1 just in case...
and trust me...all that popular talk... its boring... ists all about i like this blah blah yea louis voutton purse blah blah prada bag blah blah...
not that i've been one of those people... but ive read so much book about high school teens...
and one thing i was worried about was drugs and smoking and alchohols...
you have 2 choice...
1. drink and get high so you look "cool"
2. say no and get rep as loser
i know its hard to pick either one...
( if you must hang out with the cool ones do this)
here is trick...drinking just get a can of beer and say i gotta go to the bathroom and bring the beer with you because they wont even care if you bring it because they will be already drunk and wont care what you do...and when you are bathroom dump it out in the toilet and flush...
but not all of it... just leave like a gulp...
but that only lasts one time in few hours...because it will seem unnatural if you go to bathroom all the time..
and if they offer you more say you got some left and shake your can...
and pretened you are drinking...
i know its bad to do that and all but that was just example just in case that actually happens...
and for smoking...
dont know yet so if that happens to you let me know so i can do some major thinking
and well if you got friends and if you are not a major loser ... i dont think you are...then dont worry about it...
i thougt going to high school will be a drag but as you think about it more and more...its got to pass some day and it will ... if you enjoy the school activities...trust me i can't do any sports.well i dont know because i dont even bother to try at all ...but every one is good at something...
and think this... i am suffering with you...
so let me know if you need some more advice...
and oh yea.. if you happen to be those "uncool"type like dont know what to talk about or what to wear you can email me because i had lots of those projects done... i made over this one kid who was called "paste eater" into fairly decent kid ...
so let me know how it went...
and oh yea forgot this...
if you have people who are bothering you like seniors or something... just ignore them or... here is what i do... its perfectly legal and scare the crap out of them...
say ... oh sure you lay hand on me and hit me all you want... it wont bother me when i get all of your life saving for pressing charges against you for using violence...
well i dont know about all the laws but i think person can even go to qaurt for the stuff like that
so dont use violence back... use threats...
they work more...
and oh i am sorry if i am teaching you the all the wrong things...
well high school cant be that bad right???
i mean i have friends who is 1 year older than me so they have already been through it and when i see them they seem happy and you will have fun too making new friends and romances with your someone special and trust me i 've gone through more bad stuff from backstabbing friend who say bad stuff behind my back but it turned out to be ok because popular kids hates her too and they know now i am now friend with her (she was my best friend and back stabbed me) and its all good even though people pick on me some times but those are just weirdos... who are racist...( i am asian)
and well i thought 8 th grade would be a drag but now i dont regret going to school at all ,,,
i made new best friend
and i ve made more guy friend (sadly no bf)
and the popular kids like me
they are always nice to me...
its not like them for to include me on purpose but dont say anything bad and smiles at me and say hi and stuff...
