That's ok, I'll make lamb! Well, I have in issue with becoming a vegetarian. I really want to, but my family is Greek and they just don't understand why I won't eat perfectly good meat, and if I don't eat it they think I have an eating disorder. I really want to give it up because I love animals and it's a lot healthier, but I'm shy when it comes to telling my parents these things and I don't know if they'd understand. They'd probably make fun of me. What should I do?

Hey!
Okay so I became a veggie 2 years ago! I was 13 when I told my parents... All I said was that I think it's digusting, and cruel and Im not ABLE to eat it because it makes me so sad and feel terrible!! Tell them its your choice, and you will take full responsability... make sure to replace your missing protein with either protein shakes, tofu, atleast 10 almonds a day, drink milk, eat eggs and take a multivitamin!
Many of my friends wanted to become a veggie later on but their parents didnt let them... I think thats stupid! say its your choice. your life, and u can do what you want because they cant coontrol what you eat! it may sound blunt but its the truth... hope I helped lol ]
Just tell them how you feel. They wont make up for of you for what you believe in.
About the healthier part.. eliminating meat of your diet isn't all that healthy. I suggest if you do, start taking vitaims. =) ]
ahh my fellow greek. yes I know how it is to have a greek family. Want my advice, do it, be a vegetarian. There is nothing wrong with it and sure at first your mother is probably get a little angry but she is your mother and no matter how angry she is she will accept it. And remember hate plants not animals ]
Explain to your parents why you want to. For one, it's alot healthier...I also understand you're Greek..maybe you shoud go slowly into the vegeterian thing..start out giving up lamb..then maybe beef..then chicken, etc. I'll be hard at first but in the long run, you'll be more healthier and maybe even reduce your chances of heart diseases, cholesterol problems, and alot more. Your friends will have your back since they know what you will be going through. Explain to your parents and firmly tell them what you want to do. I know it's alot easier to read this than actually do it..but just try and things will eventually work out. Tell them your reasons, they will understand. Good luck! ]
tell them your opinion im sure they will value it and its not healthier to not eat meat ]
this is what some one i know did..
she has really stricked parents and she knew that they wouldn't let her do this.. so she made up a cook book using the veggie meat.. and other things to sub. in the meat. she also made up a food chart saying .. if i dont eat beef i have to eat so many of ___ to make up for all the stuff i missed.
and i wouldn't go totally veggie at once.. maybe give up meat.. then a cupple of months later give up fish.. then if you want to give up milk, eggs. and all that stuff.
but being a veggie is hard.. i have been one for a while. i am really low in iron and protein. so make sure you get pills to help you with that.
hope i helped ]
Well you could try going to the PETA web site. They may be able to send you some brochures that you could give to your parents. The ones on why it is healty to be a vegetarian would be good. In fact there is lots of info on the web about being a vegan. But the PETA brochures on how animals are slaughtered for our food, are really gross, you might not want to show them any of those. Also there are lots of good books on being a vegan. In fact why not go to the web site www.earthday.org and take the test called Ecological Foot Print. It tells you, based on your life style, including whether or not you eat meat, how much of the earths resources you use. It is very eye opening. AFter you take it, see if you can get your mom to take the quiz.
Keep trying, eventually you will be a yound adult and able to make your own decisions about what you eat. The more you learn the better.
Hope this helps.

Tell your parents how you feel. if they don't understand, tell them all of the reasons as to why you want to be a vegetarian. Before you talk to them make up a list of reasons as to why you want to be a vegetarian. Hope I helped and let me know how everything works out. ]
hmm thats pretty tough. I've been a vegtarian now for about 3 1/2 years and my parents accepted it very well (although we arent greek) But you shouldnt keep doing something just because you don't want people to think bad of you. sit them down and have a serious talk with them. tell them you don't want to eat meat anymore. be straight-forward with them. Let me know how it goes!

Just tell them how you feel. Or if that doesn't work tell them you don't like the taste or something like that. They shouldn't make fun of you because you care about animals.

Well, they are Greek so they wont understand it at first..but its better to tell them straight out and maybe get laughed at for a bit than to have them think you have an eating disorder. ]
