Question Posted Tuesday April 19 2005, 1:40 pm

I burnt my finger on the cooker around half an hour ago, ran it under the cold water tap until it stopped hurting and forgot about it. But it's just started to hurt really badly again. I put a cold compress on it and put some antiseptic cream on but it doesn't seem to be stopping the stinging. What can I do?

I'm only answering cuz it seems like the vast majority of people are telling you to put ice on the burn. Do NOT put ice on a burn. If you've actually damaged your finger with the burn, you won't be able to tell when the ice starts to do more damage. You'll have both a burn, and frostbite.

Also, don't put oils of any sort on a burn. No lotion, no Vaseline. Aloe Vera gel is water based (since it comes from a plant) and is quite good at helping burns heal up.

Cold water was the right thing to do.

Look at the your finger. Is the skin intact or has it blistered or broken? If it's still intact, keep the finger away from extreme heat and cold for a few days till the redness goes away and it feels better. If the skin has blistered or broken, clean it with cold water, apply antiseptic cream, and put a band-aid over it. Do not pop a blister. If the skin has broken enough that you can see something other than skin when you look at the finger, go to the doctor.

It's going to hurt for possibly as much at two days whenever you don't have ice on it. What's happened is that the nerve has been partially damaged so that until it starts to heal it doesn't know to stop feeling pain.

For comfort you could keep icing it to keep it numb, but make sure to take the ice off sometimes to ensure it gets proper blood flow.

Otherwise, this would be a great time to increase your pain tolerance by trying to block out the pain. You'd be amazed how much you can do if you keep calm, focus on breathing, and try to ignore the throbbing.

If i were you i would Get a cold pack and just leave it on there until it gets to cold remove your finger then put it back in the ice pack, the stinging wont go away for a couple days. I would recamend telling one of your parents, it might be a bad burn.

Lovely.

You can't really do anything about it but put lemon on it. At 1st it stings a lot but it doesnt look or feel as bad later.

Ouchers! that really hurts. I did that a while ago and burnt myself on a pan, you had a good idea about running it under cold water.... now all you need to do is get a cup of water and put a few ice cubes in it and just keep your finger in it. (it really works) Whatever you do, don't put an ice pack on it tho. Keep your finger in it for about 1/2 hour to an hour...depending on how bad it is. After that, put some aloe vera on it and it will make it feel all better. Hope i helped! you can ask me anything anytime... please rate!

Don't think about it, it will hurt less if you focus your attention on something else. Try putting aloe vera cream stuff on it. That should ease the burning a little bit. Or, apply pressure under where you are burnt. Hope I've helped.

This happened to me a few days ago. Do you have any aloe lotion or gel around your house? Aloe helps burns best. If you have an aloe plant you can break it and put aloe on the burnt that way. Eventually the stinging will go away.

Well I have burnt my finger before and you should just try to ignore it. Maybe watch some tv and try to forget it. And by the time you remember it, the stinging will stop. ok bye. Hope it gets better.
