I think that people should be allowed to smoke in some public places. If you're outside then people who don't like it can go somewhere else. In places like restaurants it's a little different. I personally hate people smoking near me when I'm eating. I'm a non smoker (i quit) if it interests you.

You should probably mention France somewhere in your paper. In France smoking is banned in restaurants and nobody cares. They even give you ashtrays in most restaurants.

Personally i think that smoking should be kept to your own home or if someone says that you can in their home a smoking and non-smoking section is not going to help thats like a peeing section in a pool the smoke j/ gets into the non-smoking section eanyways i live in ohio and we have something called Stand its against smoking and all that if you need info go to www.standonline.org sorry if i wasn't good enough

I don't think that people should be allowed to smoke in public places. I have this view because ... well, not to offend anyone, but I don't like the smell of people smoking. Second hand smoke kills twice as many people than cigarettes do. Some people have very sensitive lungs or are succeptable to cancer, and being around people who smoke in public places is dangerous. Sure, there might be a few places or resturants that specifically said, "You can smoke here", but that smoking should be done outside. Once I had to eat dinner with a woman who smoked - constantly. She was a chain smoker, and I couldn't stop coughing. I think it was very rude on her part to continually smoke in my face. We were in a resturant at a two person table, and I'm pretty sure she thought it was rude that I kept coughing, but I couldn't help it. I had an extremely sore throat for the next few days from breathing that smoke. My food didn't taste very good because of the smoke, and it damaged my tastebuds. Not very cool. At amusement parks I think that there should be roped off sections just for smoking because there are people who are so addicted to the things that they can't go without a cigarette. Smoking freely in an amusement park would ruin it for people like myself who absolutely cannot stand it. (and there are alot of people like me) Smoking in bars? This is where I tune out. Smoking in bars does not affect me because I don't go to bars. But, my opinion remains the same - roped off section outside for smoking. As for resturants, once again, roped off section outside or not at all. I hate going into a resturant and be greated by the lovely smell of smoke. Don't you? Gag me. That's so sick.

I think that should answer your question. Very interesting topic. :)

I think it should be banned. The same chemicals go into your bodys if you are near a smoker, than they do with the actual smoker. Also kids dont want to be breathing in this stuff. It can lead to cancers, bad breath ,yellow/brown stains on teeth and fingers, and wrinkles. But i only think it should be banned in retraunts and some parts of the amusment parks. Bars could be aloud because childen usually dont go in bars.
please rate!!

it should be banned. We might as well all be smokers if smoking in public was aloud. Some of us have enough sense to stay away from bad habits like that and it's not fair that we have nasty ciggarette smoke blowing in our direction.

Figured I’d help you out considering I had to write a similar essay last year. It’s still on my computer so I’ll throw in a few points that I used. (The paragraph with the * symbol beside it is taken directly from the American lung association, so if you use it, make sure you put it into your own words.)

I believe smoking in public places should be banned. Not only is smoking a bad habit but it's hazardous to a person’s health. The simple fact is that smokers are affecting their own health as well as those who do not smoke. Thousand’s of people die each year just because they have breathed other people’s smoke and it’s slowly becoming an issue that needs to addressed.

The truth of the matter is: second hand smoke kills people. A lot of business owners still allow people to smoke in their businesses. I find it hard to believe that public smoking hasn’t been banned everywhere considering most Americans do not smoke. It makes no sense to be supporting the minority and to be putting the majority at risk.

*Cigarette smoke lingers in the air hours after the cigarette is put out which leads to it being involuntarily inhaled by non-smokers. Second-hand smoke affects people’s health drastically and causes a variety of health defects such as cancer, respiratory infections and asthma. Second-hand smoke causes approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths and 35,000 heart disease deaths in adult non-smokers in the United States each year. If that isn’t bad enough, it is especially harmful to young children. Second-hand smoke is responsible for between 150,000 and 300,000 lower respiratory tract infections in infants and children under 18 months of age which results in between 7,500 and 15,000 hospitalizations each year, and causes 1,900 to 2,700 sudden infant death syndrome deaths in the United States annually. And yet, smoking in public places is still legal in most places.

I don’t believe businesses such as restaurants or bars are at as much of a risk as they make themselves out to be. They claim the smoking ban will result in their company loosing the majority of their customers and profits. The thing is, only 23 percent of Americans smoke, so really, less than a quarter of a business’ customers are smokers.

I don’t even think the matter should be disputed. If people want to smoke, then let them, but outside and away from the building.

Wow, this pretty long. I hope it helped though!
Good Luck!

i dont like smoke/ smoking i find it gross. but i think the public places should decide if smoking should be banned, its their decision. i dont think they should banned it from everywhere because if people dont like smoking in public places then dont go there, its as simple as that, but when people who own the place say there is no smoking then there is no smoking, and people who dont follow that 'rule' should be banned or something because its like not giving respect to the people who built it

azngemini answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 8:26 pm:
i think it should be banned because I hate cigarretes. I always get really annoyed when I'm walking down the street, and there's a person in front of me they're just smoking and I have to smell the smoke because I'm behind them. public smoking is really bad because they're polluting the already polluted air, they're hurting others with second hand smoking, and they're also hurting themselves. if they wanna smoke, they should go to a bar with other smokers.

hey i'm 14/f. smiking is just the same as usling drugs, only its legal. it is the uprising epidemic and it will be almost impossible to smuther. personally i LOVE the smell of secondhand smoke. absolutly love it. There should be bars that accomidate smokers and smoke free bars and same with resterants. otherwise, it is impossible to stop people from smoking in public places.

Where I live (Winnipeg, MB, Canada) it's banned almost everywhere indoors. I think it's bad because people die from it when they're not even the ones smoking. But I still think people should be able to smoke, just not in public places where the people there DONT WANNA DIE!! haha

Hope I helped =)

Personally, I could care less. People should have the right to be away from it if they want to be. But I love the smell of a smoke ridden bar on a friday night. The whole hazy atmosphere is lovely.

However, Like I said before, because of the health problems, people shouldn't have to be exposed to that if they don't want to be.

I think it should be banned because second hand smoke is not filtered and it is much more dangerous for people who don't even choose to be unhealthy by smoking.

i personally would ban smoking in public because of second hand smoke and the fact that its bad for everyones health

if your looking at it from the economy's point of view, then public smoking is okay. because, if it was banned then the smokers would not spend their money in certain stores, etc.
*they are thinking of doing this in austin and this is some of what i have heard (i live in austin)

hope i helped- :)
