mackiemore answered Thursday June 9 2005, 8:13 pm: Dachsaunds are not mean, but very energetic and occasionally snappy. You will need to train it to be kind as a puppy, and give it plenty of exercise. [ mackiemore's advice column | Ask mackiemore A Question ]

neonxspork answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 4:28 pm: A dogs behavior usually depends on how it is raised and its environment. Any breed of dog can be a good dog if it is trained properly. Although some breeds of dogs are nicer then others most dogs can adjust to being nice. I suggest looking up more on the breed by either googling it or going to your library!
xXxpinky615xXx answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 12:18 pm: A dog is only mean depending on how it was treated when it was a baby. If it was treated poorly, then yes when it beecomes full grown it can be tempermental. Doxens as far as I know are very good dogs, high strung, but good dogs. My neighboor has a doxen and he is a very good dog. So I really don't think you have anything to worry about. [ xXxpinky615xXx's advice column | Ask xXxpinky615xXx A Question ]
selectopaque answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 11:35 am: Many dogs do have pre-set personality traits that coem from hundreds of years of breeding and inbreeding (full bred dogs are basically all inbred dogs)
Anyway, one trait that can come from a dachshund is aggression to strangers and other dogs.
This does not mean that every dachshund will become aggressive. This only means that you will need to begin socializing your puppy now. By showing her other dogs and tons of strangers early on, you will help her to become tolerant of other living things without flipping out.
I used to own a Rottweiler, they are supposedly aggressive to strangers, but my rotty was the nicest dog anyone had every met. But, my roommates own a Shiba Inu, which is a cute little 20 pound dog. He happens to be the meanest dog anyone has ever met.
I have also never met a Pit Bull that was mean to humans, and only two that were mean to other dogs. But Pit Bulls continuously get bad reputations because mean people breed them and raise them to be aggressive.
So, basically, your cute little dachshund is more likely to become aggressive than, say, a golden retriever, but that does not mean that she will automatically be aggressive. With the proper training and socialization, even the meanest dog breed can become the sweetest ever. [ selectopaque's advice column | Ask selectopaque A Question ]
Vexxia answered Tuesday June 7 2005, 2:29 am: I have a mini-dachshund named Guido. I've had him for 3 years-since he was a pup, he's the greatest thing ever. I took him to my highschool a lot, so he loves people. I would say that is what made him sociable- instead of being protective. Take him out- to dog parks and such, family functions, as many people as possible and he won't get mean at all. [ Vexxia's advice column | Ask Vexxia A Question ]
kooka-burra answered Monday June 6 2005, 11:06 pm: it really all depends on how the owner raises the dog. If she wants to know a good 'kit' to raise her puppy try the Urban Puppy Kit.
it's a step by step puppy training kit. the author had to put her dog down because it was violent so she made a puppy kit so that dogs wouldn't grow up like hers. I think for your kind of dog that might be violent it would be a good choice.
