How can I make him quit?
I found a pipe and a lighter in my brother's draw. I was furious because I'm am strongly against smoking. He's in college...I understand he's old enough to make his own descisions, but he has a lot going for him and I don't want him to screw up his future....What are the possibilities of what he was smoking? Like weed..tobacco?And, is there a site that has the bad effects of it, or if you guys can list some that will convince him to stop, I would appreciate it!

OK well you could sit down and talk to him (if he still lives with you) and if he doesnt call him and ask him if you could go out or hang out one day and talk to him about it say something like "...i found something in your room and i was wondering why your doing this...? and i know your old enough to make you own descisions but you know (if he does) that im strongly aganisst this i really care about you and love you i just dont want to see my brother do something that he will regret his whole life.." hope i helped xoxo shann

Weed it kills brain cells i wasn't mad when i found out my friends did it infact i did it.Then i leaned myself that i was dumb and i could screw up my life.Tell him he might not see it know but some day he'll thank you and he'll relize how dumb it was .

dont worry i have two sisters and a brother who do that too.I try to tell them to stop too but they wont they think they are just too cool.my sister cut down because i beat her up and chased her around the house (lol)

Don't jump to conclusions so quickly. Even it it was him, then just hope that it was a one-time thing. There is really no speach to give him. I went through this problem, but I was the one smoking. The only thing that helped me stop was knowing that Jesus Christ was watching every step that I took and I knew He wouldn't approve. That really helped me and my friends all helped me to stop. Try talking to him, but don't let him know that you are mad about it.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly. For all you know this pipe and lighter could belong to one of your brother's friends and they might have left it behind with-out your brother ever knowing. But most likely he could be smoking. I would let the cards sit on the table for a while. Watch him, see how he acts if he is acting differently and you think it might be because he is high i would start to look things up on the web. They have the best kind of ways to deal with this kind of stuff. If you ca't find anything that might apeal to your brother than the best thing to do would find him in his room at a calm time and talk to him, tell him that you've found the pipe in him room and would like to know what is going on. That might be steph 2 or three. Maybe you want to drop hints and make him come out and say it first, when that doesn't work then maybe you want to talk to him about smoking, say that your worried about one of your friends then result to the point were you talk to him about finding a pipe in his room. If none of these work come back to me. I'll be thinking about more ways to help.

Unfortunately as you've pointed out yourself he's in college and is unlikely to listen because you're younger. He could just be smoking tobacco which is obviously dangerous mainly because of cancer of the lung, mouth etc and negative details of tobacco smoking can be found at [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

These sites are enough to stop anyone from starting smoking but the problem is that he's already doing it. First of all it might be a good idea to find out exactly what he's smoking. Just be honest and say what you found and ask what he uses the pipe for. See what he says and say you've done a bit of research on the negative effects and you're worried about him. He may take no notice but short of doing something like telling your parents you're concerned about him you might just have to wait for him to get over this phase in his life. Hopefully a phase is all it is! If he takes no notice maybe print out info from the internet and leave it next to his pipe that might send the message home! Good luck

It's probably pot, which is agains the law. And is a felony. And if he gets caught and arrested, he could lose his financial aid. I don't know if your parents are paying for college or if he has applied for financial aid. If he is on financial aid, the government will not give him any more aid if he gets arrested for possession of marijuana. You can do research on the internet and find lots of information smoking pot and the real problems that can happen from smoking it. Health wise and everything.

To tell what he was smoking, smell the pipe. Pipe tobacco usually has a woody, wholesome aroma. Pot has a very distinct smell that I can't really describe. If it was hidden, I would think it might be pot, unless your family is very anti-smoking, then it could be either. Also, a pipe for weed is usually small and narrow, with a metal bowl. A pipe for tobacco usually has a large bowl, and is normally made of wood.
If you talk to your brother a lot, let him know how you feel, and how much you want him to quit.