Mackenzie answered Thursday June 9 2005, 7:53 am: You've pRobably heaRd a ton of RumoRs about all the teRRible things uppeR classmen do to "fReshmeat" [fReshmen], and you would *THINK* high school would be like that, but believe it oR not.. high school kids aRe veRy accepting of diffeRences!! And theRe honestly isn't much teasing going on. CeRtainly NOTHING compaRed to the teasing that goes on in Middle School. You see, high school, to be honest, IS HARD!! And it's haRd foR EVERYONE, so EVERYONE KNOWS THIS. And since they DO, they definitely won't waste theiR time tRying to make it HARDER FOR YOU, when they wouldn't want it HARDER ON THEM, you see?? It's honestly not a big deal!! Give it a week oR so, and you'll know the way to youR classes NO pRoblem!! The haRdest paRt would be GETTING TO THEM in time!! Most high schools give you a five minute passing peRiod, sometimes less, sometimes moRe.. it vaRies fRom school to school.. but even then.. five minutes is neveR enough time.. so you gotta Run youR butt!! As foR making fRiends... I know this seems typical, but just be fRiendly. Speak out in class - this is a GREAT way to get noticed. Say hello to fellow classmates if you see them in the hallway. Join some clubs also.. that's a good way to meet people; then Right off the bat you know you have something in common with them. And always smile.. smiles definitely get noticed! And wheneveR you see someone sitting alone at lunch oR in the moRning befoRe school, just walk Right up to them and be like, "Hey! How's it goin'?", oR if you have them in a class just say.. "Hey! ARen't you in my [whateveR class]" I know it seems difficult, but you just have to Roll with the punches. Be bold and talkative. High School is Really NO big deal, tRust me.. you'll do just fine!! And in case you weRe wondeRing about PE: not *ALL* schools make you showeR; it vaRies. PeRsonally, the G.U.Y.S in my school HAD to showeR. If they neglected to showeR 3 times peR ONE semesteR... they failed the class automatically. HoweveR, the G.I.R.L.S *DID NOT* have to showeR. They could showeR if they wanted to, but they DID NOT have to!! I think it's because the giRls have that time of the month when it's veRy embaRRassing to showeR aRound otheRs, and boys don't.. if you get my dRift theRe. If you'Re still feeling afRaid, just ask anyone who goes/went theRe. They should be able to ReassuRe you moRe than I can. Just make shoRe to make the most out of youR high school yeaRs... you'll find that they come and go VERY quickly!! Goodluck; hope I helped!! I hope things woRk out! OrangeChikn answered Wednesday June 8 2005, 12:18 pm: Don't worry, first off. You will be able to find your classes, and all the teachers cut a little slack on the first few days. Nothing about it is bad. Infact, it's great! [ OrangeChikn's advice column | Ask OrangeChikn A Question ]
calamityz answered Wednesday June 8 2005, 12:35 am: First of all, high school is _not_ a movie (you actually have home work in real life). Cliques and divisions exist, but not to the same extent as in middle school. Smaller schools will probably have more cliques but in general many of the kids will be new to the school (and even kids who have friends going to the school may not be in the same classes). The first few months are when most people find out where they "fit in," but for you that may be two or three different groups. You will probably meet people in your classes, and they will probably be as nervous as you are, so smiling and saying hello will never be a bad thing. Don't feel too comitted to the first person who says hi, you'll find friends fast because everyone is looking. Good luck in high school! Rember to (smile and) Relax! mn731 answered Wednesday June 8 2005, 12:05 am: It's not scary at all..I was a freshman but now, I'm going to be a sophomore..High school is a bigger school with alot more people. It's nothing to be scared of...The teachers just expect alot more out of you than middle school so you have to work harder. It's basically the same..Don't worry about it..just hang out and have fun with your friends because your high school days are the most memorable. <3 [ mn731's advice column | Ask mn731 A Question ]

RELAX!! everything will be fine! people make it seem like high school is a big hell hole! but it's not.. One piece of advice i will give you that i wished someone told me from the very begining.. It's One Big Competition!!!
icey0990 answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 11:38 pm: High school is usually bigger than the middle school...depending on your school..it might be huuuge or just a little bigger than the middle school. you can expect to meet new people..start to make friends with people from different grades, especially if you play sports..expect some peer pressure...although that was around in middle school..expect more homework and you need to study more..expect the seniors to not like you at all (thats the way it is in my school..maybe your school is friendlier)...expect people to change..i've noticed in high school some of the people you would never expect..will tell you (or you will see) that they smoke, do drugs, etc. [ icey0990's advice column | Ask icey0990 A Question ]

Shortie8959 answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 11:32 pm: Ok, well I'm a junior right now, and I can tell you that high school is definitely better than middle school. You have so much more freedom. But the work is harder and you get more homework, meaning lots more responsibility. There's more guys though. ;) Lol. It seems big, but you'll be fine after a week. If they don't give you one, ask for a map of the high school, because that helps a lot. Don't worry, it's not like Mean Girls. Good luck! Hope I helped!
