Er...? A baby pool? Whats the window of time you have before you have to swim? If its a month or so, go to a pool for swim lessons. They should have your age group, no matter what age you are and your ability. Now don't enroll yourself in toddler class. I have a small feeling you can swim better than that. :)

go into the pool and use floties for a while, once you get the hang of it take them off or use smaller ones that dont lift you as much, but remember to move your arms and legs to keep yourself afloat.
good luck!

There was just one thing that was taught to me and it worked like a miracle. Right before you go under water, take in a big breath. As soon as you go under water, keep your mouth shut and slowly blow the air out of your nose. Just push yourself through the water. Watch what other people do if you need to. Goggles made me much more comfortable at first.

Hey! I wanted to answer this question because I just learned how to learn last summer (and I'm not that good, but anyways...) and I thought you might like some hints or something, because I know that I probably would have been less scared of swimming if I had gotten this help when I was learning.

Ok. I got swimming lessons for about a week. I tried really hard learning how to swim for the first 2 or 3 days, but I could not get it...

When you're learning to swim, remember to make sure that you do it on the shallow end, because it's much easier to learn there. When I say shallow, I mean *shallow*-- the water should be at least 2 feet below your height. It should actually be near your waist level. This way, you'll feel safe. The water was very scary for me.
If you're afraid of getting it, you should still get right in it instead of slowly easing yourself in. Move around in the water for a while until you feel comfortable.
Put your head underwater for a little while (10 or 15 secs or so), for a few times. This way you won't panic or something when you are actually swimming and your head is underwater. You can try opening your eyes and looking around underwater.
Now get near a wall (or side) of the pool. Sit next to it (your knee and lower part of your legs are on the bottom of the pool). Make sure you are facing the other side of the pool, not the wall. Lol.
1. Then suddenly kick the wall using your feet.
2. Quickly stretch out your entire body.
3. Make sure your legs are straight and your arms are stretched straight out in front of you.
4. Lay one hand on top of the other.
5. Start kicking both of your feet straight up and down, one after the next, repeatedly.
6. Keep on kicking hard until you are on the other side of the shallow portion of the pool. (It should not be too far.)
Alright. Steps 1 to 5 should be done all at once.

Well I hope this works for you! Good luck. If it doesn't, I really really recommend that you take swimming lessons. They work. =)

Oh yea... by the way, this type of swimming is not very advanced, but it's the only kind I know how to do pretty good. If you take lessons, your instructor should teach you many other types in addition to this one.

Anyways, I finally got over my fear of water after my 3rd day of swimming lessons. After that, swimming actually became fun.

i learned to swim by watching other people but ive heard of people being thrown in and learning how to swim...you could have someone throw you in or just jump in but always have someone around that is a good swimmer...or you could always go to a local pool and take lessons...good luck!! =]

being a county swimmer myself i have been swimming years, unfortunatly there are no quick ways of learning how to do something such as swimming, for perfection it may take around 10years.
to learn the first few quick and easy steps why not join your local club.
I find my 8 training sessions a week are quite enjoyable as it can be more of a social event than hard work.
so my advice to you is to join a local club, and make new friends 9or even take some with you)
